    Hempstead ISD participates in the School Breakfast Program and National School Lunch Program and offers students nutritionally balanced meals daily.  Free and reduced-price meals are available based on financial need.  Forms are available on the website for download or may be obtained in the school offices.  The district follows the federal and state guidelines regarding foods of minimal nutritional value being served or sold on school premises during the school day.

    The district has  partnered with Chartwells Food Service Management Company to provide cafeteria/food services.  Chartwells has a zero tolerance policy for meal accounts.  Students in a status of Regular or Reduced Payer will not be allowed to charge meals.  Both cafeterias will follow a no charge process during the collection of money towards an account.
    The School Lunch Program is operated in accordance with U.S. Department of Agriculture policy which does not permit discrimination because of race, color, sex, age, handicap, or national origin. Any person who believes that he or she has been discriminated against in any U.S.D.A. activity should write to the Secretary of Agriculture, Washington, D.C. 20250
