The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering has a long, distinguished history at Cornell. Civil Engineering was one of the original fields of study offered when Cornell opened in 1868. In the century and a half since then, the School has grown and developed along with the field, adding the Environmental focus and always adapting to the changing needs of the world around us. Our faculty has always represented the best the field has to offer – engineers and scholars of the highest caliber, internationally recognized for their research and the quality of instruction they offer.

Faculty and student research is focused on three main concentrations of study: Civil Infrastructure, Environment and Engineering Systems and Management.
