We connect with our key community stakeholders, such as landowners, municipalities, emergency service organizations and contractors, on an on-going basis through the Integrated Public Awareness (IPA) program supported by TransCanada’s wholly-owned or operated facilities and activities within both Canada and the United States.
The IPA is a coordinated approach to inform the public of the location of TransCanada facilities and activities.
Extensive consultation and community outreach activities have been conducted since the Gulf Coast Pipeline Project was originally announced.
TransCanada has a long history of assisting causes that benefit residents of the communities where we live and work. We want those investments to make a long-term difference to recipients. That’s why we champion causes that involve basic community issues.
In partnership with non-profit organizations, we strive to instill hope and foster positive change. We focus on three main areas: Wellness, safety and environment.
The Gulf Coast Pipeline Project is an approximate 485-mile (780-kilometre), 36-inch crude oil pipeline beginning in Cushing, Okla., and extending south to Nederland, Texas, to serve the Gulf Coast marketplace. The 48-mile (77-kilometre) Houston Lateral Project is an additional project under development to transport oil to refineries in the Houston area.
Construction on the Gulf Coast Pipeline commenced August, 2012, with an anticipated in-service date of late 2013. The Gulf Coast Project will have the initial capacity to transport 700,000 barrels of oil per day and can be expanded to transport 830,000 barrels of oil per day to Gulf Coast refineries.
