Medicaid

Medicaid is a vital source of health coverage for millions of children and families, and acts as our nation’s healthcare safety net, providing coverage to more than 50 million individuals nationwide, about half of whom are children. Almost 5 million New Yorkers are covered by the Medicaid program. I believe that thoughtful reforms to the Medicaid program are necessary, but I am deeply concerned about the Medicaid cuts that have been proposed by President Bush.  Arbitrary cuts to this program will limit access to quality care for millions of low-income Americans, and I will work to ensure that the Medicaid system remains a reliable source of health care coverage for our low-income working families and children.
