The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra announced Thursday that resident conductor Fawzi Haimor will depart at the end of the 2014-15 season.

Mr. Haimor started as an assistant conductor with the PSO in 2012 and became resident conductor this season. This year, he will guest-conduct orchestras in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.

As resident conductor, Mr. Haimor — who was born in Chicago and raised in the Middle East and the San Francisco area — conducts classical, pops, education and outreach concerts. He studied at the University of California at Davis and Indiana University.

The PSO’s other resident conductor, Lawrence Loh, will also leave at the end of the season to become music director for Symphoria, an orchestra in Syracuse, N.Y. Searches to replace both conductors will take place in the coming months.
