12-3-14: Even without Julius Thomas and Aqib Talib, the Broncos went into Arrowhead Stadium
and defeated the Kansas City Chiefs, 29-16, on Sunday night. Denver scored the first 17
points of the contest, and although Peyton Manning and company could not get into the end zone in the final three quarters, Connor Barth was successful on all five of his field goal attempts.
11-26-14: The Broncos were trailing for most of Sunday’s game against the Miami Dolphins, but Peyton Manning led Denver to 22 points in the fourth quarter en route to the 39-36 victory. With Julius Thomas out due to an ankle injury, Demaryius Thomas caught 10 passes for 87 yards and three touchdowns. On Tuesday, the Broncos waived the struggling Brandon McManus and replaced him with ex-Buccaneers kicker Connor Barth.
11-19-14: Surprisingly, the Broncos were unable to keep up with the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, as St. Louis won, 22-7. After Denver was shut out for most of the first half, Manning completed a 42-yard touchdown to Emmanuel Sanders. Unfortunately, that was the Broncos’ only score of the game, as their list of injuries increased. Emmanuel Sanders later left the game with a concussion.
11-12-14: It was smooth sailing for the Broncos, who came into Sunday’s contest with a 1-2 record away from home on the season. The winless Oakland Raiders hosted Denver and stayed with the Broncos through almost two quarters, but Peyton Manning and company blew out the Raiders the rest of the way en route to the Broncos’ 41-17 victory.
10-30-14: The Broncos have not been able to be stopped since their bye week. They have won all four games by double-digit points, and with their 35-21 victory over the San Diego Chargers on Thursday night, the Broncos moved to 5-0 at home on the season. Peyton Manning and Emmanuel Sanders were connecting all night, as they accounted for all three of Denver’s passing touchdowns.
10-21-14: Peyton Manning and Demaryius Thomas continued to dominate opponents, as the Denver quarterback had a record-breaking night on Sunday. Manning, who threw for 318 yards and four touchdowns in the Broncos’ 42-17 win, passed Brett Favre as the passing touchdown leader in NFL history. The Broncos bring their three-game winning streak into Week 8, and they will be hosting the San Diego Chargers.
10-14-14: The Broncos played very well for the second straight week, as they defeated the New York Jets, 31-17, on Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Peyton Manning threw for three touchdowns, two of which were caught by Julius Thomas and the other by Demaryius Thomas. The tight end and wide receiver also combined for 14 receptions in the contest.
10-8-14: The Broncos decided to release Matt Prater and save some money by sticking with Brandon McManus at the kicking position. McManus was busy on Sunday as he scored 11 of his team’s points in the Broncos’ 41-20 victory over the Arizona Cardinals. In that contest, Peyton Manning became the second quarterback in NFL history with 500 career touchdown passes.
10-1-14: The Broncos were the only team from the AFC West that was on bye for Week 4. They are coming off their first loss of the season, which was in overtime in Seattle. Denver faces another NFC West foe this Sunday. Carson Palmer expects to be back for the undefeated Arizona Cardinals, who are also coming off their bye week.
9-25-14: The Broncos fell behind early, which put them in a difficult position in Seattle. Peyton Manning led them all the way back to tie the game and force overtime, but the Seahawks emerged victorious after scoring on the first possession of overtime. The Broncos still have yet to win an overtime game with Manning under center.
9-17-14: The Kansas City Chiefs traveled to Denver and put a scare into the Broncos, but their comeback fell short as Peyton Manning continued his success against the divisional foe. His 242 yards and three touchdowns led the Broncos to victory. The league could soon agree on a new drug policy, so Wes Welker might be in uniform for Week 3.
9-10-14: Peyton Manning started Sunday night’s game on fire, giving the Broncos a 24-0 lead late in the first half. The Indianapolis Colts came back in this contest, but Manning’s 269 yards and three TDs, which were all thrown to Julius Thomas, were enough for the Broncos’ 31-24 victory. Manning joined Brett Favre as the only quarterbacks in history to beat all 32 of the current NFL teams.
9-4-14: The Broncos thought that Wes Welker was just going to be limited early in the season due to his most recent concussion, but he was suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing drugs policy. Last week, his quarterback Peyton Manning was fined $8,268 for taunting. The Broncos also traded a conditional seventh-round pick to the New York Giants for kicker Brandon McManus, who will be replacing suspended kicker Matt Prater.
8-26-14: There was a lot going on at Sports Authority Field on Saturday in Denver. Peyton Manning completed 21 of 27 pass attempts for 243 yards and two touchdowns in the 18-17 loss to the Houston Texans. Emmanuel Sanders was targeted eight times and he brought in five receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Unfortunately, Wes Welker left the game with a concussion. Early on Sunday morning, it was announced that the NFL suspended kicker Matt Prater four games for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy.
8-20-14: The Broncos had a very nice day this past weekend when they faced the San Francisco 49ers. Peyton Manning completed 12 of his 14 pass attempts for 102 yards, and he threw a 17-yard touchdown to Julius Thomas in the Broncos’ 34-0 victory on Sunday. Unfortunately, the Broncos found out last week that linebacker Danny Trevathan has a knee fracture and will most likely be out until at least Denver’s bye week in Week 4.
8-14-14: On Tuesday, the Broncos signed defensive lineman Brian Sanford, who played five games with the Oakland Raiders last season. He will compete for one of the roster’s final spots. Then, two days later, the Broncos defeated the visiting Seattle Seahawks, 21-16. Peyton Manning led a touchdown drive early in the game, but Brock Osweiler’s 34-yard touchdown throw to Jordan Norwood gave Denver the victory.
8-5-14: After losing to the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl, the Broncos will host the defending champions in their preseason opener on Thursday. Denver will be without running back Montee Ball, who underwent an appendectomy on Monday. However, Ball should be ready for the beginning of the regular season as the Broncos strive to make it back to the Super Bowl.
7-30-14: The big news surrounding Denver has involved owner Pat Bowlen, who has formally stepped down from his post due to a battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The 70-year old Bowlen established himself as one of the greatest owners of all-time during his 30-year run and will relinquish control to team president Joe Ellis. Denver did get some recent good news, as pass rushing specialist Von Miller (torn ACL) and cornerback Chris Harris have both been cleared for limited action. The Broncos also seem to be one step closer to finding a backup to running back Montee Ball. Ronnie Hillman has reportedly impressed in that role and may hold off C.J. Anderson if he can continue to impress.
7-15-14: The Broncos had the best offense in the league (or history) in 2013, but they’re already thinking of new ways to get better. Athletic tight end Julius Thomas is going to be a big part of it, as Denver is said to be looking for ways to use him “more creatively”. After scoring 12 touchdowns despite catching under 70 balls in 2013, Thomas’ role should only increase in his fourth NFL season. The news isn’t so great for all Denver tight ends, as backup Joel Dreessen (knee) didn’t practice at all during the spring and could be a cut candidate. Cornerback Chris Harris has also been slow to recover from his own knee issue. He’s likely to begin Denver’s training camp on the PUP list after sustaining a partially torn ACL last season.
6-5-14: The defending AFC champs were extremely busy early in free agency and had a stellar draft by all accounts, but got some bad news with newly acquired safety T.J. Ward being issued an arrest warrant. His situation is fluid, but the Broncos have been aware of where he stands. On a lighter note, second-year running back Montee Ball looks to have the starting gig in a firm grasp, while the spot to be his top backup is apparently “wide open”. C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman are the favorites to battle it out for Denver’s number two spot in the backfield. Rookie wide receiver Cody Latimer could be involved in even more competition within Denver’s offense, as he could reportedly have an outside chance to start as a rookie. Broncos fans may want to temper those expectations, though, as Latimer has yet to fully recover from a foot injury.
5-19-14: What does a team that just went to the Super Bowl really need? If you’re the Broncos, it’s merely to get tougher. They actually did just that on defense in free agency, but they didn’t stop in their pursuit for a more well-rounded unit when it came to the 2014 NFL Draft:

With Champ Bailey gone and Chris Harris recovering from injury, Denver still needed some corner help - even after signing Aqib Talib in free agency. The immensely talented and athletic Roby certainly qualifies. Roby had a down 2013 season, but physically has the goods to be a stud corner at the next level.
While many expected Denver to focus largely on adding young pieces to their defense, they surprised with a nice offensive splash. Wide receiver Cody Latimer gives Peyton Manning and co. another electric offensive weapon, one that can help right away in 2014 and should also blossom into a stud starter down the road.
5-9-14: The Denver Broncos made a ton of key moves in free agency to make their defense better. Heading into the 2014 NFL Draft, though, they had a few holes they needed to patch up. With Champ Bailey gone and Chris Harris returning from injury, cornerback was definitely one of them. Denver realized this early on in the draft and jumped at Ohio State cornerback when he was somehow still available at the 31st overall pick. Roby had a down 2013 season and is not completely technically sound, but has the size, fluid hips and blazing speed of an elite NFL corner. He’ll only asked to be a nickel corner in his first season, making the chances of an immediate impact even better, as well.
4-28-14: The Denver Broncos are fresh off of an amazing offensive season and a Super Bowl run, so naturally there aren’t a ton of holes to be filled. In fact, the main holes they had in the secondary have been addressed in free agency, leaving few glaring needs as they enter May’s draft. Still, Denver could consider adding some young talent to their pass rush and defensive line. Specifically, Derek Wolfe and Von Miller struggled with health in 2013, while newly signed defensive end DeMarcus Ware is aging and has had health issues, as well. Adding someone like Stephon Tuitt, who can play both inside and out on the line, may be in order. Denver may also want to look to the future at some point in this draft, as well, where they could add a running back or wide receiver in case unproven guys like Montee Ball and Emmanuel Sanders don’t work out as planned. A young corner or safety would be worth a pick in the middle to late rounds, as well.
4-18-14: Peyton Manning and his Den
ver Broncos get back to the grind in week one of August, as they engage in an obviously hyped matchup with the Seattle Seahawks in a repeat of last year’s Super Bowl. Emotions will be flowing undoubtedly, although starters from both sides are likely to play only a series or two. Denver fans will get to see much more of Manning and the other starters in week two, however, as the Broncos travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers. Colin Kaepernick will test the newly acquired DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib on defense, while Manning and the offense will have a stiff test of their own. Week three brings on the Houston Texans, as the Broncos will spend their most time on the field in their week three meeting. The Denver Broncos preseason schedule will conclude in Dallas, where the starters should have limited time on the field against Tony Romo and the Cowboys.
4-7-14: The Denver Broncos were fresh off of a trip to the Super Bowl in 2013, yet they wasted no time getting even better at the start of the offseason. The Broncos let top free agents Knowshon Moreno, Eric Decker and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie all walk, and even let go longtime corner, Champ Bailey. Denver made up for their big losses on the open market, though, replacing Decker with the more explosive Emmanuel Sanders, while also upgrading over DRC with Aqib Talib. Denver added stud safety T.J. Ward and elite pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware for good measure, capping a fantastic run in free agency.
3-17-14: Despite coming up short in last year’s Super Bowl, the Denver Broncos are still stacked on offense and really only needed to fill a few pieces on defense to give it another go. While the team did lost great talent in Eric Decker and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, massive signings of cornerback Aqib Talib, safety T.J. Ward and pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware arguably made their few casualties afterthoughts. In fact, Denver even grabbed a wide receiver with more explosiveness than Decker for cheaper in former Steelers burner, Emmanuel Sanders. Their stay in free agency a clear success, the Broncos appear poised to make another deep playoff run in 2014.
2-3-14: Super Bowl 48 did not go as planned for the Denver Broncos. There was clearly the real possibility of Peyton Manning and co. coming up short against the Seattle Seahawks’ top-ranked defense, but no one saw a 35-point blowout coming.
The first offensive snap was a pretty bad omen, as the Denver center hiked the ball too earlier for an unprepared Manning, resulting in a safety and a quick 2-0 hole. The Broncos weren’t ever able to recover from that gaffe, digging themselves a 22-0 hole going into the half thanks to two interceptions from Manning - with on being returned for a touchdown.
Denver could have opted for a field goal with under four minutes to go in the first half - and probably should have - but chose not to and failed on a fourth down try. That had Denver entering the half with zero points on the board.
The second half couldn’t have started off worse, as Seattle got the ball to get things going again and Percy Harvin kept the momentum in the ‘Hawks favor with a fast kick return to make it 29-0.
Manning managed to connect with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas on the final play of the third quarter to get Denver’s first points on the board, while a Wes Welker two-point conversion catch made it 36-8. That would be Denver’s first and last score of the Super Bowl, however, as Seattle’s defense had their way from start to finish in the third biggest blowout in Super Bowl history - a 43-8 win.
The weather proved to be a non-factor outdoors in New York, but the Seattle defense clearly was. Despite putting up 55 passing touchdowns and over 5,400 passing yards during the regular season, Manning was held under 300 yards and tossed just one touchdown in the biggest game of the year.
On the bright side, Denver accomplished two positive records, as Demaryius Thomas set a new record for receptions in a Super Bowl (13) and Peyton Manning set a new record for completions in the big game with 34.
While Broncos players and fans alike will hang their hands for a little while going into the off-season, they can at least take solace in a fantastic 13-3 season and the fact that Denver got to the Super Bowl. And provided Manning passes his March neck exam, there’s a pretty good chance Denver can get back to this same game next year and try to finish the job.
1-22-14: There would be no epic comeback and overtime win for the New England Patriots this time around. Peyton Manning played mistake-free football, notching 400 passing yards and throwing two touchdowns as the Denver Broncos got back to the Super Bowl for the first time since the days of John Elway.
Manning had been on a mission ever since coming to Denver last season, but his struggles in post-season play reared their ugly head last season in the divisional round of the playoffs. Many felt it could happen again, but Manning proved his critics wrong with two straight playoffs wins, getting Denver back onto the league’s biggest stage - all the while igniting the football media with “Omaha” talk.
Tom Brady and the Patriots stormed back from a 23-3 hole late in the fourth quarter, but a botched two-point conversion ended their hopes at forcing overtime and New England fell on the road, 26-16.
The win has the 13-3 Broncos heading to New York to take on the 13-3 Seattle Seahawks in a game that will pit the league’s top offense (Denver) against the league’s best defense. It will be hyped up as a battle for the ages, while much of the focus will be on whether or not Manning can secure his second ever Super Bowl title - as well as whether or not a triumph could have the legendary quarterback walk off into the sunset as a champion.
1-15-14: Peyton Manning and co. weren’t exactly dominant in their third meeting against the San Diego Chargers, but they did enough to move on to the AFC Championship. Denver’s defense stuffed the Chargers’ ground game early and didn’t allow San Diego to score a single point until the fourth quarter, while Peyton Manning fired in two touchdown passes to help the Broncos get the 24-17 win.
It’s never easy to beat a team twice in the same year, so hats must go off for Denver not caving in the divisional round for the second year in a row. The win gives Manning his first playoff victory as a Bronco, while putting Denver into an epic meeting against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for a chance to play in the Super Bowl.
12-31-13: Peyton Manning and the Broncos wanted to accomplish two things in their season finale showdown with the Oakland Raiders. They wanted to nail down the number one overall seed for the playoffs, and wanted to get Manning the single-season yardage record. They got both. Manning bested Drew Brees’ old record by one yard and tacked on four more touchdowns to help Denver finish 13-3 for the second year in a row.
12-24-13: Peyton Manning threw four touchdowns and broke the single-season NFL record for touchdown passes in a season (51) as the Broncos overcame a slow start to top the Texans in Houston, 37-13.
12-17-13: Peyton Manning passed for two scores and nearly 300 yards, but the Broncos didn’t execute as well as they normally do in a shocking 27-20 home loss to the San Diego Chargers in week 15. Ryan Mathews ran 29 times for 127 yards as San Diego executed their game plan to perfection and kept the high-flying Denver offense of the field for much of the game.
12-10-13: Sloppy play early by Denver and solid play by the Titans gave the Broncos a scare early in week 14, as Tennessee jumped to a 21-10 lead. Peyton Manning and the Broncos rebounded as usual, however, as Manning fired in four touchdown passes to help Denver to a convincing 51-28 home victory.
12-3-13: The Kansas City Chiefs appeared to be well on their way to evening the season series with Denver in week 13, sitting on a 21-7 lead. Peyton Manning and co. wouldn’t be denied, however, as they flipped a switch and went on a 28-7 run to sweep the season series in Kansas City. Manning tossed five touchdowns and the Broncos defense stifled Alex Smith and the Chiefs on their final drive to help earn the 35-28 road win.
11-26-13: Knowshon Moreno pounded the rock an insane 37 times for over 220 rushing yards, but it wasn’t enough in the end to hold off the Patriots in New England in week 12. The Broncos built a commanding 24-0 lead thanks to Patriots turnovers in the first half, but couldn’t hold off a Tom Brady flurry and fell in overtime, 34-31.
11-19-13:
Peyton Manning failed to throw a touchdown pass for the first time all season and the Broncos scored the last amount of points they had all year, but Denver managed to hold on for a convincing 27-17 win over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. The Broncos ran the ball effectively and simply took what KC’s defense would give them, while the Chiefs were too lackluster on offense to every pose a serious threat.
11-12-13: Peyton Manning added to his potentially record-setting 2013 season with another four touchdowns as Denver built a 28-6 lead and held on for the 28-20 win on the road against the San Diego Chargers. Philip Rivers and Ryan Mathews both scores a touchdown late to help make it a one possession game, but Manning and co. soaked up the clock to earn their eighth win in nine tries and set up a huge showdown with the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs in week 11.
10-30-13: The Broncos looked to be in trouble early against the Washington Redskins, as they fell into a 21-7 hole thanks to turnovers. Peyton Manning and co. wouldn’t be denied, however, as the offense punched in four touchdowns and teamed with their defense to put up 38 unanswered points in the week eight home win.
10-22-13: Peyton Manning’s return to his old stomping grounds in Indianapolis didn’t go quite as planned. Manning received a warm welcome prior to the game and helped Denver jump out to a quick 14-10 lead, but it was mostly all Indy from there, as the Colts jumped out to a 33-14 lead thanks to four sacks, a safety and three Denver turnovers. The Broncos made it interesting late as Manning put up nearly 400 passing yards and three touchdowns, but late miscues kept the Broncos from a miraculous comeback as they fell to the Colts on the road, 39-33. The loss marked Denver’s first defeat of the 2013 season.
10-15-13: Peyton Manning and co. were supposed to feast in week six. Instead, the Jacksonville Jaguars got a pick-six right before the half and were down just 14-12 at the break. They kept this one close until late in the third quarter, but in the end Denver was just too much for one of the NFL’s winless teams. Knowshon Moreno punched in three rushing scores and Denver picked Chad Henne off twice to help finish up a 35-19 home win.
10-8-13: Peyton Manning’s ridiculous start continued in Dallas in week five, as the Broncos overcame a sloppy start and early 17-7 hole to win on a late field goal, 51-48. Manning was in a flat-out duel with Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, as the two exchanged blows all day, while combing for an insane 920 passing yards and 10 total touchdowns. Denver ultimately got the last laugh, however, as Romo tossed a costly interception with under two minutes remaining. The Broncos soaked up the remaining clock and Matt Prater kicked the game-winning field goal as time expired.
10-1-13: Peyton Manning stayed red hot and on a torrid pace for several NFL records against the Philadelphia Eagles in week four, as he tossed four touchdowns and sat out the final period in a 52-20 blowout win at home. Manning was simply surgical early in this one, as he helped Denver to a 21-13 lead at the break and put the finishing touches on a win in the third quarter, as he ended the day with 327 passing yards, while completing a ridiculous 82.4% of his passes. The Broncos running game helped grind the clock away the rest of the way, as Knowshon Moreno, Montee Ball and Ronnie Hillman combined to run for over 100 yards and a score on the ground.
9-19-13: That wouldn’t be the case, as the Broncos leaned on running back Knowshon Moreno for over 100 total yards and two scores, while rattling Eli Manning early and often and forced the younger Manning into four interceptions. Peyton was solid for the Broncos on offense, completing 30 of 43 passes for 307 yards and two TDs. The win improved the Broncos to 2-0 who will next take on the Oakland Raiders in Denver on Monday night.
9-10-13: The Broncos completely man-handled the defending champion Ravens, as Peyton Manning torched the secondary for over 460 passing yards, while tying an NFL-record with an insane seven touchdown passes. Denver’s defense was also surprisingly effective despite playing without cornerback Champ Bailey and pass-rushing specialist Von Miller as the Broncos won easily, 49-27. Denver looks to improve to 2-0 in Manning-Bowl 3 on Sunday afternoon at 4:25 PM at MetLife Stadium.
9-4-13: Broncos final roster cuts: RB Lance Ball, OL C.J. 8-22-13: Linebacker Von Miller has been suspended for six games for for violating the NFL's drug policy. He will return in Week 7 against the Colts.
8-21-13: Denver got hammered by the Seahawks 40-10 in their second preseason game of the season. To make matters worse they were also hit with two injuries. Starting defensive end Derek Wolfe had to be carted off the field on a stretcher after injuring his neck in the 1st. Luckily, he was moving all of his extremities. Later in the game, starting right guard Louis Vasquez left the game with a left knee injury. This is on top of losing center Dan Koppen for the year with an ACL tear earlier in training camp.
Back to the game itself, Peyton Manning was one of the bright spots, completing 11 of 16 passes for 163 yards and an 11-yard touchdown to former Patriots Wes Welker. TE Julius Thomas caught 4 balls for a team-leading 70 receiving yards. This week, the Broncos host the Rams at Mile High.
8-11-13: Thanks in part to three first half turnovers by San Francisco, the Broncos were able to win their preseason opener 10-6 over the Niners. Peyton Manning threw just four passes and completed two for 13 yards. Brock Osweiler threw for 105 yards on 13 of 18 from the field. Running back C.J. Anderson carried the ball 15 times for 69 yards.
7-10-13: Peyton Manning walked into Denver and almost got the Broncos to the AFC title game. This year, it will be Super Bowl or bust for Peyton and co. The journey will at least be made a tad easier with the addition of slot receiver Wes Welker and solid rookie running back Montee Ball, but losses such as Willis McGahee and Elvis Dumervil are certainly worth noting. For the most part, not much has changed in Denver, save for the high expectations that have only gotten more pressing.
6-12-13: Denver was a stalwart at home in 2012, even though they bowed out of the divisional round in Denver (losing to the eventual Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens). Things might not have ended as they’d hoped, but the fact remains that the Broncos made terrific strides with Peyton Manning under center, and were 13-3 a year ago.
The new year could boast the slogan “Super Bowl or bust”, and with those kind of expectations, it should be no surprise that Denver’s home games will cost $325 per game on average in 2013. Throw in the addition of elite slot receiver Wes Welker, and an already imposing offense solidifies that home game ticket price even more.

1-9-13: Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos look to make a serious push at the title.
