JANUARY PERMITS TO DRILL
The Commission issued a total of 1,484 original drilling permits in January 2011 compared to 1,147 in January 2010. The January total included 1,319 permits to drill new oil and gas wells, 33 to re-enter existing well bores, and 132 for re-completions. Permits issued in January 2011 included 447 oil, 148 gas, 825 oil and gas, 59 injection, zero service and five other permits.
DECEMBER CRUDE OIL PRODUCTION
Texas preliminary December 2010 crude oil production averaged 942,114 barrels daily, up from the 892,585 barrels daily average of December 2009.
The preliminary Texas crude oil production figure for December 2010 is 29,205,524 barrels, up from 27,670,153 barrels reported during December 2009.
JANUARY OIL AND GAS COMPLETIONS
In January 2011, operators reported 368 oil, 286 gas, 27 injection and zero other completions compared to 347 oil, 388 gas, 30 injection and two other completions during January 2010.
Total well completions for 2011 year to date are 681 down from 765 recorded during the same period in 2010.
Operators reported 600 holes plugged and two dry holes in January 2011 compared to 342 holes plugged and one dry hole in January 2010.
DECEMBER NATURAL GAS PRODUCTION
Texas oil and gas wells produced 559,443,990 Mcf (thousand cubic feet) of gas based upon preliminary production figures for December 2010 down from the December 2009 preliminary gas production total of 579,199,147.
Texas production in December 2010 came from 136,330 oil wells and 88,804 gas wells.
