Chicago White Sox History

With a franchise history stretching all the way back to the last decade of the nineteenth century, the Chicago White Sox have long been an institution in the history of American baseball. Chicago White Sox tickets treated fans to the teams first American league pennant way back in 1901, although the team was known as the "White Stockings" until 1904, Chicago White Sox tickets have given fans access to the team that has so long been a favorite of area residents; to this day those lucky enough to hold Chicago White Sox tickets are able to witness history in the making with each game played. Learning more about the early history of the team can give you a greater appreciation for its history, legacy and the past achievements that continue to capture the imagination of today's fans. In mid 1920 the team was the center of, what was then, the biggest scandal of its history. The infamous "Eight Men Out" scandal rocked fans to their core as those accused of taking part in the scandal were banned from baseball for life. Chicago White Sox tickets become a less valuable commodity through the 50's as committed fans remained steadfast in their support despite the tougher times the team was faced with. Today fans of the team clamor to secure their Chicago White Sox tickets and watch as the team continues to delight and thrill with events like the third perfect game to be thrown in all of baseball history, a feat accomplished by Phillip Humber during the 2012 season.

U.S. Cellular Field and the Fans

The Field has been giving holders of Chicago White Sox tickets a chance to glimpse a little of the splendor and appeal that helped make the game what it is today. With a series of recent (and ongoing) renovations, U.S. Cellular Field has succeeded in attempts to keep up with new trends and technology, offering those with Chicago White Sox tickets the most comfortable environment possible to enjoy the game. Along with Southpaw, the team's mascot since 2004, there have been countless visitors and spectators who have delighted at the chance to see the team do what they do best. The small cost of purchase for Chicago White Sox tickets brings with it the chance for fans of the franchise to participate in the long and distinguished history of the team, the sport and the game itself, giving them the opportunity to experience firsthand the thrills and excitement that the team has been providing fans for over a century.

White Sox News

10-1-14: Underwhelming could be the best word to describe the White Sox 2014 season. They do deserve much credit for signing Cuban Jose Abreu to a six-year, $68 million deal in the offseason. Abreu went on to have a monster rookie season, and he should win AL Rookie of the Year honors. Besides Abreu and staff ace Chris Sale, the White Sox's season was boring. They were a non-factor in the AL Central and wild-card races throughout the whole season.

9-30-14: The Chicago White Sox are in a rebuilding mode right now and may have found one of their bullpen guys to build around in Jake Petricka. The 26 year old pitcher has been serving as the team’s closer in recent weeks converting 14 of 18 save opportunities. The White Sox are likely to pair Petricka with fellow right handed bullpen arm Zach Putnam in the future bullpen. Putnam has posted a 1.98 ERA in 54.2 innings while Petricka has posted a 2.88 ERA in 72 innings this season. Chicago also has starting pitcher Hector Noesi to build around next season as Noesi may have been one of the best waiver claims by any team during the 2014 season. Noesi was casted off by the Seattle Mariners after posting a 6.51 ERA with the team but rebounded in Chicago by posting a 4.39 ERA in 160 innings. Noesi is just 27 years old and still has three years left of team control for Chicago. Noesi may not fit into the future plans or be a top of the rotation type starter but he can eat innings and help keep some wear and tear off the Chicago bullpen and sometimes that is worth its weight in gold. Chicago finished the 2014 season with a 73-88 record and will not be in the 2014 postseason.

9-25-14: If there is a team that can play spoiler over the final week of the season, the White Sox are that team. They finish the year with series against the Tigers and Royals, two teams separated by just one game atop the AL Central standings. Chris Sale looks like a distant No. 2 candidate to Felix Hernandez at this point for AL Cy Young award. The lefty is currently 12-4 with a 2.20 ERA and 198 strikeouts in 168 innings of work this season.

9-23-14: The Chicago White Sox continue to look at their young players this month as the team continues to rebuild towards the 2015 season and beyond. When the White Sox traded long time second baseman Gordon Beckham to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim they essentially made room for the likes of Marcus Semien, Micah Johnson, and Carlos Sanchez. Johnson has since been shut down for the rest of the season with an injury. The White Sox end the week with a 71-84 record which leaves the team trailing the first place Detroit Tigers by 15 games and guarantees yet another losing season for the team and manager Robin Ventura. There doesn’t seem to be any indication that Ventura’s job is in jeopardy after another lackluster season but that could change after a long winter and offseason. Chicago is 6-4 in their last 10 games though so the team has shown a life in these last weeks of the 2014 season.

9-18-14: The White Sox put together a four game winning streak before losing Sunday to Minnesota. This matched their longest streak of the season, as they took series from the A’s and Twins at home. Chris Sale moved into the AL ERA lead with eight shutout innings his last time out, and he's now 12-3 with a 1.99 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 192 strikeouts in 163 innings of work. Felix Hernandez is still the clear favorite for AL Cy Young honors, but Sale is at least making it competitive.

9-16-14: The Chicago White Sox traded Adam Dunn to the Oakland Athletics two weeks ago and now have just $46 million in commitments for the 2015 season. These numbers are pre-arbitration numbers and they also assume that Paul Konerko will in fact retire rather than play for one more season. Chicago had a salary slightly above $90 million entering 2014 while in the middle of a rebuilding project so the White Sox have the potential to be big players in the free agent market this winter. Chicago will look to build around their core of LHP Chris Sale, first baseman Jose Abreu, LHP Jose Quintana, and center fielder Adam Eaton. The White Sox are using September to evaluate players like Marcus Semien and Carlos Sanchez and Sanchez has especially caught the eye of manager Robin Ventura. Top White Sox infield prospect Micah Johnson was expected to be in the mix as well this September but was ultimately shut down for the rest of the season with an injury.

9-12-14: Chicago was swept by the Cleveland Indians this past weekend and the Sox have split their first two games with the A’s this week. That puts White Sox at 19-29 since the All-Star break, and they are now just two games up on the Twins to avoid a last-place finish. Jose Abreu needs three more home runs to break the team's rookie record of 35 set by Ron Kittle back in 1983. He'll also reach 100 RBI’s with his next RBI. There's also a good chance he becomes the ninth player to win AL Rookie of the Year unanimously.

9-9-14: The Chicago White Sox selected and purchased the contracts of first baseman Andy Wilkins and southpaw Scott Snodgress as rosters expanded for September and in a corresponding roster move to replace the traded Adam Dunn. Wilkins hit 30 home runs this season while in Triple-A and will essentially replace Dunn in the lineup and on the roster. Chicago also considered calling up top pick Carlos Rodon to the major leagues in the same season the lefty was drafted but ultimately decided against the notion. The team and GM Rick Hahn announced that they did expect Rodon to come to spring training in 2015 and compete for a starting rotation spot. Rodon has the pure stuff to succeed in the major leagues right now but has struggled with his command a bit as evident by his 4.7 BB/9 in a little over 24 innings since being drafted this June.

9-4-14: The White Sox had the worst run differential in all of baseball in the month of August at minus-65. They had a 9-19 record in August and it left them just three games up on the Minnesota Twins for fourth place in the AL Central. They beat the aforementioned Twins Tuesday 6-3. The White Sox unloaded slugger Adam Dunn, trading him to the Oakland A's last week.

9-2-14: The Chicago White Sox are ready to sell and ended the month of August by sending outfielder Alejandro De Aza to the Baltimore Orioles for a pair of minor league pitchers. De Aza was batting .246/.312/.358 this season after clearing waivers earlier in the month. Surprisingly the White Sox did not get more since De Aza is under team control for the 2015 season as well as he enters his final season of arbitration eligibility. Chicago also unloaded DH and first baseman Adam Dunn before the deadline passed trading the lefty to the Oakland Athletics for players to be named later. The White Sox will have to eat roughly $1.3 million of Dunn’s salary to rid themselves of the soon to be retired Dunn. The Dodgers and San Francisco Giants were also said to be interested in Dunn’s services before he waived his no trade clause to head to Oakland.

8-27-14: It's been a rough month for the White Sox. They are 6-16 with an MLB-worst minus-62 run differential in August and have lost seven straight games. They are still clinging to fourth place in the AL Central by a game over the Minnesota Twins. Chicago finally cut ties with second baseman Gordon Beckham last week, trading him to the Angels. The former No. 8 pick in the 2008 draft has never lived up to expectations.

8-26-14: The Chicago White Sox sent longtime member Gordon Beckham to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim this week for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Beckham, 27, has hit only .221/.263/.336 this season with Chicago and is under team control for one more season. One player that hopes to be back with Chicago in 2015 is Matt Lindstrom who is a free agent after the 2014 season. Lindstrom has been a White Sox pitcher for the last two seasons but the right hander has spent much of the 2014 season on the disabled list with a tendon tear in his left ankle. The White Sox ended the week getting swept by the New York Yankees in Yankee Stadium and end the week with a 59-71 record in the AL Central.

8-20-14: First baseman Jose Abreu will win Rookie of the Year honors in the AL, while ace Chris Sale is the biggest competition for Felix Hernandez for the AL Cy Young. Other than those two bright spots, baseball on the Southside this season has been rather dull. Sox fans can look forward to the success of Sale and Abreu in the future season’s to come. They dropped game one to Baltimore Tuesday and they finish off the week with the New York Yankees.

8-19-14: The Chicago White Sox announced a flurry of roster moves this week including designating Charlie Leesman for assignment, activating Avisail Garcia, promoting Eric Surkamp, moved Moises Sierra to the disabled list, and moved Javy Guerra to the bereavement list. The White Sox are also having internal discussions regarding Carlos Rodon, the third overall pick in this year’s MLB First Year Players Draft, and whether to call him up when the rosters expand in September. All signs seem to point to Rodon being ready for the Major Leagues after spending his college years at NC State and all signs also point to Chicago being willing to be aggressive with their starting pitcher.

8-13-14: Jose Abreu has emerged not only as the AL Rookie of the Year front-runner, but also as an AL MVP candidate. Chris Sale looks like the biggest competition for Felix Hernandez among AL CY Young candidates. Strong seasons from Jose Quintana, Conor Gillaspie and Adam Eaton and the White Sox definitely have something to build around looking to 2015 and beyond. However, they have struggled mightily going 3-7 in their last 10 games played which has knocked them out of any playoff contention.

8-12-14: The Chicago White Sox originally thought that pitcher Avisail Garcia’s shoulder injury would end his season but the team may surprisingly get Garcia back this month. Garcia has worked his tail off and had an extremely aggressive rehab program and has almost worked his way back to the major leagues. This could give the White Sox another arm to throw at teams as the team continues to try and rebuild for the future. Chicago currently sits at 56-63 and is nine games back of the Detroit Tigers in the American League Central division. Chicago is 3-7 in their last 10 games and are still looking to unload veterans such as Dayan Viciedo, Gordon Beckham, and others in August revocable waivers trades.

8-6-14: Well, when Adam Dunn is on the mound in the ninth inning, you know the White Sox night was not going well. Chicago was thrashed 16-0 by the Rangers Tuesday night. The White Sox gave up 18 hits and five home runs. Starter Jon Danks was rocked for nine runs, five walks and eight hits, including four home runs, in 4 2/3 innings of work. The lefty now leads the American League with 23 homers allowed.

8-5-14: The Chicago White Sox made a smaller trade this week as they sent outfielder Blake Tekotte to the Arizona Diamondbacks for cash considerations. Tekotte is 27 years old and is a career minor league player and will presumably replace the recently traded Gerrardo Parra in Arizona. Chicago ultimately tried to trade a plethora of players, most notably John Danks, Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez, Alejandro De Aza, Gordon Beckham, and Matt Lindstrom but ultimately made zero trades in July to help the rebuilding project. The White Sox currently sport a 54-58 record and trail the first place Detroit Tigers by nine games in the division.

7-30-14: The Chicago White Sox have reportedly been talking with the New York Yankees and others about trading left handed starting pitcher John Danks. Danks is owed roughly $34 million through the 2016 season as he continues to try to battle back from a torn shoulder capsule in his throwing arm. If the White Sox could unload Danks and his salary they could go all in on their rebuilding project. Danks has a limited no trade clause written into his contract that allows him to block trades to the Baltimore Orioles, Oakland Athletics, Washington Nationals, and Toronto Blue Jays. Dayan Viciedo has also garnered some trade interest this week and may be on the move before the July 31st trading deadline comes to a close next week.

7-28-14: The White Sox will most likely miss the postseason for the sixth consecutive year, but first baseman Jose Abreu is on his way to an American League Rookie of the Year award. He hit his MLB-leading 30th home run on Friday in the White Sox’s 9-5 victory over the Minnesota Twins.

7-24-14: The Chicago White Sox didn’t have an answer for Mike Moustakas Tuesday night. Moustakas hit two home runs as the Royals beat the White Sox 7-1. Adam Dunn went 2 for 4 with a solo homer for the White Sox, who had won three out of four coming into Tuesday’s game. Starter Scott Carroll, who fell to 4-6 on the year, allowed five runs and 11 hits in five-plus innings of work. The White Sox are nine games back of Detroit in the AL Central.

7-21-14: The Chicago White Sox are stuck in a catch-22 at this trading deadline which could really complicate things for Chicago. The players the White Sox would be most willing to trade are not performing very well this season, most notably Gordon Beckham and Alejandro De Aza. The White Sox may in turn be forced to trade Alexei Ramirez, Dayan Viciedo, and Jon Danks to continue with the rebuild going on in Chicago. The White Sox started the week on the trade market trading Dylan Axelrod to the Cincinnati Reds for an unreported return. The White Sox wasted no time in replacing Axelrod by signing Chein-Ming Wang to a minor league deal and stashed him away in Triple-A.

7-19-14: On Friday, the White Sox defeated the Houston Astros, 3-2, to remain out of last place in the American League Central. Although Jose Quintana threw only five innings, he gave up just two runs and struck out eight batters. Daniel Webb then threw two scoreless innings and received the victory because the White Sox scored three unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

7-17-14: I think it’s fair to say that the White Sox have been a pleasant surprise in 2014. They are not contenders in the second half, but they could make a run at a .500 record, which would be a big step forward after losing 99 games one season ago. There's no question that the story of the first half has been Jose Abreu, who signed a six-year, $68 million deal after defecting from Cuba. With Masahiro Tanaka currently on the DL, he looks like a lock for AL Rookie of the Year honors and should challenge for the MLB home run title.

7-15-14: The Chicago White Sox should consider themselves a little lucky that they acquired Rookie of the Year candidate Jose Dariel Abreu and not teams like the Boston Red Sox. It was reported this week that teams like the Boston Red Sox were within a miniscule $5 million of the White Sox six year and $68 million offer sheet to Abreu. In fact many teams were right there in the discussion for the Cuban first basemen, although Boston had plans of using Abreu at third base. The White Sox got another deal done that many thought they wouldn’t as third overall pick Carlos Rodon finally signed to start his professional career. Rodon received the highest signing bonus in White Sox history when he signed a contract worth $6.582 million and that mark is also the largest in the draft this season. Rodon was thought to be the overall pick out of NC State before the Astros went with the now sketchy elbow of high school pitcher Brady Aiken.

7-14-14: The White Sox have encountered several small winning and losing streaks in July. Most recently, they dropped three consecutive road games. The first two of those losses occurred as a part of Chicago’s splitting of a four-game series with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. Although the White Sox dropped Thursday’s game, Jose Quintana set a new career-high for consecutive scoreless innings.

7-10-14: Conor Gillaspie hit a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the sixth inning for his third hit of the game as the Chicago White Sox beat the struggling Red Sox 8-3 on Tuesday night. He went 3 for 4 after going 4 for 29 in his previous nine games. The White Sox are 5-1 in their last six games played, allowing three runs or less in all six games with a scoring margin of 25-9. The fourth-place White Sox are 7 ½ games back of the AL Central leading Tigers.

7-7-14: Jose Abreu extended his hitting streak to 18 games, the longest current one in Major League Baseball, with his league-leading 27th home run on Friday. In that contest, Dayan Viciedo and Paul Konerko also slugged home runs as the White Sox beat the Seattle Mariners, 7-1. On Wednesday, Chicago won the final game of its three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels, 3-2.

7-3-14: Jose Abreu’s 26th home run in the first inning gave the White Sox and early 3-0 cushion in Game 1 of a doubleheader Tuesday. However, Garrett Richards, Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols were too much for Chicago as they dropped Game 1 8-4. The loss ended Chicago’s three-game winning streak. Game 2 wasn’t much difference for Chicago as the White Sox gave up seven runs on twelve hits in a 7-5 loss. With both losses Tuesday, the White Sox drop to the basement of the AL Central.

7-2-14: The Chicago White Sox have a little over two weeks to sign third overall pick Carlos Rodon before the July 18th deadline to sign draft picks comes and goes. The White Sox believe that Rodon could be in the starting rotation as soon as 2015 but the biggest obstacle to that is obviously getting the former NC State product signed and to get his professional career started. The White Sox are 39-44 at the halfway mark and currently in fourth place in the American League Central division. Alexei Ramirez is in second place in the American League All Star voting with one week to go before the rosters are announced.

6-30-14: The White Sox’s 11-game road trip is almost over, but they had a very tough time away from U.S. Cellular Field. Chicago split the first two contests of its four-game series with the Toronto Blue Jays, but the White Sox find themselves in last place of the American League Central. On the bright side, Jose Abreu continues to kill the baseball and is tied for the league lead in home runs.

6-26-14: Jose Quintana’s one run in seven innings of work, coupled with Gordon Beckham’s homer helped the White Sox end a five-game losing streak and defeat Baltimore 4-2 this past Tuesday night. Alexei Ramirez chipped in with two hits and scored twice for the last-place White Sox, who had lost nine of their previous 11 overall and eight straight on the road. Scott Carroll will get the nod on hill Thursday in Toronto. He replaces Andre Rienzo, who has been demoted to the bullpen after losing five straight starts and giving up 17 runs in his last three outings.

6-24-14: The Chicago White Sox knew they would have problems signing Carlos Rodon when they drafted him with the third overall pick in the 2014 MLB First Year Players Draft and as of this week they still have yet to reach an agreement. Rodon was considered to be the most polished and close to Major League ready of any starting pitcher in the draft and Chicago is disappointed that the beginning to his professional career is being delayed over money. Rodon is looking for over $6 million in salary even though his slot recommendation is only $5.72 million, although Chicago has saved enough money elsewhere to get slightly over $6 million.

6-18-14: Gordon Beckham’s and Dayan Viciendo’s two-run home runs, plus John Danks strong seven innings of work lifted the White Sox to an 8-2 victory over the MLB leading San Francisco Giants Tuesday night. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Chi Sox. The slumping White Sox had managed a total of just six runs in their previous four games, but busted through with 10 hits and eight runs Tuesday. Chicago is just 4 1/2 games back of Kansas City in the ultra tight AL Central.

6-17-14: The Chicago White Sox started the week by making a minor trade with the Oakland Athletics that saw pitcher Jake Sanchez head to Oakland for outfielder Michael Taylor. Taylor has major league experience and adds depth to Chicago for the cost of an A-Ball pitcher. The White Sox also welcomed Jose Dariel Abreu back to a struggling offense that is dead last in the American League Central division and have lost seven of their last 10 games. The White Sox did however sign their second through tenth round picks and saved an estimated $385.6K doing it. The savings are important as they try to entice Carlos Rodon to sign and now have $6,107,100 to offer the NC State left hander.

6-10-14: The Chicago White Sox announced that they would take the best available player in the draft regardless of signability issues, position, or age and they did that when they took Carlos Rodon from NC State. Rodon was slated to be the first overall pick before both the Miami Marlins and the Houston Astros passed on his due to signability issues. Rodon is said to be looking for a contract north of $6 million but the slot recommendation for the third overall pick is $5,721,500 making a deal look far from complete at this point. The team has exceeded expectations this season but announced that they would not make any deals at this year’s trading deadline that would hamper the future and the rebuilding project going on in Chicago. If the White Sox are not buying at this year’s trading deadline they may look to sell Alexei Ramirez and Gordon Beckham to bring back pieces for the build.

6-3-14: The Chicago White Sox are turning their attention to the MLB First Year Players Draft for this week and announced that they will take the best available player with the third overall pick in the draft. Chicago has stated they do not have a preference over high school or college players, positions, agents, or signing question marks and will simply take the best available player, the way it should be. The White Sox are close to getting Jose Dariel Abreu back from his injury and not a second too soon as they continue to slip farther and farther in the American League Central division.

5-28-14: The Chicago White Sox have designated relief pitcher and former closer Frank Francisco for assignment to make room for Chris Sale. Francisco has elected free agency instead of accepting a minor league assignment and will look for a major league deal elsewhere. Sale came off the disabled list and immediately shut down the New York Yankees for his fourth victory of the season and has yet to lose a game on the mound this season. The White Sox also released huge disappointment Jeff Keppinger after signing him to a three year deal before the 2014 season. Lost in the farewell tour for the Yankees Derek Jeter is the fact that sure fire Hall of Fame White Sox player Paul Konerko will also hang up his cleats after this season, not that Konerko seems to mind. Konerko has never been the type to want or need attention, and neither is Jeter, but it’s confusing as to why Konerko does not get nearly the amount of notably that Jeter is getting this season. Some of it might be the lack of playoff and World Series success for Konero and some of it may be that Konerko is now a part time player backing up the injured Jose Dariel Abreu and part time designated hitter and part time first basemen Adam Dunn.

5-21-14: The Chicago White Sox rookie slugger and early Rookie of the Year candidate Jose Dariel Abreu has landed on the 15 day DL with ankle tendinitis. The prognosis is just some inflammation for Abreu and he should be ready to come back when the 15 days are up. The White Sox activated center fielder Adam Eaton off the DL to take Abreu’s roster spot. This is a tough blow for the fourth place team in the American League Central since Abreu leads the team and the league in home runs and extra base hits. The White Sox are said to be interested in Cuban outfielder Daniel Carbonell which could add some speed and patience to the team.

5-15-14: It's that time of the year when there is a flurry of minor league roster moves and the Chicago White Sox are doing their part in the roster move frenzy outrighting recently designated for assignment Maikel Cleto and released pitcher David Purcey and infielder Alex Liddi from their minor league deals. The Liddi release makes sense as he has flirted with the Mendoza line for much of his minor league career but Purcey is only 32 years old and posted a 2.13 ERA with 8.2 K/9 just last season with the big league club. The White Sox are under the .500 mark after two weeks into the month of May but that is still good enough for second place in the American League Central division, which surprises everyone in baseball.

5-7-14: The Chicago White Sox have a legit Rookie of the Year candidate this year in Jose Dariel Abreu. Abreu had an impressive April and won Rookie of the Month for the American League. The rest of the team has not shared in his success as the team in under .500 through the first 30 games of the season and are in the middle of the pack in the American League Central division. The White Sox had originally planned on selling off players like Alexei Ramirez this July, 31 trading deadline but now may be forced to hold on to him and his salary to make a run at a division title or Wild Card berth. On the other hand the White Sox could use the return for Ramirez, Gordon Beckham, and others to speed up their rebuilding process.

4-28-14: The Chicago White Sox have gotten immediate dividends from their free agent signing of Jose Dariel Abreu as he has hit seven home runs in the first month of the season and filled in for the now part time player Paul Konerko at first base admirably. While Abreu was the team's only major signing or acquisition this offseason Chicago continues to acquire talent which was evident when they claimed Hector Noesi off of waivers from the Texas Rangers recently in an attempt to bolster their bullpen and Triple-A starting rotation and depth. The White Sox may not compete in the American League Central division in 2014 but they definitely plan on spoiling it for everyone else if they can with a young and hungry team. Vote for Abreu and all your favorite Chicago White Sox players and send them to the MLB All Star Game this summer as voting has opened up this week for the game.

4-21-14: The Chicago White Sox are holding down fourth place in the American League Central division with a record of 9–10. The White Sox currently ranked third in team slugging percentage and have scored the most runs in all of baseball. This week they will head to Detroit to face division rival tigers. John Danks will start for the White Sox in the series opener with an ERA of 3.32.

4-14-14: The South Siders earned a dramatic W at home on Sunday afternoon, as Alexei Ramirez took a John Axford pitch out to left field for a walk-off, two-run home run to give Chicago a 4-3 win over Cleveland. Ramirez picked up Matt Lindstrom, who gave up two runs of his own in the top of the 9th for his second blown save of the year already. The White Sox, who ranked 29th of 30 teams last year in runs scored, currently lead the league in that category with 80 runs scored through 13 games.

4-7-14: White Sox (3-3) ace Chris Sale already appears to be in midseason form, as the lanky lefty has allowed just three earned runs in over 15 innings in his two starts to begin the year. He’s also punched-out 14 while walking just two. He was exceptional on Sunday against Kansas City, shutting them out through eight stellar innings as the White Sox went on to win, 5-1. It was a performance sorely needed, as well, as Chicago had lost three straight prior to Sunday’s W.

4-1-14: Alejandro De Aza blasted a career-high 17 home runs in 2013, and he picked up right where he left off on the first day of the 2014 MLB season, hitting a pair of homers in helping the Chicago White Sox top the Minnesota Twins 5-3 on Monday. Chris Sale went 7.1 strong innings, allowing just three runs while striking out eight. Ricky Nolasco took the loss in his Minnesota debut, giving up five runs on 10 hits in six innings.

3-27-14: The Chicago White Sox started the last week of Spring Training by signing their ace Jose Quintana to a five year extension worth at least $21 million with the deal being contingent on Quintana's Super Two status after 2014, which could increase the deal to $26.5 million. The White Sox also announced this week that Rule 5 Draft pick Adrian Nieto, a backup catcher who was taken from the Washington Nationals organization, will make the Opening Day roster. The White Sox also claimed Javy Guerra off of waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers in hope of solidifying their bullpen for 2014. Guerra is still only 28 years old although it feels like so long ago that he was the closer for the Dodgers in 2011 with a 2.90 ERA in over 100 innings pitched. Now Guerra has fallen from grace after a rough 6.75 ERA in 2013 and looks to rebound with a change of scenery in Chicago in 2014.

3-20-14: The Chicago White Sox got dealt some bad news recently when they learned Gordan Beckham will be out at least a week with a left oblique strain. This has to come at the worst possible time for the White Sox as they look to trade Beckham, or some of their other infield depth, for a backup catcher. Oblique’s tend to be a lingering issue, especially for batters, so this could be a problem going forward for Chicago, especially if fellow trade bait Jeff Keppinger does not turn things around with the bat. The White Sox have a losing record in the Cactus League and saw their ace Jose Quintana get bombed recently in a game with the Oakland Athletics and couldn't get anybody out, literally. Quintana faced nine batters and retired none of them allowing nine earned runs on seven hits, two walks, and a home run before being pulled. This may be a long season for the White Sox and their fans but it will be a brutal sumer if Quintana pitches like that.

3-14-14: Upcoming White Sox Spring Training schedule and ticket info: March 15th vs Los Angeles Dodgers (AVG price $82), March 16th vs Texas Rangers (AVG price $42), March 17th vs Milwaukee Brewers (AVG price $34), March 18th vs Oakland Athletics (AVG price $47), and March 19th vs Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim (AVG price $47)

3-13-14: The Chicago White Sox biggest offseason acquisition was Jose Dariel Abreu, the big slugging first basemen that defected from Cuba this offseason. According to Bovada.com Chris Sale has the fifth best chance to win the American League Cy Young Award which is exciting for all White Sox fans. Chicago also acquired center fielder Adam Eaton from the Arizona Diamondbacks to have the every day job alongside Alejandro De Aza and Avisail Garcia. Gordan Beckham, Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez, and Jeff Keppinger have all been part of trade rumors this offseason as the White Sox search for a backup catcher. The White Sox will likely struggle again in 2014 but they will still have more than a few reasons to head out to the ballpark and watch a game or two this season.

3-12-14: The five most expensive home games of the White Sox 2014 regular season are: May 7th vs the Cubs, May 8th vs the Cubs, May 24th vs the Yankees (Sale Bobblehead giveaway), May 22nd vs the Yankees, and August 1st vs the Twins (Elvis Presley night with free post-game fireworks show).

3-11-14: Opening day starter Chris Sale pitched a solid two-hit 5 inning game vs the Brewers this past Monday. Sale struck out three during the campaign. Sale is a two time all star. Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke challenged a call to raise his Spring Training total to 5. Each of the 5 challenges were upheld by the umpires.

3-5-14: Chicago White Sox made a major score this off-season when they landed Cuban defect Jose a brave to play first base for them. The early returns on Abreu are raving as the White Sox general manager said that He is better than he expected. The White Sox also added relief pitcher Mitchell Boggs to a one year contract worth just over $1 million. Boggs spent last year in Colorado and May 27 appearances.

3-4-14: The owner of the White Sox and Bulls, Jerry Reinsdorf suffered a heartbreaking loss with the death of his son, David earlier this week. He was 51 years old. The Sox and Kansas City Royals offered a moment of silence in memoriam of David before their spring training game this past Monday.

2-26-14: Single-game Chicago White Sox tickets go on sale to the general public via WhiteSox.com on Friday, February 28th at 10:00 AM. However, the ticket offices at US Cellular will not be open. That will open on Saturday, March 1st and those offices are open from 10 AM to 6 PM on weekdays, and 10 AM to 4 PM every Saturday and Sunday.

1-24-14: After the emergence of Chris Sale and his dominant pitching the White Sox have to feel good about where they are heading from an organizational standpoint and is one of the reasons they extended manager Robin Ventura’s contract on a multiyear deal.

1-7-14: The Chicago White Sox made a huge splash when they signed Cuban defect Jose Abreu to a six-year deal worth $68 million. The White Sox are also feeling trade offers for Alejandro De aza. The newest member of the ballclub is left-handed pitchers Scott Downs who agreed to a one-year deal with 4 million with a 4.2 million Dollar club option for 2015.

12-9-13: Last season the Chicago White Sox finished in last place morning only 63 games and being outscored by their opponents by hundred and 25 runs. This comes as a disappointing surprise being that the Chicago White Sox have the ninth highest payroll in baseball at over $124 million. This off-season did possess some good news for the Chicago White Sox as they were the winners of the rights to Cuban defector Jose Abreu. I'll bring you is a 26-year-old first baseman with some serious power. The White Sox signed a bring you to a six-year deal with $60 million including a $10 million signing bonus.

8-20-13: The Chicago White Sox have won three games in a row but are beyond eliminated in terms of playoff contention. The White Sox are currently 23.5 games out of first place and have a winning percentage of just .398. This week the Chicago White Sox will travel to Kansas City to face the Royals. Starting pitcher Chrisdale is having a good year despite a not so good record of nine – 11. Sale has an ERA of just 2.78

8-6-13: The Chicago White Sox are in last place and recently just unloaded Jake Peavy to the Red Sox. At 27 games under .500 they virtually have no chance at making the playoffs. They opened up their 3-game series with the New York Yankees this week with an 8-1 win on Monday.

7-31-13: The White Sox, Tigers and Red Sox have pulled off a three-team, seven-player deal. In the deal, pitchers Jake Peavy and Brayan Villarreal (from Detroit) will go to Boston. Infielder Jose Iglesias goes to the Tigers. Minor league pitchers J.B. Wendelken, Francelis Montas, and infielder Cleuluis Rondon are headed to the White Sox.

7/18/13 - The last-place White Sox Are 37 – 53, 14 games out of first place. The White Sox are -60 in terms of run differential. Heading into the break the Chicago White Sox were losers of two in a row. When the season resumes on Friday the White Sox will be home to host the Atlanta Braves of the National League. Adam Dunn leads to team in terms ofpower numbers with 24 home runs and 60 RBIs. The White Sox ranked 29th in major-league baseball in terms of runs scored with 345. Starting pitcher Chris Dale has an ERA of 2.85 and was also selected to the American League All-Star team. Veteran pitcher Jake Peavy leads the team in wins with six.

7/7/13 - Two White Sox pitchers are 2013 American League All-Stars. Reliever Jesse Crain with his impressive 0.74 ERA will be making his first appearance, and starter Chris Sale will make his second appearance.

6/12/13 - The fourth-place Chicago White Sox have won three games in a row. After winning two out of three versus the Oakland A's, The White Sox will play the Toronto Blue Jays this week. After finishing with the Blue Jays the White Sox will then go on a 10 Game Rd. trip. On the road this year the White Sox Have played to a tune of just 12-21. Jake Peavy has been a disappointment in the American League and has an ERA of 4.30. Adam Dunn leads the team and homeruns with 17 but his batting just .185.
