Sam Burgess looks set to make his European Champions Cup debut for Bath on Friday night.

The former rugby league star has been retained among Bath’s replacements for the trip to face Montpellier.

Burgess made his union bow as a centre six days ago, coming on as a second-half substitute during Bath’s 25-6 Premiership victory over Harlequins and is poised for a first taste of European action as they look to bounce back from successive Champions Cup defeats against Glasgow and Toulouse.

Bath are strengthened by the returning England backs George Ford and Anthony Watson in their starting lineup, while the international forwards Rob Webber, David Wilson and Dave Attwood join Burgess on bench duty.
