Fire Prevention
Mission Statement
The Flower Mound Fire Department Fire Prevention Office mission is to prevent and reduce the incidence of fire by increasing the awareness and knowledge of residents and businesses and by respecting fire safety and ensuring compliance with the International Fire Code. This mission is accomplished through fire prevention education, fire investigations, and compliance inspections. It is the Fire Prevention Office goal to keep Flower Mound a safe place in which to live, work, visit, and raise a family.

Building a Safe Community
The Fire Prevention Office sits on the Town’s Development Review Committee, which reviews all new development in Flower Mound. By participating in this committee, the Fire Prevention Office is able to provide input into building a safer community. The Fire Prevention Division is responsible for conducting a regular fire inspection program of all public buildings to improve public safety. This office strives to combat the crime of arson and unlawful burning.

Fire prevention and safety education remains a constant goal. The Fire Prevention Office seeks to make residents aware of the dangers of fire and conducts a viable fire safety program with the school system and other interested parties. The Fire Prevention Office communicates openly with the public, business community, and fellow fire and law enforcement agencies about fire prevention and safety education.

Fire Inspections
Many fires can be prevented through fire inspections and code enforcement. Fire inspections are performed by certified fire inspectors on a predetermined schedule. The International Fire Code serves as the required compliance code along with other building and safety regulations. Other inspection responsibilities include inspecting for certificate of occupancy inspections, issuing operational permits, plan review for construction, and fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems.

Fire Investigations
Fire investigation serves as another mechanism employed by the Fire Prevention Office to prevent fires. By determining the cause and origin of a fire, the Fire Prevention Office can better educate and protect the public from the dangers of fire and possibly prevent repeat occurrences through public education. If a fire is determined to be suspicious or a result of arson, a full investigation is completed by certified fire scene investigators. Any information concerning suspicious fires should be reported to the Flower Mound Fire Prevention Office by calling 972.874.6270. After normal business hours, call 972.539.0525.

Fire Prevention and Safety Education
The best way to reduce the damages of a fire is to prevent it from ever happening. Fire prevention and life safety education is one way to accomplish this. Organized safety training and classes are performed by the Flower Mound Safety and Fire Education (SAFE) Team each year at all of the Flower Mound elementary schools. The SAFE Team consisting of Flower Mound firefighters, educates approximately 10,000 children each school year, and performs educational skits with clowns, characters, visual aids, hands on practice, puppets and robotics.

The Flower Mound Fire Department hosts an annual Open House each October where the citizens are encouraged to bring their families and meet their local firefighters and tour the fire stations. Also at the Open House, there are several interactive activities for residents. Children have the opportunity to spray water through a fire hose to extinguish an actual fire which is controlled by firefighters, families can tour the fire safety trailer which is capable of conducting smoke house training and severe weather simulation, and the Fire Prevention Office conducts fire extinguisher training for the business community.
