Vikings, Cardinals to be without running backs for Sunday's games

The Vikings and Cardinals will have to rely on someone else to play in the backfield after both teams announced their running backs won't be playing Sunday.

The Vikings will be without rookie Jerick McKinnon, who leads the team with 538 yards and no touchdowns, against the Jets. McKinnon has a lower-back problem and will miss his second straight game. In his place, the team has Matt Asiata, Joe Banyard and Ben Tate.

The Cardinals won't have Andre Ellington against the Chiefs. Ellington sustained a hip pointer in last Sunday's loss to the Falcons and has been dealing with other injuries all season. He has 660 yards and three touchdowns this season. In his place, the Cardinals will have to rely on Stepfan Taylor and rookie Marion Grice.

The Vikings will also likely be without linebacker Anthony Barr, who leads the team in tackles (99), fumble recoveries (3) and forced fumbles (2). Barr hurt his left knee at Chicago on Nov. 16. He played through the injury until it became too painful at halftime last Sunday against Carolina.

The Cardinals also have listed wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald as questionable. He's battling a bruised left knee that has limited him in practice and has caused him to miss the previous two games.
