BURNET — While the Lakes Photo Club doesn’t meet again until Feb. 5, people interested in joining the organization or just benefitting from members’ feedback shouldn’t wait until the day of the meeting to get their photos in order.

The reason for the early start is the meeting’s topic.

“We’re going to share and talk about holiday and winter photos,” said Mike Childers, a founding member of the organization.

Club members plan to share up to five holiday and/or winter images during the meeting. Then, those who want to can listen in as other members provide feedback. Childers explained that the feedback helps people looking to improve their photography skills.

“There are people who want to go out and take snapshots and that’s it. They aren’t looking for anything else, and they’re happy with that,” he said. “That’s OK. But for others who are looking to become better, the club is a chance to do just that.”

With the February meeting’s theme revolving around the holidays and winter, now is the time for both members and non-members to go out and capture some of those photographs.

“And in this area, that can also mean the fall colors,” Childers said.

Some of the subjects for the holiday/winter theme include snow, Christmas lights, family gatherings or anything that has to do with those two concepts.

“They don’t have to be from around here,” Childers said. People traveling to other parts of the state, country or even the world, can snap some great shots.

The club feedback is geared toward helping people interested in improving their photographic skills. And the meetings are not limited to members. Childers encourages anybody interested in photography to attend.

But between now and Feb. 5, the best advice is to get out there and take photographs, which is one of the first steps in improving photographic skills.

The club typically meets the first Thursday of each month, but because of the holiday season, members opted to convene the next one in February. The club meets at 6 p.m. at the Falls on the Colorado Museum, 2001 S. Broadway in Marble Falls. Email Childers at chili865@gmail.com for more information.
