Video Streaming Suggestions

Video streaming typically requires the use of media plugins. While the necessary plugins will often come pre-installed, you may need to install or enable plugins to watch streaming video. We recommend installing the Adobe Flash Player and Microsoft Silverlight plugins if they are available for your system.

While we recommend certain platforms and web browsers, many other operating systems and web browsers can successfully stream videos. For example, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome are both known to work on many platforms. Please note that not all features are available to all web browsers on all platforms.

Recommended Platforms:
  • Microsoft Windows, version XP SP2 or newer, Vista, 7, or 8
    • Recommended browser: Microsoft Internet Explorer, version 8 or newer
  • Mac OS X, version 10.5 or newer
    • Recommended browser: Apple Safari, version 5 or newer.
  • iOS, version 4.2.1 or newer
  • Android, versions 4.1 and 4.2
    • Recommended browser: Google Chrome
    • For Android version 4.0 and older, on-demand video is supported on many devices. Live streaming is only supported if the Flash plugin is installed.

Please Note: Android has a very rapidly changing ecosystem. As new devices and operating systems are released, we are committed to addressing any issues within 60 days.

Beta and pre-release versions of operating systems and web browsers are not supported.

House Video/Audio Services

The Texas House of Representatives has more than 40 committees and sub-committees that meet in public hearings. It is the goal of House Video/Audio Services to provide live broadcasts/web-casts of every meeting, but we are only capable of providing live broadcasts/web-casts of 8 public hearings simultaneously. Therefore, when more than 8 committees are meeting at the same time, some will not be broadcast/web-cast.

However, all House committee clerks are responsible for recording audio of every public hearing. You may listen to these recordings in CD or cassette format in the House Communications, Video/Audio Services office, located in the John H. Reagan Building at 105 West 15th Street, Room 330, Austin, TX. (Just North of the State Capitol) Copies of the audio recordings may be purchased for a fee. For more information, call (512) 463-0920. You may send your signed Open Records Request letter via fax at (512) 463-5729 or mail to the Texas House of Representatives, c/o Video/Audio Services, P. O. Box 2910, Austin, TX 78701.

Also please note: Video/audio programming is produced by the Texas House of Representatives. Chapter 306, Government Code, prohibits the use of video or audio materials produced by the House of Representatives in any political advertising. Violators may be subject to a civil penalty up to $5,000 for each violation. Complete House Video/Audio Policy
