ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Police are crediting two Enfield men for rescuing a woman who jumped into the Connecticut River.
According to the Journal Inquirer, police Capt. Fred Hall received a call from 21-year-old Steve Pyrcz at about noon Thursday, reporting that the woman jumped into the river near a boat launch.
Pyrcz and 19-year-old Tom Meskell, who were on the shore, followed her as the current pulled her down river. They were helping her from the water when police arrived.
The unidentified woman was hospitalized although she suffered no apparent injury.
Hall said had Pyrcz and Meskell not followed the woman, the delay in finding her could have been life-threatening.
Pyrcz is an avid fisherman and often heads to the river to check the water level and current.
