The England rugby league team is in damage control mode after video footage emerged of a player trashing a Dunedin student flat.

A clip posted on YouTube shows hooker Josh Hodgson crashing through a closed interior door of a flat to chants of “go through the door” from partygoers.

England lost to New Zealand 16-14 in the Four Nations match on Saturday at Forsyth Barr Stadium. After the match, some England players met students and went back to a party at a flat.

Two videos have emerged of the party, with Hodgson running at a door and destroying it.

England team manager Jon Roberts says the incident is being dealt with internally and the person involved will be disciplined. “On behalf of Rugby League England we would like to apologise for the behaviour, and we’ve arranged for full repair of the small damage that occurred last night,” Roberts said.

Earlier in the week the players were reported to have been unimpressed with drunk students at the Wingatui races. Hooker Daryl Clark told the Daily Star he had never seen as many drunk people in his life. Students have been celebrating the end of the academic year in Dunedin, a city dominated by Otago University.
