DC Stands with Texas Tar Sands Blockade

Today a few dozen DC activists added their voices to the ongoing fight agains the Keystone XL Pipeline.
In support of the Tar Sands Blockade Tree Sitters, we brought a big ugly pipeline to the American Petroleum Institute headquarters in DC and called for clean energy and an end to the pipeline project.
Tar Sands Blockade is a coalition of Texas and Oklahoma landowners and climate justice organizers using peaceful and sustained civil disobedience to stop the construction of the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline. The Tar Sands Blockade is the continuation of Tar Sands Action, one of the biggest environmental actions in US history that took place last year at the White House.
Over the past couple of weeks the Tars Sands Blockade has been slowing down the building of the Keystone XL Pipeline in Texas. This group of courageous activists have been putting their bodies on the line. Their direct action campaign to halt Keystone XL continues to grow as they launch even more actions to halt the construction.
Tar Sands Blockade has successfully held the tree blockade for three weeks despite renewed agression. One activist was arrested after defending a family farm and delaying Keystone XL construction for most of a day. Another was arrested for sitting on a 40-foot pole and blocking clear-cutting operations for two days. Actress and activist Daryl Hannah was arrested with landowner Eleanor Fairchild while defending Fairchild Farms from Keystone XL construction.
Today we made sure that API knows these actions are not going without notice - even across the country in DC.
