Gun Buyback This Weekend In Hartford
(Hartford, Conn./CBS Connecticut) - This Saturday, those with local trauma centers and Hartford police are sponsoring the 6th annual Capital Region Gun Buyback.
As in the past, those turning in unwanted firearms will be eligible to receive gift cards.
Over the last five years, 800 firearms have been collected.
Hartford has sponsored local buybacks in the past; this is the largest such initiative covering multiple cities and towns.
Dr. Brendan Campbell, director of pediatric trauma at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, says there are three circumstances doctors see when it comes to youngsters and guns.
Those are accidental shootings, homicides, and suicides.
The gift cards are $200, $100, and $25, depending on the particular firearm turned in.
The buyback is at the Community Renewal Team offices from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Windsor Street in Hartford.
