Jeans for any genes: Where to shop for denim in Dallas

Elements Clothing

Although better known for high-end clothing, Elements is also a go-to shop for comfortable, practical and on-trend jeans. Try a pair of J Brands, a favorite of fashion bloggers and writers. Or slip into some Bleulab Reversible Denim. As the name suggests, these are two pairs in one. Wear the basic indigo during the daytime and flip 'em around to the flashy leather-coated side for night.

The Blues Jean Bar

Although blue jeans were created for comfort and practicality, finding a comfortable pair of jeans can be tricky. Nobody knows your body like you do, but nobody knows jeans like the folks at the Blues Jean Bar. Go to the bar; specify your style, wash and size; then close your tab. The jean-specific store carries about 20 brands of women’s jeans, but we suggest trying local brand Hip Chixs, founded by a couple of Baylor grads who cater to women wanting the subtle sexiness of a pair of Texas blue jeans.

Nordstrom

There’s no better department store for quality denim at reasonable prices — and even better during half-yearly sales — than Nordstrom. The jean mecca has top picks for women of all shapes and most price points. So you’ve had a few Hopdoddy’s burgers, so what? Miraclebody Jeans by Miraclesuit, one of Oprah’s favorites, have a built-in panel to hide those food babies. Another must-have for even the curviest of bodies, CJ by Cookie Johnson jeans give a little extra in the thighs and rise a little higher in the back for full coverage and comfort.

Urban Outfitters

At $58 a pair and all the trendiest fits and washes, Urban Outfitters’ own BDG brand jeans are suited for the poor college student who still wants to look as much as her tuition costs. BDG jeans are softer and thicker than comparable jeans from other trendy chain retailers. UO also carries other brands, such as the classic Levi’s, but the BDG skinnies are style icon Lauren Conrad’s favorite inexpensive brand for wash and fit.

Scoop NYC

As the only Scoop NYC boutique location in Texas (or its neighboring states), the high-end shop earns its highly coveted real estate in swanky Highland Park Village with luxurious clothing and, ironically, the best jeans. Although new in the world of denim, MOTHER knows best for the most comfortable pairs. The starchy, stiff jeans of the past have been replaced with what is reportedly the softest jean brand available. Also try MiH, Made in Heaven, jeans, which are meant to make your legs appear longer and slimmer. Plus the back pockets are positioned perfectly to flatter your bum.

St. Bernard Sports

This store might be meant for the snow-sports shopper, but who says you can’t look great off the slopes? St. Bernard’s top-of-the-line ski coats are mixed in with designer tops and dresses as well as brand-name jeans. Some frontrunners are Citizens of Humanity and Paige Denim for those with long legs; AG Jeans appeal to the environmentally conscious. The store also carries Not Your Daughter’s Jeans for those who have daughters or even sons and would like some extra support from the brand’s own Lift Tuck Technology made famous on The Today Show.

REUSE Jeans

What’s old is new again. By no means hand-me-downs, REUSE Jeans are made from old denim scraps salvaged from textile waste. Each pair is 80 percent recycled but looks 100 percent new. The price for any women's pair, no matter the style or color, is a reasonable $95. If you are hesitant about spending money on used jeans, don't be. The denim is patchwork-free and looks more like those carried in department stores rather than consignment stores.
