CARY Celebrates 15th Year Anniversary!

On September 10 at Green Pastures Restaurant, former and current board members, donors and other supporters of CARY celebrated the accomplishments  of CARY over the first 15 years.

CARY is pleased to report that with support totaling $5 million, it has served 6,500 students in the past 15 years.  Adrian L. Moore, Founder and Executive Director thanked past and present board members, funders and staff.   Former board chairs Jim Bryce, Bob King, Joan Hilgers, and Terry Cowan, and current chair Stan Knee talked about their time in leadership of the organization.

Government officials representing Travis County, City of Austin, Texas House of Representatives and the Texas Senate presented proclamations. CARY was recognized by the Travis County Commissioners Court and resolved that “on the occasion of its 15th anniversary serving the youth and families of Travis County and do hereby proclaim September 2014- August 2015 as ‘CARY YOUTH VIOLENCE PREVENTION YEAR’ in Travis County”.

One of the highlights of the luncheon was a presentation by Jason Wang, successful businessman who could have benefited from CARY.  He spent part of his youth in the juvenile justice system in Texas.  He used the time and resources afforded him to get his education, which led to his current success.

We would like to thank some generous folks who sponsored the event: Kathy Bennett, BMC Software, Joan Hilgers, The Inviting Pear, Dee Leekha Insurance Agency, LCRA Employees’ United Charities, and Texas AFT.Green Pastures Stock Photo
