DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) – North Texas residents joined people across the country and participated in a second night of “This Stops Today” rallies, in response to the Eric Garner and Michael Brown grand jury decisions.

More than 100 people gathered near the Earl Cabell Federal Building in downtown Dallas. The rallying cry of the protesters was “I can’t breathe!”

Dozens of officers with the Dallas Police Department were on foot and bicycles, ready to move when the crowd started to march.

Speakers addressed the racially diverse crowd for nearly half an hour. One man reminded the crowd that police aren’t the only ones to blame for current situation — they said crime is also a problem.

Those addressing protesters also reminded everyone that they had come together for a peaceful protest. One man said, “I love my city. I don’t want to see anyone smash anything.”

The crowd began marching just after 9:00 p.m. and continues well after 10:30 p.m. The group marched from intersection to intersection and frequently stopped to lie down in the street.

Friday night, protestors had their own security officers — to act as a liaison with police and try to avoid arrests.
