Objections Process and Timeframe

The objection filing period opened January 1, 2014 and closed February 14, 2014. The Forest Service is currently in the objection review process. The Reviewing Officer, Regional Forester Cal Joyner issued a written response to the objections on June 13, 2014. Additional information on the objection process follows:

June 2, 2014

ARIZONA — The Southwestern Region is completing the review of objections received on the proposed Rosemont Copper Mine Final Environmental Impact Statement and will release Regional Forester Cal Joyner’s responses to objectors early next week.

May 23, 2014

The Coronado National Forest is requesting the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to reinitiate formal consultation for the Rosemont Copper project. Consultation is required under the Endangered Species Act to ensure that the effects of a proposed project on listed species are avoided or minimized.

ARIZONA — In light of the extensive review of issues raised during the objection process for the Rosemont Copper Mine Project Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS), Regional Forester Cal Joyner has determined it necessary to delay his response to the objections filed with the Forest Service.
