Norwich VFW, Shut For Numerous Problems, Operating Quietly

NORWICH, Conn. (AP) — A Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Norwich that was shut over noise, fights and other problems has been operating quietly following new rules imposed by the national organization and state officials.

The bar now closes earlier, the music is not as loud as before and surveillance cameras monitor the area.

The Day of New London reports that complaints from neighbors have stopped and Norwich police making routine checks in the area have not seen problems.

The post reopened at the end of May after a four-month suspension due to problems that included an after-hours incident involving a handgun in the parking lot.

The state VFW listed numerous requirements for the post before it could reopen. One was the order that new leadership be installed, and most post officials are new.
