A 22-year-old Virginia man pleaded guilty to stealing three pairs of sunglasses and faces up to 20 years in prison.

Tyler Dean Williams confessed to a felony shoplifting charge for stealing some $600 worth of designer shades, according to Williamsburg-James City County Assistant Commonwealth Attorney Michael Gaten, the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily reported.

The charge carries a maximum penalty of 20 years and a $2,500 fine.

Williams and his brother were trying on sunglasses at the store in October, Gaten said this week. An employee later noticed the merchandise was missing and called police.

Williams and his brother were later picked up and Williams admitted to taking two pairs of Ray Ban sunglasses and one pair of Oakley shades. The brother said he didn't know about the shoplifting and offered to pay for the stolen merchandise.
