There's still time to file a return

If you haven't filed a tax return yet, you have until October 15th to file in order to receive the economic stimulus.

The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 provides for tax relief payments to be made to more than 130 million American households with qualifying income of $3,000 or more. The payments will be made starting in May 2008. To receive a payment you have to file a 2007 tax return.

There are certain categories of people who may be eligible for the stimulus payment -- such as seniors and disabled veterans -- who may not otherwise file an income tax return but need to do so this year to receive their stimulus payment. Filing a tax return when you do not owe any taxes will not change your tax status and will not affect your Social Security or VA benefits.
