U.S. Steel Tubular Products Inc., a subsidiary of Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corp., announced Thursday it has awarded Range Resources President and CEO Jeffrey Ventura its Chief Roughneck Award for 2014.

The award was created in 1955 to honor lifetime achievements of petroleum industry leaders.

Ventura joined Range in 2003 as chief operating officer, became director in 2005 and was appointed CEO in 2012.

"Under Jeff's leadership, Range Resources shares many of the same values we have at United States Steel. A commitment to protecting the environment, operating safely and engaging the communities where they operate are admirable qualities for any company," U.S. Steel Senior Vice President of Tubular Business David Rintoul said in a statement. "Jeff has an unwavering commitment to the nation's energy industry. His perseverance and dedication led Range Resources to pioneer drilling in the Marcellus Shale, the largest natural gas field in the United States. Jeff is a true visionary, which makes him a perfect choice for the 2014 Chief Roughneck Award."
