 Now Seeking Applications For

Director, Center for Tenth Amendment Action

Description:

The Foundation's Center for Tenth Amendment Action was founded in 2010 as a place for development and execution of policy and legal strategies for expanding the states' scope of action under the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. Though the Tenth Amendment properly reserves most exercises of government power to the states, the reality of the past century of the "progressive" era is that the federal government in Washington, D.C., has usurped tremendous authority that rightfully belongs closer to the people -- specifically, in their states and communities.

The Center's work is focused explicitly upon Texas, and its national engagement is mediated through the needs and experience of the Lone Star State. Its agenda is advanced primarily in the halls and chambers of the Texas State Capitol in Austin -- not Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

This candidate will be called upon to develop the Center’s goals and research agenda, conduct and supervise high quality research. He or she will be expected to liaise frequently with major media outlets, both statewide and national, on the Center’s issues. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to formulate policy recommendations for officeholders, especially in the Texas state legislature, and work with those officeholders to see them through.

Qualifications:

The Director of the Center for Tenth Amendment Action must be an extraordinary person with a keen drive to blaze new pathways in the fight to reclaim territory from Washington, D.C. He or she must have the following qualities:

  • A self-starter. This position is a leadership position, with minimal daily oversight and exceedingly high expectations. The person leading this fight must be willing and able to conceive and develop innovative ideas independently and often -- and bring them to fruition.
  • A media presence. Policy begins with persuasion, and in a sphere like this, the Director of this Center must possess a presence with the credibility and appeal to explain and defend them.
  • A writer. This Director must possess the aptitude for graceful prose that conveys complicated concepts convincingly.
  • A thinker. Specifically, the Director of this Center must be a legal thinker, preferably with a Juris Doctorate, able to grasp Constitutional law sufficient for solo authorship of amicus briefs to federal courts.
  • A veteran. The Director of this Center must bring to a table substantive experience in policymaking, legislation, law, and/or media -- and a proven record of accomplishment.
  • A leader. The Director must be willing to work with tact and persuasion to assemble a coalition of activists, thinkers, and citizens in several states to challenge Washington, D.C., overreach on several fronts.

The position’s salary will be commensurate with the experience, expertise, and skills of the Director who takes the position. Please send cover letter, resume, salary requirement, and references to:
