Five Olympic champions will take part in next month’s Track World Cup in London – but Sir Bradley Wiggins will not be among them.

Wiggins, who won the Tour de France and Olympic road time-trial gold in 2012, plans to target the team pursuit on the track at the 2016 Rio Games.

The four-times Olympic champion won Commonwealth Games silver with England in the event in July before claiming the road world time-trial title in September.

The 34-year-old suggested the London World Cup, which takes place from 5-7 December, would be a target at September’s Tour of Britain, but he is now unlikely to be seen in competitive action at the velodrome until 2015.

Laura Trott, Phil Hindes, Jason Kenny, Steve Burke and Joanna Rowsell are selected, returning to the scenes of their Olympic triumphs in 2012, but Ed Clancy, unusually, is a non-travelling reserve.

Clancy is ordinarily the first name on the teamsheet for the men’s endurance squad, but will only travel to the Lee Valley VeloPark (formerly the Olympic Velodrome) if there is illness or injury to another member of the group.

The British Cycling technical director, Shane Sutton, said: “The home round of the World Cup series is a competition the whole team looks forward to and the fact that this event is taking place in the Lee Valley VeloPark makes this event extra special for us.

“The crowd support during London 2012 was phenomenal and gave the team a huge lift so hopefully the public will get behind us once again and support us on our journey to Rio.”
