Who is involved in the Plan?

The Plan is the community’s plan. It is driven by public input at every step, and it is championed by community leaders and elected officials. With Denton citizens and government representatives guiding the process, the Plan will be managed and produced by creative planning professionals, including the City of Denton Planning Department and a team of planning consultants with expertise in specialized components of comprehensive planning. The roles and responsibilities of those involved in the Plan development include:

  • Denton Citizens

    • Responsibilities
      • Participate through public events, website, community surveys, and other means
      • Share ideas for Denton’s future
      • Listen to/consider diverse viewpoints
      • Help define a vision for Denton
      • Provide feedback on planning products
      • Encourage others to participate
  • Denton City Council / Planning & Zoning Commission

    • Responsibilities
      • Review and provide direction at key decision points
      • Act as champions of the Planning Process
      • Endorse the Vision Statement
      • Endorse and adopt the Comprehensive Plan update
      • Ensure implementation through approval and/or funding of Plan initiatives
  • Denton Planning Department

    • Responsibilities
      • Administers Consultant contract / manages project
      • Coordinates activities of the Consultant
      • Assists with meeting logistics and administrative support
      • Assists in public outreach/communications
      • Reviews Consultant products
      • Distributes/publishes all products and reports
  • Other City Departments

    • Responsibilities
      • Provide information on citywide issues
      • Provide feedback on Consultant products
  • Community Stakeholders

    • Stakeholders include representatives from City and regional organizations and community groups, including major employers, institutions, state and county agencies, neighborhood associations, churches, community service providers, the development community, business organizations, etc.

      • Provides information on issues that impact key community interests
  • Planning Consultant Team

    • Responsibilities
      • Facilitate the planning process
      • Guide and implement the public engagement strategy
      • Prepare the Community Assessment and Data Book
      • Develop the Growth Concept Map
      • Guide creation of the Vision Statement, Alternative Scenarios, and Strategic Directions
      • Develop the Plan Elements, Implementation Strategy, and Plan Monitoring Process
