Hempstead Student Does the Right Thing
Posted on 11/07/2014
Hempstead Student Does the Right Thing    On Sunday, October 26, Pedro Garza did the right thing and became a hero by simply doing what he was taught to do by his mother, Maria Garza.
While cleaning a table at the McDonalds where he works on FM 1488 in Hempstead, Pedro found a woman's clutch purse and pouch.  Inside the purse was $7,000 cash and the pouch held over $30,000 worth of jewlery, including a lady's wedding ring.  The couple, traveling from out of state to visit their son who is stationed at Fort Hood were overjoyed when they heard that the items had been found, along with all the contents.
On Friday, October 31, McDonald's owner Dan Carmichael, along with Hempstead Mayor Michael Wolfe, proudly congratulated Pedro for "doing the right thing" by turning in the items.  Carmichael presented Pedro with a diploma and Ronald McDonald toy while the family gave him a $500 cash reward.  Mayor Wolfe also commended Pedro's mother Maria for teaching her child the right thing to do.  Pictured are (l-r) Maria Garza, Dan Carmichael, Pedro Garza, and Mayor Micheel Wolfe.
Hempstead ISD is proud of Pedro for "Doing the Right Thing" and for setting a great example for others.
