About a month before Election Day, Republican candidate for lieutenant governor Dan Patrick has released his latest ad, in which he attacks his Democratic opponent Leticia Van de Putte and warns us that the terrorists are coming.
"While ISIS terrorists threaten to cross our border and kill Americans, my opponent falsely attacks me to hide her failed record on illegal immigration," he says in the 30-second video. Watch the full ad below.
According to the San Antonio Express News, the ad will run in the Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, Austin, Lubbock, Waco and Tyler media markets.
Van de Putte, who trails Patrick by double digits according to the latest Texas Lyceum poll, has released ads this election cycle as well, hitting Patrick on his education record.
"This ad is more reckless fear mongering from Dan Patrick and presents no real solutions for Texas," said Van de Putte's communications director Manny Garcia. "Securing the border is a priority for all Texans, which is why we need Leticia Van de Putte's sound solutions, not Dan Patrick's meaningless sound bites."
Political analysts predicted Patrick would tone down his Republican primary election-style rhetoric, especially when it came to immigration. Judging from this video, though, and some statements made during his one and only debate with Van de Putte in late September, he's not toning it down much.
