History Of The Nets

The former New Jersey Nets have now moved to the Brooklyn borough in New York. Brooklyn Nets tickets will now be an option for New York fans. Who is this team? Founded in 1967 as the New Jersey Americans, this team was an original member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). After changing their name to the New York Nets, the team won two ABA championships with a certain player named, Julius “Dr. J.” Erving. As one would imagine, Brooklyn Nets tickets then were a hot commodity. The final championship the Brooklyn Nets tickets afforded you was also the final season of the ABA. The merger that transpired found the Nets a part of the NBA in 1976. Finding a consistent place to play their games was a challenge. The inconsistency of venues wreaked havoc on the purchase of Brooklyn Nets tickets. This was because there was another NBA team in New York and trying to create a true fan base with two teams is difficult.

As a part of the NBA, the Brooklyn Nets tickets granted the fans the opportunity to see the successes and failures over the years. With players like Nate Archibald, Rick Barry, Darryl Dawkins, Mookie Blaylock, Orlando Woolridge, Dennis Hospson, Jason Kidd and Vince Carter, over the years, the team eventually made a NBA finals appearance in 2003. They lost to the LA Lakers.

Tragedy also hit the team when Drazen Petrovic was killed in a car accident during off season in 1993. His number “3” jersey has been retired.

Barclays Center & The Fans

With so many moves, the Brooklyn Nets tickets sales has been erratic at best. One reason is due to the team not having a consistent fan base. With moves back and forth from New York, they have played in many arenas including: Teaneck Armory, Long Island Arena, Island Garden, Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Rutgers Athletic Center, Izod Center, Prudential Center and now the Barclays Center. When you think of the name “Nets”, one wonders what the significance of the name is and how that name was derived. The name was selected because it rhymed with two other New York teams--- the Mets, the professional baseball team and the Jets, the professional football team. Also a “net” is part of the apparatus needed to play basketball. Using all that logic, the name Nets was decided upon. Make sense doesn’t it? The Brooklyn Net’s biggest fan now is rapper, Jay Z. As a part owner of the team, Jay Z has grabbed the reins and has been in the forefront of making the Brooklyn Nets tickets more desirable in New York. Jay Z designed two new logos with the new colors of the team, which are black and white. The new Brooklyn Nets will soon make their grand appearance. As for the other Nets fans, they are ready to purchase Brooklyn Nets tickets and finally put down their stakes as a true blue Brooklyn Nets fan. All of the NBA fans are waiting to see the outcome of this brand change.

Nets News

12-5-14: The Brooklyn Nets have been one of the worst teams in the Eastern Conference this season as the team has only been able to post a 6-8 record in the first five weeks of the new NBA season. The Nets started this week by playing host to one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference this season in the Chicago Bulls. During the contest the Nets had a rough night shooting from the field as a team. Brooklyn finished the contest with just 37% shooting and 14% shooting from beyond the arc while knocking down just 18 free throws. Chicago on the other hand shot 49% from the field and 29% from beyond the arc as Jimmy Butler and Pau Gasol led the charge for the Bulls. When all was said and done the Bulls took down the Nets by the final score of 102-84. The Nets looked to get back into the win column in their next contest as the team traveled across town to Madison Square Garden to take on the New York Knicks. During the contest Carmelo Anthony played over 42 minutes for the Knicks taking a game leading 22 shots and scoring 20 points while teammate Jose Calderon added 19 points on 7-9 shooting. The Knicks fell behind early and once again relied on the three point shot to climb back into the contest late in the third quarter before the superior shooting of the Nets took over. Brooklyn center Brook Lopez led all Nets players with 23 points while Joe Johnson added 22 points in a 98-93 victory over Carmelo and the Knicks. Brooklyn finished their week off back at home as the team played host to the San Antonio Spurs. During the contest the Nets held the Spurs to just 36% shooting from the field but once again San Antonio found a way to stay close. Brooklyn held Tony Parker to just 9 points in the contest while Manu Ginobli and Tim Duncan only combined for 29 points. The Spurs stayed close with their defense as the team brought down more rebounds and took 11 more shots than the team from Brooklyn. In the end it didn’t matter as the Nets and Mirza Teletovic went on to edge the defending NBA champions by the score of 95-93. When the week was all said and done the team finished with an overall record of 8-9. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team hosts the Atlanta Hawks and the Cleveland Cavaliers before setting out on the road to face off with the Chicago Bulls to finish the week.

11-28-14: The Brooklyn Nets start to the 2014/2015 campaign has not gone as planned with a team that had high expectations heading into the season. Brooklyn started the season with just a 4-7 record in the first three weeks and will look to turn around their season this week. The Nets started this week by traveling to Oklahoma City to take on the Oklahoma City Thunder on the road. The Thunder were led by Reggie Jackson’s 21 points and 8 assists but Oklahoma City shot just 20% from three point land and 63% from the free throw line. Meanwhile the Nets had a great night shooting as the team finished 27-30 shooting from the charity stripe in a 94-92 victory for the Nets. Brooklyn was led by 23 points from Jarrett Jack while Deron Williams added 17 points in the victory. The very next night the Nets were in San Antonio taking on the San Antonio Spurs in a road contest. In the game the Nets were led by 24 points from Deron Williams but just two other Brooklyn players scored in double figures in the contest. The Nets finished with a 37% shooting percentage from the field and a 33% shooting percentage from beyond the arc in a cold night of shooting for Brooklyn. Meanwhile the Spurs shot 52% from the field as a team and were led by 22 points from Tony Parker in a 99-87 victory for San Antonio. Brooklyn set out in their final game of the week to take on the winless Philadelphia 76ers in a road game for the Nets. The winless Sixers were led by Tony Wroten and KJ McDaniels who scored 18 points each but the team as a whole shot just 40% from the field. The Nets shot well as a team shooting 49% from the field including Joe Johnson’s 21 point night to lead all scorers for Brooklyn. In the end the Nets came out on top keeping the Sixers winless on the season as Brooklyn beat Philadelphia by the score of 99-91. When the week was all said and done the team finished with an overall record of 6-8. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team hosts the Chicago Bulls in Brooklyn before setting out on the road to face the New York Knicks. The Nets will finish their week off heading back to Brooklyn to host the San Antonio Spurs.

11-21-14: The Brooklyn Nets beginning to their 2014/2015 season has not exactly gone according to the plan as the team has limped out to a 4-4 record to start the season. The Nets started this week by traveling to Portland to take on a tough Portland Trail Blazers team on the road. Brooklyn took 19 shots from beyond the three point line in the contest and only knocked down one of them as the Nets shot just 5% from three point land. Meanwhile the Trail Blazers knocked down 11 of their 26 attempts from beyond the three point mark as Portland took down the Nets by the score of 97-87. The Nets continued their schedule by traveling back home to Brooklyn to host the Miami Heat in an Eastern Conference showdown. In the contest the Nets had a cold night shooting from the field as the team shot just 41% from the field and scored no more than 22 points in any of the four quarters. The Heat were still without Dwyane Wade in the contest but Mario Chalmers picked up the slack in his absence scoring 22 points in a 95-83 victory for Miami. The Nets finished their week off by traveling back to Brooklyn to host the Milwaukee Bucks in a home game. Brooklyn enjoyed a breakout game from Brook Lopez as he led all scorers with 26 points while five of his teammates scored in double figures in the contest. The Nets found themselves in the middle of a shootout though when the Bucks matched the Nets with five of their own players scoring in double figures. This game was well contested on both sides and it took three overtime periods to decide the contest. In the end the Bucks were too much for the Nets in the third overtime as Milwaukee went on to beat Brooklyn by the score of 122-118. When the week was all said and done the team finished with an overall record of 4-7. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team plays a trio of road contests against the Oklahoma City Thunder, San Antonio Spurs, and Philadelphia 76ers.

11-14-14: The Brooklyn Nets had a tough week last week as the team finished the week with an even 2-2 record on the season. The Nets started this week by hosting their cross town rivals in the New York Knicks at home in Brooklyn. In the game the Nets were red hot from the field shooting an impressive 51% from the field, 58% from three point land, and 77% from the free throw line while the Knicks were held to just 41% from the field, 42% from beyond the arc, and 81% from the charity stripe. In the contest Deron Williams led all scorers for the Nets with 29 points while Brook Lopez added 20 points in a 110-99 victory for Brooklyn. The Knicks scoring attack was led by 19 points from Carmelo Anthony but it was not enough in the loss. In the Nets next contest the team looked to start a winning streak when they hosted the Orlando Magic at home. In the game Nikola Vucevic led the way for the Magic with 27 points while Evan Fournier chipped in 19 points but it wasn’t enough. Brooklyn’s Bojan Bogdanovic led the Nets with 22 points while Deron Williams added 18 in a 104-96 victory over the Orlando Magic. Brooklyn took the victory with them back home to host the Phoenix Suns in their next contest. Phoenix was led by 28 points from Gerald Green in the contest while Isaiah Thomas added 21 points in a 112-104 victory over the Nets. Brooklyn had six players that scored in double digits in the contest but it wasn’t enough in the loss to the Suns. Brooklyn finished their schedule this week by traveling to Golden State to take on the red hot Golden State Warriors on the road. In the contest the Nets shot themselves in the foot shooting just 19% from behind the three point line while the team shot just 44% from the field as a team on the night. Jarrett Jack led the Nets with 23 points while Deron Williams, Joe Johnson, Kevin Garnett, and Andree Kirilenko had tough nights shooting in the contest. Meanwhile Golden State was led by 25 points from Klay Thompson and 17 points from Stephen Curry in a 107-99 victory for the Warriors. When the week was all said and done the team finished with an overall record of 4-4. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team heads out on the road to play the Portland Trail Blazers before heading back home to host the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks in Brooklyn.

11-7-14: The Brooklyn Nets started their 2014/2015 season off last week by losing to the Boston Celtics on the road to drop their record to 0-1 on the season. With the 2014/2015 season entering its first full week the Nets started the week by traveling to Detroit to take on the Pistons. Joe Johnson led all scorers with 34 points in the contest and was one of five Nets players to score in double figures while holding down the Pistons Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith to win their first game of the season by the score of 102-90. Two nights later the Brooklyn Nets headed home to host the Oklahoma City Thunder in Brooklyn in a game that the Nets dominated on the offensive front. In the contest Brook Lopez and Alan Anderson took over with 18 points each as six Nets scored in double figures in the contest. Reggie Jackson chipped in 23 points for the Thunder as four Oklahoma City players scored in double figures in a 116-85 Nets victory. Brooklyn finished the week off at home hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the game Minnesota was led by 26 points from Kevin Martin and four other Wolves in double figures in a 98-91 victory over the Nets. Brooklyn was led by Joe Johnson’s 22 points and Deron Williams 19 points in the loss. When the week was all said and done the team had an overall record of 2-2 to start their 2014/2015 campaign. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team starts the week off by hosting the New York Knicks and the Orlando Magic at home. Brooklyn will then travel out on the road to face off with the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors to end the week

10-31-14: The Brooklyn Nets tipped off the 2014-2015 season by facing off with the Boston Celtics on the road after a 4-2 record in the preseason. The Nets will look to rebound after a franchise devastating trade last season that brought Kevin Garnett, Jason Terry, and Paul Pierce last preseason. Garnett is the only member of their big three that is still currently on the team that looks to get past their rash of injuries from last season and build towards an NBA championship. The final roster cut for the Nets to trim down to the league maximum 15 players was Casper Ware. The Nets felt like they had more roster flexibility with the likes of Jorge Gutierrez, Corey Jefferson and Jerome Jordan than Ware which resulted in the waiving of the point guard. With the Nets roster complete the team traveled to Boston to take on the Celtics and lost by the score of 121-105. Mirza Teletovic’s 20 points led the way for Brooklyn in the loss while Kelly Olynyk led eight Celtics players that scored in double digits in the game with 19 points. Brooklyn started the season 0-1 and will look to rebuild next week when the season really gets going. Get your Nets tickets for next week as the team plays three home games including a road game with the Detroit Pistons followed by a pair of home games with the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Minnesota Timberwolves.

10-29-14: After making a groundbreaking deal to land Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett last offseason, the Nets made a push into the Eastern Conference Semifinals before falling to the Heat in five games. They’ll be without Pierce this season, but the season average has seen a significant rise in price on the secondary market for home games at the Barclays Center. The average secondary market price for Nets tickets is $198.87, up 42.6% from last season’s average of $139.38. The team will play its most expensive home game against the Cavaliers on March 27, with the average price currently listed at $395.12 with a get-in price of $88.

10-24-14: The Brooklyn Nets are no longer with Paul Pierce, and aging star Kevin Garnett is a shell of his former All-Star self. That hasn’t stopped the optimistic view of the Nets, however, as they will rely on budding star Mirza Teletovic and a cast of young talent to support veterans like Garnett and Deron Williams. The Nets entered the Eastern Conference Semifinals last season and have garnered records above .500 over their first two seasons at the Barclays Center.

10-15-14: The Brooklyn Nets have won all of the three preseason games they’ve played so far with a win over Tel Aviv in their preseason opener and back to back victories over the Sacramento Kings, including 129-117 OT win earlier today. The Nets will now get ready to play the Boston Celtics at the Barclay’s Center this Sunday followed by two more preseason games against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct 20 and their final preseason game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Oct 22. Brooklyn will open their regular season on the road when they face the Boston Celtics at TD Garden on Oct 29.

10-8-14: The Brooklyn Nets won their first preseason game over a Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team in a non NBA matchup. There are only five games remaining on the Brooklyn Nets preseason schedule with two upcoming games against the Sacramento Kings October 12 and 15, followed by dates with the Boston Celtics October 19 and Philadelphia 76ers on October 20 at the Barclays Center and finish their preseason against the Celtics on October 22 at TD Garden. The Nets come into this season with the league’s highest payroll for the second consecutive year but had some significant personnel losses and hiring a new Head Coach in Lionel Hollins.

9-22-14: The Nets has a strange summer to say the least. They lost some key pieces from last season’s late surge into the second round of the playoffs. Their hero from their series against Toronto Paul Pierce, hit free agency and signed with the Washington Wizards. Head coach Jason Kidd in a powerplay move to try and become president of basketball operations was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets also lost the resurgent Shaun Livingston in free agency to the Warriors. Though things are not all gloom, they have hired Lionel Hollins the former coach of the Memphis Grizzlies, traded for Jarrett Jack and signed European star Bojan Bogdanovic.

8-13-14: The Brooklyn Nets had an up and down 2013-14 season. Coming into this year, there is new leadership as Jason Kidd after one year as head coach bolted to the Milwaukee Bucks and in comes in Lionel Hollins as the replacement, the former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies. However, the Nets had some key losses in losing Paul Pierce to Washington and Shaun Livingston to Golden State, but were able to acquire Jarret Jack in a trade with Golden State and getting Sergey Karasev in a three way deal with the Cavaliers and Celtics. Still, it doesn’t look like the Nets will be contenders for a NBA title this year.

Brooklyn Nets 2014 Draft Overview

Round 2, Pick 44, Markel Brown, SG, Oklahoma State (via trade with Minnesota
Timberwolves) Round 2, Pick 59, Xavier Thames, PG, San Diego State (via trade with Toronto Raptors)
Round 2, Pick 60, Cory Jefferson, PF, Baylor (via trade with Philadelphia 76ers)

5-19-14: The Nets started this past week on a great note. They made 15 shots from 3-point distance to win their first game of the series. Andray Blatche registered a double-double and Brooklyn shot 60 percent from downtown, but Jason Kidd’s squad could not get close to that number during the rest of the series. The Nets shot 5-of-22 from deep in Game 4 and 8-of-22 from 3-point land in Game 5, and both games were losses. Heading into the 2014-15 season, the Nets will have Brook Lopez back, but the team could look completely different, as Mikhail Prokhorov continues the search for his first NBA championship.

5-12-14: The Nets were in the difficult position of needing to win both Game 6 and Game 7 in order to advance to the second round of the 2014 NBA playoffs. Friday did not start so well for Brooklyn with coach Jason Kidd being fined $25,000 for public criticism of the officiating after the Game 5 loss to the Toronto Raptors. However, the day ended well as the Nets defeated the visiting Raptors, 97-83, to force a Game 7. In Toronto, Paul Pierce blocked Kyle Lowry’s potential game-winning shot to get the Nets to the second round. Unfortunately, it will be an uphill battle for Brooklyn with the Heat being up 2-0 in the current series.

5-5-14: The Nets’ backs are against the wall. Owner Mikhail Prokhorov spent a lot of money on this 2013-14 Brooklyn squad, and it dropped two consecutive games to the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs. Although the Nets took a 2-1 lead in the series, they will have to win Games 6 and 7 to move on to face the Miami Heat. However, in Game 3, the Nets gave their home crowd a reason to cheer. Joe Johnson’s team-high 29 points led Brooklyn to the 102-98 victory. In Games 4 and 5, Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan were too much to handle as the Raptors won both of those contests.

4-28-14: The Nets’ veteran leadership was on display in Game 1. After scoring just six points in the first 45 minutes, Paul Pierce put up nine in the final three minutes of the contest. Joe Johnson and Deron Williams each scored a game-high 24 points. Brooklyn fought hard in Game 2 in Toronto, but could not take both of the road contests to start the series. DeMar DeRozan’s 30 points and Jonas Valanciunas’ game-high 14 rebounds were too much for the Nets to handle. The Nets lost Tuesday’s Game 2, 100-95. Jason Kidd’s squad will look to bounce back in Game 3 on Friday.

4-21-14: What a home winning streak that was for the Nets. However, they dropped their home contests on April 11 and April 15, and they fell in the Eastern Conference standings. The loss to the Atlanta Hawks stopped Brooklyn’s franchise-best 15-game home winning streak, and Jason Kidd’s squad then lost to the New York Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers in order to face the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs. After missing 19 straight games, Kevin Garnett returned to play in five of the team’s final seven contests of the regular season. Garnett’s size and postseason experience add a lot to this Nets team, and his presence is important for them in the playoffs.

4-16-14: Brooklyn Nets playoff tickets average $180 on the secondary market, which is 6th in the eastern conference and 11th overall. The regular season average was $140, meaning there is a 29% premium for playoff tickets. The Nets are currently the 5th seed in the east and set to face the Chicago Bulls in the opening round for the 2nd year in a row.

4-7-14: Kevin Garnett remains out, but the Nets were able to sweep their three-game homestand this past week. They beat the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Houston Rockets to set a new franchise record with 14 straight home wins. Paul Pierce was the game-high scorer in the final two contests in March. Brooklyn opened the following month with the Eastern Conference’s best record in 2014. In addition, the NBA named Jason Kidd the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for March. Then, the Nets split their back-to-back set. Wednesday’s loss at Madison Square Garden was their only loss of the week.

4-1-14: Before this week, the Nets had only played four overtime games this season. The final three games of Brooklyn’s week went to the extra frame. The only non-overtime contest for the Nets was a revenge game for them. Just two weeks earlier, the Nets fell to the Celtics in Boston. However, this time around, they beat the visiting Celtics by 16 points. Then, the Nets went on a three-game road trip. They split their back-to-back set with the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. Then, Brooklyn fell to four games above .500 with the loss to the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday.

3-24-14: The Nets continue to move their record further above .500. They began the week on Saturday by signing Jason Collins for the rest of the season. Then, that night, Marcus Thornton made five 3-pointers, but it was in a loss. The Nets fell to the Washington Wizards, 101-94. In that contest, Paul Pierce passed Patrick Ewing for 18th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Brooklyn bounced back from the loss with two victories. Deron Williams dropped a game-high 28 points on very efficient shooting as the Nets beat the Phoenix Suns, 108-95, on Monday. With a 104-99 Nets win over the Charlotte Bobcats on Wednesday, they now have won 10 straight home games.

3-17-14: Paul Pierce struggled in his second return to Boston, as Brooklyn fell to the Celtics by seven points on Friday. With that loss, the Nets dropped to 30-30 on the season, but they proceeded to bounce back to go 3-0 the rest of the week. They hosted the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors in a back-to-back set. In the first contest, former King Marcus Thornton came off the bench to score a team-high 27 points in the 104-89 victory. Then, after a four-point win over the Raptors, the Kevin Garnett-less Nets improved to 3-0 against the Miami Heat this season with a 96-95 victory on Wednesday. Pierce led the way with a game-high 29 points that evening.

3-10-14: This is the Nets’ time to shine. With their 3-0 week, they moved their record to above .500 for the first time this season. The impressive part about the perfect week was that Brooklyn did it without Kevin Garnett, who is by far the best defensive rebounder in the league this season. On Saturday, Brooklyn went to Milwaukee, and Marcus Thornton scored a game-high 25 points off the bench in the nine-point victory. Then, two days later, the Nets got the 96-80 win over the Chicago Bulls, and Jason Collins received a standing ovation in his first home game since signing with the Nets. On Wednesday, the Nets signed Collins to a second 10-day contract. Later that evening, Brooklyn won its fourth game in a row with a 103-94 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies.

3-4-14: The Nets hit a milestone last night, reaching .500 for the first time since early November. At 29-29, the Nets are currently 6th in the East and are finally playing like the team the experts predicted at the beginning of the season. The Nets are currently 3 and a half games behind Toronto for the Atlantic Division lead.

3-3-14: The Nets continued their lengthy road trip this past week and had a 2-2 record. They played two sets of back-to-backs and surprisingly lost both front ends and won both back ends. After falling by seven points on Saturday night against the Golden State Warriors, the Nets made history on Sunday. Jason Collins signed with the Nets and became the first openly gay active player in NBA history, as he played in the 108-102 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers. Deron Williams had a game-high 30 points in the win that evening. Then, three days later, Marcus Thornton played his first game as a Net. However, it came in a brutal 124-80 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Brooklyn did bounce back to blow out the Denver Nuggets the following night.

2-24-14: The Nets had a light week of basketball action on the court as they had two participants in All-Star weekend and played just one game as a team. On Friday, rookie Mason Plumlee scored the second-most points for a player on Team Webber in the Rising Stars Challenge. He also contributed seven rebounds and a game-high four steals. Then, Joe Johnson took part in both the 3-Point Shootout and the All-Star game. Johnson made it a great week by scoring a game-high 27 points in Brooklyn’s 105-99 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. Before that game, the Nets acquired Marcus Thornton from the Sacramento Kings for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans.

2-21-14: With a roster spot open after the trade deadline, the Nets have been linked to free agent center Jason Collins in recent rumors. Collins played with the then New Jersey Nets from 2001 through 2008. Collins made headlines in 2013 when he became the first active NBA player to announce himself as gay.

2-19-14: The Nets have acquired guard Marcus Thornton from the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Jason Terry and Reggie Evans. The move gives the Nets depth at the shooting guard position while the Kings can give the secondary scorer duties to rookie Ben McLemore, whom has competed with Thornton for playing time throughout the season.

2-18-14: In February, the Nets have continued their trend of performing well at home and poorly on the road. Brooklyn has played in seven games this month as they head into the All-Star break: they are undefeated in the February contests at the Barclays Center, but are winless on the road. On Friday, the Nets rested Kevin Garnett and fell to the Pistons in Detroit by 16 points. However, Mason Plumlee led Jason Kidd’s squad past the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday as he set a new career-high in points and matched a career-high in rebounds. Paul Pierce took the reins on Wednesday as the Nets defeated the Bobcats, but Brooklyn struggled again on the second night of a back-to-back with a 92-76 loss in Chicago.

2-10-14: The Nets’ busy week started with an ugly home loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Brooklyn set the NBA record for the fewest rebounds in a game on Friday in the 120-95 loss. Then on Saturday, the Nets knew they were in for a difficult test. They headed to Indiana to face a team that had lost just two games at home all season. Deron Williams returned to the starting lineup, but that was not enough for Brooklyn. The Pacers defeated the Nets by one point that evening. Even with this losing streak, the NBA named Jason Kidd the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month on Monday. Shaun Livingston was inspired by the announcement and went on to get a career-high seven steals in Brooklyn’s 108-102 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers. The Nets made it two wins in a row as they rode their 63 second-half points to a win over the depleted San Antonio Spurs on Thursday.

2-3-14: The Nets continued their winning streak during the weekend, as they defeated both the Dallas Mavericks and Boston Celtics. On Friday, Mirza Teletovic scored a career-high 34 points and Kevin Garnett contributed his second double-double of the season in Brooklyn’s one-point victory over the Mavericks. Then on Sunday, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett returned to Boston for the first time since being traded. Pierce was overcome with emotion, but his teammates were able to get the victory in the low-scoring affair. For the second time in January, the Nets won five consecutive games, but Pierce’s game-high 33 points on Monday were not enough as Brooklyn gave the game away to the Toronto Raptors.

1-27-14: The Nets had a light week of games after returning from London, but they were busy off the court. Brooklyn acquired Marquis Teague from the Bulls in exchange for Toko Shengelia on the same day that the organization traded Tyshawn Taylor to the New Orleans Pelicans for the draft rights to Edin Bavcic. While the Nets were dealing for their new third-string point guard, their star point guard returned to the court for each of the team’s two games this past week. After sitting for five contests, Deron Williams came off the bench for the first time since his rookie year. He played more than 25 minutes against both the New York Knicks and Orlando Magic and helped the Nets move to an NBA-best 8-1 record in January.

1-20-14: The Nets finished 2013 at 11 games below .500, but they are quickly making a name for themselves with their strong performances in the New Year. Unfortunately, Deron Williams did not get to be on the court with his “D-Will” jersey, but Brooklyn still won the NBA’s first nickname jersey game on January 10. The Nets defeated the Miami Heat, 104-95, in double-overtime to push their winning streak to a season-best five games. However, with Kevin Garnett resting on Saturday against the Toronto Raptors, the streak ended with a 16-point loss. The Nets then traveled to London to take on the Atlanta Hawks. Brooklyn made 16 shots from 3-point distance to win, 127-110.

1-3-14: Shaun Livingston kicked off the week with a vintage performance. He led all scorers with 20 points en route to leading his team to a 104-93 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks. The Nets then embarked on arguably the toughest three-game road trip for any team this season, as they faced the Indiana Pacers, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder. Not only did Brooklyn have to start it off with the second night of a back-to-back in Indiana, but the team also had to play without Andray Blatche and Tyshawn Taylor. Although they lost by a combined 35 points against the Pacers and Spurs, Deron Williams’ game-high 29 points and Joe Johnson’s buzzer-beater brought the Nets the shocking upset over the Thunder on Thursday.

12-30-13: When Brooklyn traveled to Philadelphia on Friday, the team hoped to turn its season around. However, not only did the Nets lose that game, but they also lost their starting center for the season. About 12 hours after Evan Turner hit the game-winner in overtime to defeat Brooklyn, the NBA world learned that Brook Lopez fractured the fifth metatarsal in his right foot. As a result, Jason Kidd moved Mirza Teletovic back into the starting five and pushed Kevin Garnett to the center position. Although Jason Terry returned from a 15-game absence, the Nets fell to both the Indiana Pacers and Chicago Bulls to bring their losing streak to four games.

12-22-13: Although the Nets went 1-2 in the last week, Joe Johnson dazzled the Barclays Center crowd with an NBA-record eight 3-pointers made in a quarter on Monday. He went on to score a season-high 37 points in the Nets’ blowout of the Philadelphia 76ers, and his 10 made shots from deep stand as the most 3-point shots made by anyone in a game this season. Even though Brook Lopez returned to the lineup, the Nets still lost to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. However, the Nets still have won three of their five contests since Deron Williams’ return from an injury of his own. .

12-13-13: Now, this is what Nets fans have been waiting to see. Heading into Friday’s NBA games, Brooklyn had the Eastern Conference’s longest winning streak after completing a 3-0 week. The Nets defeated the Bucks in Milwaukee on Saturday and then traveled home to take down the Celtics on Tuesday and the Clippers on Thursday. However, Brook Lopez left Thursday’s game with a left ankle sprain, which could sideline him for a few contests. The Nets will only go as far as Deron Williams and Lopez take them, so the Brooklyn big man needs to be healthy for this team to be a championship contender this season.

12-6-13: Mikhail Prokhorov stocked his team with many veteran players, but one of them is first-year coach Jason Kidd. He has been under fire recently not only for Brooklyn’s poor play, but also for his soda incident and demotion of Lawrence Frank. After losing at Houston on Friday, Kidd’s Nets got a solid road victory against the Memphis Grizzlies the following night. However, the Denver Nuggets then dropped the Nets by 24, and the Knicks took down their fellow New Yorkers by a whopping 30 points. Injuries to Deron Williams, Paul Pierce, Andrei Kirilenko and Jason Terry have severely hurt the Nets early in the season, so it important to wait and see how the Nets perform with a healthy roster, especially in a weak Eastern Conference.

11-28-13: The Nets slide into the doldrums of the NBA continues, as Brooklyn lost three of their four games over the last week. Their only win was a two point road win against the Toronto Raptors which saw Andray Blatche (starting for the injured Brook Lopez) scoring a Nets game high 24 points. In a story that just seems to comical to be real, Head Coach Jason Kidd was fined $50,000 for intentionally spilling a drink to get his team a late timeout against the Lakers. They lost the game and are now the proud owners of a 4-11 record heading into Friday night’s road game against the Houston Rockets.

11-22-13: Riding a 3-game losing streak and injuries to Deron Williams and Brook Lopez, the aging Brooklyn Nets have been the most disappointing team in the league thus far. Expecting to compete for one of the top seeds in the Eastern Conference, Brooklyn has lost six of their last seven games – including losses to the Sacramento Kings and Charlotte Bobcats. With a 3-8 record, the schedule doesn’t get much easier over the next week with each of the next six games against teams with playoff aspirations.

11-15-13: The Nets entered week three of the 2013 NBA season at a decent 2-2 and no one could blame them due to injuries and new team chemistry. However, after a rough 0-3 run in the third week, Nets fans may start to worry. The head-scratching reached it’s highest point on Wednesday night when the Nets fell to the Sacramento Kings, who had previously won just one game through their first six contests. For the Nets to get back on track, they’ll need Deron Williams back at full health and a team of aging stars to establish much better chemistry on both sides of the court.

11-8-13: The Brooklyn Nets were constructed to win now, as well as to largely contend with the Miami Heat. Four games into the 2013 NBA season, they’re 1-0 against the Heat. Consider one goal semi-accomplished. The new-look Nets offer a good amount of promise once point guard Deron Williams is off a minute restriction and once new head coach Jason Kidd can get comfortable. For now, all we know for sure is the Nets are 2-2 and have a ton of veteran talent and upside to go with their aging but experienced roster.

10-30-13: After a blockbuster trade and bringing Jason Kidd and Lawrence Frank onto the coaching staff during the offseason, this team is ready to contend for a championship. Most of the Nets are dealing with minor injuries, so rest will be important. Even with many of its important players off the court for the majority of the preseason, the team still won five of its seven games by a margin of almost 10 points per game. Brook Lopez, Andray Blatche and Shaun Livingston led the team to its success. Deron Williams should be ready for the regular season, but Livingston will be an important backup for this team as long as he can stay healthy.

10-20-13: This seasons Nets team has a completely different look from last years team with the additions of Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry as well as new head coach Jason Kidd. In the preseason so far the Nets have attained a record of 4-1 and with all their recent additions the Nets have positioned themselves as a real threat to win the Atlantic Division and make a deep playoff push in the Eastern Conference.

The Nets have two games remaining in the preseason:

  • October 23 @ Boston
  • October 25 @ Miami

10-17-13: The Nets have put guard Marko Jaric on waivers.

10-14-13: The noise out of the Brooklyn Nets camp is at their poised to make a championship run this season. Three of the new pieces that they've added this off-season already have championship rings. Under new head coach Jason Kidd they will look for leadership from two new players in Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett. The Brooklyn Nets into this a paid a huge rivalry with the New York Knicks this season. Last year the two teams split before meetings during the regular season. December 5 Marks the first time the two will meet for the upcoming season.

9-5-13: Jay-Z is selling his shares of the Nets to new head coach and former Nets point guard, Jason Kidd. Jay-Z has 1/15th of a percent stake in the the team worth approximately $500,000.

8-24-13: It's being reported that the 2015 NBA All-Star game festivities will be split between the Barclays Center and Madison Square Gardens. The game will reportedly be played at MSG, while all other festivities, including the rookie game, skills competition, dunk contest and three point contest will be held at the Barclays Center.

8-23-13: Russian billionaires don’t buy sporting franchises in order to settle for mediocrity. Mikhail Prokhorov, a year after being run out of the first round of the NBA Playoffs, gave the green light to spend, spend, spend this offseason as the Brooklyn Nets will sport the highest payroll in the league next season. After 15 seasons with the Celtics, Paul Pierce will don the Brooklyn black and white this season along with his fellow Boston teammates Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry. Not settling there, Brooklyn added even more depth by persuading Russian free agent Andrei Kirilenko to take a discounted deal and then re-signed the resurgent Andray Blatche.

The intra-borough rivalry with the New York Knicks will return for the second season as the Knicks will travel across the East River to the Barclays Center on Thursday, December 5th as well as for the final Brooklyn home game on Tuesday, April 15th. The Chicago Bulls, who knocked the Nets out of the playoffs last season, will make a Christmas day visit to Brooklyn. The Nets will open their home schedule on Friday, November 1st against LeBron James and the defending champion Miami Heat.

Key Home Games:

  • November 1st – Miami Heat
  • December 5th – New York Knicks
  • December 25th – Chicago Bulls
  • January 31st – Oklahoma City Thunder
  • April 15th – New York Knicks

8-18-13: If anyone was doubting if there was actually a rivalry between the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks, Paul Pierce made sure everyone knew where he stood when he spoke on ESPN radio the other day. “Everybody knows how much I disliked the Knicks when I was with the Celtics, but I think it’s grown to another level,” Pierce said. “I think it’s time for the Nets to start running this city.”

7-18-13: The Nets introduce Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry to the New York Media:

In other news, they've also waived forward D.J. White.

7-11-13: The Nets have signed Andrei Kirilenko for their mini mid-level exception for $3.1 million. The deal also includes a 2nd year player option.

Nets 2013 NBA Draft Summary:

  • Round 1, Pick 22: C, Mason Plumlee, Duke.

The Brooklyn Nets also made a draft night trade to acquirePaul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Jason Terry from the Celtics. In return they sent three first-round picks (2014, '16 and '18) along with Kris Joseph, Kris Humphries' expiring contract, Gerald Wallace, MarShon Brooks and Keith Bogans to Boston.

6-12-13: If Brooklyn were told that it’s team would win 49 games in its inaugural season as well as earn the right to host the first round of the playoffs at home, many of its faithful would sign up for that. However this season was filled with a ton of ups and downs from certain players as well as a coaching change that rocked the boat. Despite all of that, the season ended on a sour note when the extremely shorthanded Bulls, were able to clip the Nets in game 7 in Brooklyn. Moving forward the Nets, as a team do not have much maneuverability so expect their roster to look very much the same come next year. However consistent play along with leadership from Deron Williams could be a huge difference maker.

2-14-13: The Brooklyn Nets have remained in the race despite a lot of up and down play through the first half of the season. A coaching change and several injuries have acted as road blocks for the Nets but they have not haunted their race to win the division. Currently in second place the Nets played their last two games without Deron Williams, however they won both of those games against the Pacers and Nuggets, both who are in playoff contention. As the competition stiffens time will tell if these Nets are for real or not. They have played inspired basketball under new coach P.J. Carlesimo and several players seem to be more comfortable in his system, opposed to Avery Johnson's.

11-20-12: These aren’t the same old Nets. Yet. Thus far the Nets have played good team basketball and sit in second place by only one game with a 6-2 record. Tonight they face a true test on the second game of their west coast trip, in LA. After the Laker game the Nets will then play the Warriors on the road before returning home to face Chris Paul and The Clippers at home Friday. Many have predicted this Nets team to finish in the top 3-4 seeds amongst eastern conference teams. Early injuries to Gerald Wallace and Marshon Brooks have prevented anyone from seeing the team’s true potential thus far. If the Nets can stay healthy, look for them to make some noise in the east.
