STOP VIOLENCE AND HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLE AROUND MINING AREA IN WEST MANGGARAI, MANGGARAI, AND EAST MANGGARAI OF EAST NUSA TENGGARA PROVINCE

On September 13, 2014, there has been violence committed by the unit Sabhara Police of Ruteng and military personnel from the District Military Command 1612 Ruteng on Lingko Roga community, Tumbak sub-village, Satar Punda village, Lamba Leda sub-district, East Manggarai regency. The violence was triggered by the company's efforts, namely PT. Aditya Earth Mining to bring heavy equipment for drilling into customary land owned by the residents (Lingko Roga). The effort got a rejection from residents who have done a posse to maintain their Lingko since September 11, 2013.

JAKARTA, 23 September 2014 - The coalition of civil society environmental organizations and social movements assess jargon “world maritime hub and sea highways” that often echoed by elected-President, Joko Widodo, in practice will be vulnerable to deviated and misguided if it is not preceded by real action to restore the environment and ensure the rights of local communities and small-scale fishermen on the management of marine and coastal areas. Thus shared viewpoint which presented by a number of activists representing the Legal Aid Foundation, Walhi, Kiara, Jatam, Change.org and Greenpeace, in a press conference held at the Secretariat of the Legal Aid Foundation, Jakarta (23/09).
