Rep. Gene Green Named Chairman of Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee

Washington, DC – Rep. John D. Dingell (D-MI), the Chairman of the Committee on Energy and Commerce, announced today that Rep. Gene Green (D-TX) has been approved by the Democratic Caucus to serve as the Chairman of the Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee. Dingell praised Green’s selection as Chairman of the Subcommittee.

“Gene Green will be an outstanding Chairman of the Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee,” said Dingell. “He has long been a valued Member of the Committee and a strong defender of the public health and the taxpayer’s dollar on a broad range of issues under the Committee’s jurisdiction. It will be a privilege to work with him in his new capacity and I congratulate him on his new chairmanship.”

“We have some important issues to consider, and we look forward to rolling up our sleeves and getting a lot of substantive work done,” Green said. “We'll be working on quality of life issues that affect millions of families across the country.”

In June, by unanimous consent, the Democratic Members of the Committee on Energy and Commerce selected Rep. Green to serve as Chairman of the Environment and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee for the remainder of the 110th Congress. Green’s Chairmanship was approved by the Steering and Policy Committee last week. The Chairmanship was vacated when Rep. Al Wynn (D-MD) retired from Congress.
