Jim Dwyer
Fred R. Conrad/The New York Times
Jim Dwyer began writing the About New York column in April 2007. He has spent most of his professional life covering New York as a reporter, columnist and author. He joined the Times in May 2001 after stints at the Daily News, New York Newsday and several papers in northern New Jersey.
In addition to his work on daily newspapers, he is the author or co-author of six books, including, most recently, “More Awesome Than Money,” the true story of four boys and their quest to save the world from a Facebook monopoly. Earlier this year, he published “False Conviction: Innocence, Guilt and Science,” an interactive book. Using video, animations and demonstrations, “False Conviction” explores the science of getting things wrong in everyday life, and how that becomes errors in the criminal justice system. The book was produced by the New York Hall of Science.
He is also the author, with Kevin Flynn, an editor at The Times, of “102 Minutes: The Unforgettable Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers.” It was a finalist for the 2005 National Book Award.
Born and raised in the city, Jim is the son of Irish immigrants. For the last 34 years, he has lived in Washington Heights with his family.
