Overview of the Process-Police Officer and Police Officer Recruit
Read through the various test descriptions below for an overview of the hiring process.

Written Examination
The purpose of this test if for measuring the ability to learn police information, observation and memory, verbal and reading comprehension, situational judgment, and problem solving. There is no study guide given for this test.

Physical Agility Test
We utilize the Coopers Physical Fitness Assessment. Each of the measurements below is the minimum for meeting our requirements:
  • 1.5 Mile Run - under 16 minutes
  • 300 Meter Run – under 72 seconds

  • One Minute Push Ups – 23
  • One Minute Sit Ups – 29

 

The Next Steps for Sworn and Nonsworn Applicants
Steps beyond these include:
  • Interview with background investigator
  • Background investigation
  • Polygraph examination
  • Oral Board
  • Psychological examination
  • Medical examination / drug screen

Communications Officer Hiring Process
• CritiCall and SELECT Test at DENCO 911 Testing Center.
• Interview with Background Investigator
• Background Investigation
• Polygraph Examination
• Oral Board
• Psychological Examination
• Medical Examination / Drug Screen
• The process takes approximately four to six weeks, depending on your rank on the eligibility list and factors in your background.
• You may re-apply after one year if you fail the psychological examination. Any other disqualification will result in a minimum disqualification of one year or possible permanent disqualification. 
 
Detention Officer Hiring Process
• Written Examination 
• Interview with Background Investigator
• Background Investigation
• Polygraph Examination
• Oral Board
• Psychological Examination
• Medical Examination / Drug Screen
• The process takes approximately four to six weeks, depending on your rank on the eligibility list and factors in your background.
• You may re-apply after one year if you fail the psychological examination. Any other disqualification will result in a minimum disqualification of one year or possible permanent disqualification.
