How can I pay for Vimeo Plus? #

We gladly accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and PayPal.

What happens to my old account when I upgrade? #

Everything will stay exactly the same except you will have the added benefits and features of Vimeo Plus. You will receive 5GB of uploading space per week which will reset each week on the day you became a Plus member. You will also see a fancy new badge next to your portrait!

How do I customize my embedded videos with the advanced options available for Plus accounts? #

From your video page click on the 'Settings' button under the video and then select the 'Embed' tab and customize the player as you like. There is a helpful sidebar that explains the different customization options:

Vimeo Plus gives you complete control over every aspect of the embedded video player. When you make changes, you can save your settings as presets so you can use those settings again for other videos. Remember, the settings you choose will dictate how this video will appear when other users embed it.

Intro: You have the choice to show or hide your portrait, title, and/or byline when the video first loads. You can also control whether other users who are embedding your videos can show or hide these elements, as well.

Outro: When your video ends you can choose to display one of these elements:

  • Videos: display the latest 3 videos from your videos, likes, channels, groups, or albums.
  • These three videos: choose any 3 videos
  • Text: write your own outro text, with basic HTML allowed
  • A link: display a link to another site
  • Nothing: show a black screen at the end of your video

Everything else: Use the settings to completely customize the embedded video player. Leaving everything checked will enable the standard player available to everyone, but as a Vimeo Plus member you can customize it to your liking. Remember, you can always preview your changes to make sure the player looks exactly the way you want it to.

What happens if I change the custom embed options of a video? Does that affect videos that are currently embedded? #

Yes, any time you change the custom embed options for a particular video, that will also change the embed settings wherever that video is already embedded. This is a great way to point people to your latest videos or your website.

Can I embed my HD video outside of Vimeo? #

Yes! As a Plus member, you can embed your own videos in HD. If you like, you can also disable your videos from being embedded in HD. This option is located on the 'Embed' tab within your video settings page.

I purchased Vimeo Plus, are all my HD videos now embeddable in HD? #

Yes. Go forth and conquer.

What happens to all my HD videos that are already embedded on other websites? #

Those videos will now be playable in HD. You can manage your HD embed plays at any time in your video settings.

Can I keep my videos from appearing on Vimeo? #

Yes, as a Plus member, you can hide your videos from Vimeo.com by going to the video page and clicking the 'Settings' button located under the video. From there, click the 'Privacy' tab and select 'Hide this video from Vimeo.com.' Don't forget to save your changes!

This allows you to embed your video on outside websites, but have it hidden completely on Vimeo.com.

I only want people to see my videos on my site, is this possible? #

Yes. If you only want your video embedded on your site you can use domain-level privacy. To set it up, go to any video settings page and click the 'Privacy' tab, then choose the 'Only on sites I choose' option under 'Where can this video be embedded?' Then add the domain names for the sites where you'd like your video to be embedded such as your website URL, Facebook.com or Twitter.com.

If I replace my current videos, will the video be converted to the higher-quality conversion available to Plus members? #

Yes, if you replace one of your current videos with a newer version, it will be converted to the higher quality conversion available to Plus members. Please remember that using the 'replace' function will still use your weekly quota unless you're replacing a video within the same quota week you uploaded it.

Will you go back and convert all my older videos to the higher quality conversion? #

We're sorry, but we just don't have the resources to re-process the back catalog of every Plus user's videos. That would create an unacceptably long conversion queue for everyone on Vimeo. However, you can always upgrade videos to the highest quality possible under the 'Advanced' tab in your video's settings.

Where can I see a receipt or purchase history for Plus? #

You can see a receipt or review your purchase history at any time from your account settings located in the Navigation bar at the top of any page. Hover over 'Me' and then select 'My Settings.' From there, scroll down to 'Purchases' where you can review the history of everything you've purchased from Vimeo, including the date and time you originally signed up for Vimeo Plus.

How do I change my auto-renew for Plus? #

If you'd like to opt out of automatically renewing your Plus account, just follow the instructions here: vimeo.com/store/optout.

Can I renew my Plus account before the auto-renew date? #
Absolutely! Just log in to your Plus account and head to vimeo.com/cart/plus and click “Place Order.” Your new subscription will kick in automatically once your current subscription ends.

How do I manage a Vimeo Plus account purchased through liveBooks? #
If you sign up for Vimeo Plus through liveBooks (livebooks.com), you will receive an email containing detailed instructions for setting up your Vimeo Plus account soon after your purchase. Once you have set up your Vimeo Plus account, it should remain active and renew automatically for the duration of your liveBooks membership. Do I have to pay tax on my Vimeo purchases? #

That depends on where you are! We collect US sales tax in New York and Virginia.

VAT (value-added tax) will be applied to purchases made in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.

I have a VAT ID. Can I use it for a Vimeo purchase? #

You sure can. Just head to the Vimeo Store and select which subscription plan you'd like, then continue to the checkout page.

In the "Billing Location" section, select your country. Once you've made your selection, you'll see a link below "Choose your payment method" that says "Have VAT ID?"

Click that link and enter your VAT ID. Once your ID has been verified, VAT will be automatically removed from your purchase price. Just like magic!

I've already made my purchase and didn't include my VAT ID, what do I do? #

Can I upload more than one video at a time? #

Yes! You can upload up to 5 files at a time as long as they don't exceed your weekly upload quota.

How many videos can I upload? #

You can upload up to 5 videos at a time as long as they don't exceed your weekly upload quota.

Basic account users can upload 500 MB a week (with a max of 10 files per day). Plus users can upload 5 GB per week, and there is no per-day upload limit.

This quota resets weekly, and your personal reset day can be seen on the right side of the Upload Page, along with how much space you have remaining this week. Videos that you upload remain on the site, so you can upload 500 MB of videos this week, and another 500 MB next week, and they'll all be there for the watchin'.

Are there limits on file sizes or file types for uploads? #

Basic members have a weekly upload limit of 500MB, and can upload video files up to 500MB each. Plus members have a weekly upload limit of 5GB, and can upload files up to 5GB each.

Keep in mind that there are a million variables in video compression. Sometimes, even though a file type is accepted by the Vimeo uploader, the Vimeo conversion will fail. Follow our Compression Guidelines to make sure your video will upload successfully and look its best.

What is compression? Should I compress my videos before uploading them? #

Compressing a video reduces the file size. While it can take time to compress a video, it will result in a faster upload, and also a faster download for anyone you choose to share the original file with. We strongly recommend you compress your videos before uploading them to Vimeo. That way you'll be able to upload more videos!

Please see our Compression Guidelines for the best advice on compressing your videos.

How do I compress my video? #

Please take a look at our handy Compression Guidelines for the best advice on how to compress your video.

Can I ever access/download the original video file I uploaded? #
File storage is expensive!

You can really help us out by not storing your original source files on Vimeo. Remember, we convert all your uploaded files to industry standard, compatible formats that are often just as good as your source files, and those will always be available to download.

If you have a Plus or PRO account and do choose to store your source files, they will be available for as long as you remain a Plus or PRO member, and for 30 days after your subscription expires.

If you have a Basic account, your original source files are stored for one week from the upload date, after which they are removed. After one week you will still be able to download the converted file (in MP4 format).

Plus and PRO users can opt in to having their original source files stored with no time restrictions. Go to 'Me' in the top navigation menu and click My Settings, then go to the 'Videos' tab. Check the box that says 'Keep my source video files.'

How do I download the source file? All I get is a new window with the video playing. #

To download a video, go to the clip page of the video you'd like to download and click the 'Download' button that appears below the video. Choose the version of the video you'd like to download and right click on the link.

If you're a Windows user, right-click on the link and choose 'Save as' or 'Save target as.'

If you're a Mac user, hold down the control key and click the link, then choose 'Save link as' or 'Download linked file.'

If you tried to click on the link and your browser started to load and play the video instead of downloading, try right-clicking the download link and choosing the 'Save as,' 'Save target as,' 'Save link as,' or 'Download linked file' option.

Are there limits on downloading original video files? #

We feel that it's important to allow users to download the original, uploaded video file, as long as the owner of the video allows it. We provide this feature so that you can see the video exactly as the videomaker intended it to be seen. However, we also have to guard against over-use of this feature. By being cautious with our bandwidth costs, we will be able to provide the Vimeo you know and love for years to come; hopefully until your great-grandkids log on to watch your videos!

Each original video file on Vimeo can be downloaded a maximum of 100 times per day. Please note that users with Basic accounts can make their original source file available for up to one week from the upload date. After that time only the converted, MP4, version of the video will be downloadable. Plus users always have the ability to download their original source files and make them available for download, as long as they've opted into storing their original source files.

Just to be totally clear here, we're talking about the video file that you uploaded, which can be downloaded from the 'Download' button under your video. This restriction is not related to the streaming video you watch in the Vimeo player.

I want to use a video I saw on Vimeo. Do I need permission? #

Yes, it's always a good idea to contact the video maker if you want to use a video. Our members retain copyright of their works, and it's up to them what type of use they choose to allow.

Someone is using a video I uploaded to Vimeo without my permission. What do I do? #

You can submit a formal DMCA take down notice from our DMCA page.

Can I replace a video and keep the comments, plays, likes, tags etc? #

Yup, you sure can!

From your video page, click the Settings button under the video. Then, navigate to the Video File tab and click "Replace this video." This allows you to upload a new video file while keeping the video URL, comments, Stats, Likes, tags, and all the other information associated with the video.

During the replacement process, the original video will remain viewable while the new one is uploaded. Once the replacement video finishes uploading and begins conversion, the original video will no longer be viewable, and will soon be replaced.

How do I add Flickr photos to my video page? #

Go to your video page and click the 'Settings' button that appears under the video. From there, select the 'Advanced' tab and click '+ Add a new photo.' Paste the URLs for the Flickr or Picasa videos you'd like to add, separating URLs by commas and then click the 'Add' button. Make sure your photos are public before you add them here, or else they won't show up!.

Why can't I play a video on Vimeo? #

Make sure you have installed the newest version of Adobe Flash Player. You also need to have javascript enabled on your browser to load the player. If the video still won't play, check the Help forum to see if we are experiencing technical difficulties.

You can see which version of Flash you're using and update to the most current version at our Flash version checker.

How do I delete a video? #

Go to the video's individual page and click 'x Delete' on the bottom right below your video. You'll be prompted to enter your account password to confirm. Better be sure! Once it's gone, it's gone.

If you delete a video you've uploaded within your current quota week, you'll regain that space for the week.

How do I edit my video's settings? #

Go to your video's individual page where you read the comments and watch the video. Click the 'Settings' button that appears under your video. From there you'll be able to change the information for that video.

How do I change the description of my video? #

Go to your video's individual page where you read the comments and watch the video. Click the 'Settings' button that appears under your video. From there you'll be able to edit all sorts of info, including the description.

How do I change the title of my video? #

Go to your video's individual page where you read the comments and watch the video. Click the 'Settings' button that appears under your video. From there you'll be able to edit all sorts of info, including the title.

How do I see the stats on my video? #

Go to the video's individual page where you read the comments and watch the video. Click on the 'Stats' button under your video.

You can also see the stats of multiple videos at once. Hover over 'Me' in the top navigation menu, then 'My Stats', and click '+ View your full total stats.'.

What is the difference between "loads" and "plays" #

Every time the Vimeo video page or webpage loads the embedded player, the loads count increases.

Plays, on the other hand, are only counted when someone actually clicks the play button to view your video.

How do I change the preview image (thumbnail) on my video? #

Some people call these poster frames or preview images, we call them thumbnails.

To change your thumbnail, go to the video's individual page and click on the "Settings" button that appears under the video. From there, scroll down to "Thumbnails."

You've got three options for picking your perfect image:

  • Clicking the "Choose" icon will allow you to scroll through the entirety of your video to select a specific frame. When you find the image you like, click it to select it and then click "Use this frame."
  • We'll generate eight thumbnails for you when you click the "Random" icon. If you don't see anything you like, just click "See more options" and we'll cook up eight new images for you to peruse. Once you find the frame you like, click "Use this thumbnail."
  • Want to upload your own thumbnail image? Go for it! Clicking the "Upload" icon will allow you to chose a JPG, GIF, or PNG file from your computer. We recommend uploading an image with the same resolution as your video for optimal awesomeness.

Can I customize my video link? #

Yes, on your video page, click the 'Settings' button that appears below the video. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and enter your preferred Custom URL. Now your links can have some context wherever you share them.

If you haven't set up your custom profile URL yet, you can do so in your Profile Settings.

Why can't I share my video on Facebook? #

If you're trying to share your video on Facebook but it's appearing as password protected or otherwise unplayable, this issue is caused by Facebook storing the URL's information from the first time it was added to their system.

To fix this, follow these steps:

  1. From your video's page click the "Settings" button.
  2. Select the "Advanced" tab and enter a custom URL.
  3. Click the "Save Changes" button to do just that.
  4. Paste your new custom URL into the Facebook share box.

If your video still won't embed properly on Facebook, try using Facebook's link debugger.

Can I edit my videos once they are uploaded? #

All of your fancy edits will need to be made in your video editing software before you upload your file to Vimeo. Of course, if you ever go back and re-edit your videos, you can swap out the old version for the new one using our replace feature.

You can also add Hollywood-style Looks and Music Store tracks to your videos right here on Vimeo with the Enhancer.

Why can't I see some people's videos? #

Some people choose to make their videos private. Find out more about our privacy settings in the Privacy section of our FAQ.

How do I add my people to the credits of my video? #

Go to the video's individual page where you read the comments and watch the video and click the 'Settings' button that appears below the video. Scroll down to 'Credits' and click '+ Add or remove credits.' Search for the Vimeo user you'd like to add to the credits by their user name or email address and click on their portrait to add them. Once they've been added you can set a role by clicking 'Set Role' under their portrait. It feels good to give credit where it's due, doesn't it?

Why is video playback so choppy? #

If your video playback isn’t smooth like butter, here are some things you can try:

  • Try letting the video buffer before you view it.
  • Close other browser tabs and windows. This can make a huge difference!
  • Make sure you have either the latest version of Flash running on your computer, or use a browser with native HTML5 support.
  • Switch to another browser to see if that helps.

What is video buffering, and how do I do it? #

Buffering is a way of preloading the videos you watch so that fluctuations in your Internet connection don't cause choppy playback.

When you play a video, a light gray bar will advance in front of the playhead, showing you how much of your video has been buffered. Your playback should be smooth like butter as long as you're viewing your video within the light gray buffer region.

If you're experiencing choppy playback, pause the video, allow the video to buffer for a few moments, then try playing your video again!

What is the maximum video file size and length? #

Your video can be as long as you like. The only limit is your file size. If you have a basic account, you are limited to 500 MB per week. However if you upgrade to Plus, you get 5 gigs of upload space per week, with a limit of 5GB per file.

To find out more about Vimeo Plus go to vimeo.com/plus.

What does “Scaling On” mean? #

This means the video is being stretched to fit your screen in full screen mode. If you click the 'Scaling off' button in the player, you will see the actual size of the video, without any enlargement.

Can I create chapters for different parts of my video? #

Kind of. We have a timestamp feature that allows you to link to different times in a video from the description. To timestamp a video, put the specific time of the video you would like to link to. For example, writing 2:32 in the description, will send a viewer to the 2 minute, 32 second mark after the video loads. You may add as many timestamps as you please.

How do I make mobile versions of my videos? #

Plus and PRO members can make mobile versions of their videos two ways.

  1. Go to My Settings and select the "Videos" tab. From there check the box next to "Make my videos compatible with mobile devices" and click the "Save as default" button. Check "Also, apply to existing videos" to do just that.
  2. If you own an iPhone, iPod Touch, or Android device, you can go to our mobile site (vimeo.com/m) and make mobile versions of your videos. After logging in, select "My Videos" then the "Generate Mobile Videos."'

Once you choose to make mobile versions of your videos every new video you upload will get a mobile version and all of your existing videos will be queued up to be converted. Depending on the size of your collection, this could take some time to generate.

Can I loop a video? #

Sure can! To loop a video, right click on the player and click 'Turn Loop ON.' Looping a video will make the video repeat without having to push play over and over and over and over and over. Well, you get the idea.

Does Vimeo support closed captioning? #

Vimeo does not currently support the use of separate closed captioning text files. If you want any kind of text to appear in your video, including closed captioning, it needs to be added to the actual video, like any other graphics.

We hope to have time to develop proper support for closed captioning soon.

What is Creative Commons? #

The idea underlying Creative Commons is that some people may not want to exercise all of the intellectual property rights the law affords them. We believe there is an unmet demand for an easy yet reliable way to tell the world “Some rights reserved” or even “No rights reserved.” Many people have long since concluded that all-out copyright doesn't help them gain the exposure and widespread distribution they want. Many entrepreneurs and artists prefer to rely on innovative business models rather than full-fledged copyright to secure a return on their creative investment. Still others get fulfillment from contributing to and participating in an intellectual commons.

For whatever reasons, it is clear that many citizens of the Internet want to share their work — and the power to reuse, modify, and distribute their work — with others on generous terms. Creative Commons intends to help people express this preference for sharing by offering the world a set of licenses on our Website, at no charge.

Learn more about Creative Commons here!

How do I add Creative Commons licensing for my videos? #

If you want to apply a Creative Commons license to your videos, simply go to your video page and click the 'Settings' button that appears under your video. Click the tab labeled 'Videos' and under 'Which Creative Commons license for your videos?' select the type of Creative Commons license you want to apply to your video.

Do I have to put Creative Commons licenses on my videos? #

No, you don't have to add Creative Commons licensing to your videos, but it is a great way to share and collaborate with others. Some Vimeans want to share their work — and the power to reuse, modify, and distribute their work — with others on generous terms. Creative Commons intends to help people express this preference for sharing by offering the world a set of licenses.

What do the different Creative Commons licenses mean? #

Attribution – You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your copyrighted work — and derivative works based upon it — but only if they give credit the way you request.

Share Alike – You allow others to distribute derivative works only under a license identical to the license that governs your work.

Non-Commercial – You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform your work — and derivative works based upon it — but for non-commercial purposes only.

No Derivative Works – You let others copy, distribute, display, and perform only verbatim copies of your work, not derivative works based upon it.

You can also choose different combinations of these licenses. For more in-depth information including license deeds and legal codes, please visit the Creative Commons about page.

Can I search by Creative Commons licenses? #

Yes! Enter your search term in the search bar on the top right of any page. From your search results, click the 'Show Advanced Filters' button that appears to the right. Select a Creative Commons license under the License drop down menu and your search results will automatically update.

This will help you easily find videos that you can use for projects and collaborations!

Can I trust the Creative Commons license applied to each video? #

We give users the option to apply Creative Commons licenses to their own videos. While our Terms of Service prohibits users from uploading infringing content, we cannot guarantee that every user who uploads a video and applies a Creative Commons to it has all of the rights necessary to do so.

If the user does not possess all of the necessary rights in a video (or any content within the video), then the Creative Commons license will not be effective in regard to that content. Therefore, we suggest you exercise caution in using Creative Commons-licensed materials. You may want to send a private message to a user who has uploaded Creative Commons-licensed materials to learn more about the licensed content.

If you have reason to believe that a user has uploaded infringing content (e.g., a popular TV show or film), we encourage you to flag the video so a Vimeo moderator can review it.

How do I put licenses on all my awesome videos at once? #

You can apply a license to all of your videos at once from your Global Video Settings. Select your preferred license and click the "Save as default" button. Check "Also, apply to existing videos" to do just that.

What do the different privacy settings do? #

Vimeo respects your videos and your right to decide who watches them. Privacy options allow you to upload videos and choose who can see them. To access the privacy settings of your video, click the "Settings" button under your video on the video page, then click the "Privacy" tab.

You can select from the following privacy options to determine who can see your video:

  • Anyone - Allow anyone to see this video.
  • Only me - Make this video visible to me and no one else
  • Only people I follow - Make my videos visible only to people I follow on Vimeo
  • Only people I choose - I'll select people with whom I want to share this video (Note: this setting will only work for sharing with other Vimeo members)
  • Only people with a password Protect this video with a password (Note: you can share password protected videos with non-Vimeo members)
  • Hide this video from Vimeo.com (Plus + PRO only) - I want to post this video on the web but don't want it to be available on Vimeo.com. (This will hide your video on Vimeo.com and remove it from public Albums, Channels, and Groups.)

You can select from the following privacy options for video embedding:

  • Anywhere - Enable people to embed this video on any site
  • Nowhere - Do not allow anyone to embed this video
  • Only on sites I choose (Plus + PRO only) - I'll specify sites on which people can embed this video

You can select from the following privacy options to determine who can comment on your video:

  • Anyone – Allow anyone to leave comments on this video
  • No one – Do not allow anyone to comment on this video
  • Only people I follow – I want only people I follow to be able to leave comments

PRO members can also create Video Review Pages (PRO only) - semi-private, unlisted video pages intended for sharing with clients, collaborators, internal use, or anyone else you want to share your video with. These pages are unbranded and accept anonymous comments, so even people who don’t have Vimeo accounts can leave feedback. Video Review Pages are automatically created whenever you upload a video, and can be accessed via a link under the video on your video page and in the video settings under the "Privacy" tab.

Can I share or embed private videos? #

If you choose the "Only me" privacy option, you will not be able to share your video, but you can absolutely share your password-protected videos! To access the different sharing options, click the "Share" button that appears when you hover your mouse over the video player. As with a public video, you can copy and paste a direct link, share the a link via social networks, and/or embed the video elsewhere (just make sure you provide the password to your intended viewers).

You can also use the "Share" window to share your password-protected videos via email. If you choose this option, we will automatically send the password to your chosen recipients.

If you are a PRO member, you can use Video Review Pages to share your videos.

Can I share lots of private videos all at once? #

Yes, you can set many videos to any privacy setting and then share them with Private Albums.

No, private videos will not show up in search results on Vimeo or in other search engine results.

Why would I make my videos private? #

You should make your videos private if you don't want the whole world to see them. You may want to keep a video private so you can get feedback on it or just share it with your close friends. Privacy options are available so you can have complete control over who sees your videos.

Can I change the privacy settings at any time? #

Of course! To access the privacy settings of your video, go to your video page and click the 'Settings' button under the video. Then select the 'Privacy' tab to access your video's privacy settings.

You can also change your privacy settings on all your videos at once in your Global Video Settings.

How do I stop users from downloading my videos? #

If you don't want your videos to be downloaded by others, click the 'Settings' button under your video on the video page, then click the 'Privacy' tab. From there, uncheck the box next to 'Download the video.'

How do I change the privacy on all my videos at once? #

Global Video Settings allow you to apply privacy preferences to all of your existing videos and set preferences for future uploads. Go to your profile and click the "Settings" button. Choose the "Videos" tab and make your choices! Then click the "Save as default" button. Check "Also, apply to existing videos" to do just that.

What happens when I add a private video to a public Group or Channel? #

The privacy settings of a Group or Channel will always override the privacy settings for your individual video.

For example, a private video added to a Channel will be accessible to anyone who views it through that Channel. The same holds true when you add a private video to public Groups.

What happens when I add a private video to an Album? #

That depends on the privacy settings of your Album!

Putting a private video in a public album does not make the video public. Only you (and anyone else with access to the video) will be able to see the video within the Album.

If you add a private video to a password-protected Album, anyone with the password to the Album will be able to watch any private videos within it, without having to enter any additional passwords. This method is great if you want to share groups of private videos with your friends and family.

What are tags? #

Tags are keywords or terms that describe your video. For example, if you tag your Hawaii vacation video with the words 'Hawaii' and 'vacation' you'll be able to easily find other related videos and it makes it easier for other Vimeo users to find your videos. Everybody wins!

Is there a limit on the number of tags I can add to a video? #

You can use up to 20 tags for each video. We encourage you to add only relevant tags as too many tags can make your video harder to find.

Why should I tag my videos? #

Tagging your videos makes it easier for other Vimeo users to find them in searches and on tag pages. This way, folks can find your videos that interest them more easily.

If you have just recently uploaded a new video, or just recently made it public, it may take a little while to show up in our search results. If your videos do not appear in search results after a day, try adding more relevant terms to the description or title of your video, that will help.

Unfortunately special characters will not work in your tags.

Can I follow a tag? #

You betcha! Visit vimeo.com/tag:XXXX (where XXXX is your tag term) and click the follow button. Then, every video with that tag will show up in your feed. It's kinda like magic!

What does embedding mean? #

Embedding allows you to take your video - or someone else's video - and post it on a web page outside of Vimeo. For example, you can embed a video on your blog and then people can watch your video there without having to visit Vimeo.

How do I embed a video on another site? #

Go to the video's page and click the "Share" button that appears when you hover your mouse over the video player. In the window that opens, you'll see a field containing embed code for the video. Just copy the code and paste it into your website or blogging software.

How do I customize the appearance of embedded videos? #

Basic accounts allow for some customization of player size, text colors, and numerous other features. To make changes, go to the video you'd like to embed and click the "Share" button. Then click the "+ Show options" link that appears above the embed code field. Once you've made your changes, copy the new embed code.

Vimeo Plus and Vimeo PRO members enjoy complete control over their embedded player, including options to choose what gets displayed after your video finishes playing, and even what specific sites your video can appear on! All of this can be managed on the "Embed" tab of each video's "Settings" page.

How do I customize my embedded videos with the advanced options available for Plus and PRO accounts? #

From your video page click on the "Settings" button under the video and then select the "Embed" tab and customize the player as you like. There is a helpful sidebar that explains the different customization options:

Vimeo Plus and PRO give you complete control over every aspect of the embedded video player.

  • These three videos: choose any 3 videos*
  • Text: write your own outro text, with basic HTML allowed
  • A link: display a link to another site
  • Nothing: show a black screen at the end of your video

*For PRO members, these options will only appear if you have the Community Pass turned on.

Everything else: Use the settings to completely customize the embedded video player. Leaving everything checked will enable the standard player available to everyone, but as a Vimeo Plus or PRO member you can customize it to your liking. Remember, you can always preview your changes to make sure the player looks exactly the way you want it to.

How do I set videos to autoplay or loop when I embed them? #

Go to the video you'd like to embed and click the "Share" button. Then click the "+ Show options" link that appears above the embed code and check the boxes to either loop the video, autoplay, or both.

Please note that autoplay and/or loop will not work on most mobile devices.

Can I make my embedded videos default to HD? #

Plus and PRO users have the option to not only embed their videos in HD, but also to default those videos to be viewed in HD. This is a sweet way to make sure that your crisp HD videos are seen in their full resolution glory when they're embedded off of Vimeo.

If you'd like all of your videos to default to HD, just go to your account settings and select the "Videos" tab. Under "What about source files, mobile, and HD embedding?" select "Always play my videos in HD, when possible" and then click the "Save as default" button. Check "Also, apply to existing videos" to do just that.

Otherwise, if you have a specific video you want to default to HD mode click the "Settings" button that appears below the video on your video clip page and then select the "Embed" tab. Check the box next to "Default this video to HD quality when embedded" and click the "Save Changes" button.

Why isn't embedding allowed on some videos? #

Vimeo Plus and Vimeo PRO users have the power to disable embedding in their privacy settings.

How do I embed my video in WordPress? #

You can use our iFrame embed code to embed your videos in WordPress.

What about all the old embed codes out there? #

You'll need to replace your old embed code with our new one if you'd like it to be compatible with more devices. Every time a piece of old embed code is upgraded to new embed code, an angel gets its wings!

How can I get the old embed code? #

The old Vimeo embed code is no longer available. But trust us: The new embed code is way better, and plays nicer with many different browsers and devices.

Can I create custom settings for all my embedded videos? #

Yes, you can create embed presets to easily apply the same custom embed settings to all of your videos.

To create an embed preset go to one of your videos and click the "Settings" button that appears below the video. From there, go to the "Embed" tab and once you've customized the embed settings to your liking click the "+ Create new preset from these settings" button. Name your new preset and click "Save preset." From now on you can apply this preset to any video by going to the video's settings, clicking the "Embed" tab and selecting the preset from the drop-down menu under "Presets."

To apply a preset to all your videos, go to your Global Video Settings and select your preset from the drop-down menu under "Choose embed preset to apply to your videos" then click the "Save as default" button. Check "Also, apply to existing videos" to do just that. Easy peasy!

Plus and PRO members can create mobile versions of their videos from their Global Video Settings.

Will my embedded videos use the HTML5 player? #

Can I embed my video on an HTTPS domain? #

We are currently beta testing HTTPS support for embeds. When copying the embed code into your site, simply edit the embed code to change the HTTP part of the URL to HTTPS.

Please note that when using domain level privacy, both the domain and embed must be either HTTP or HTTPS. If they are mismatched (ex. embed is HTTPS while domain is HTTP) the embed will not work.

Do I have to have a Vimeo profile? #

Yes, every user has a profile on Vimeo. We recommend that you customize it by uploading a picture (portrait) and maybe telling us a thing or two about yourself. We have a very friendly community here, so we encourage you to share!

How do I edit my profile? #

You can get to your Profile Settings in a couple different ways. To get started, either click the Settings button below your portrait on your profile page, or hover your mouse over Me in the top navigation bar. From there, click My Settings, then the Profile tab.

From the Profile tab you can upload and edit a portrait, add a bio, set your location, customize your profile url, and add links to your Tumblr, Flickr, Twitter, etc. You can also choose up to three of your videos to feature on your profile page.

Once you've finished updating your information, make sure to click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

What should I write in the 'Bio' section? #

Anything you want! Share something about yourself, tell us why you use Vimeo. What kind of videos do you like to watch or make? What kind of camera do you use? How many cats do you have? This is an area to write a little about yourself and your interests. Many users also like to link to their blogs or other personal websites.

What is that weird smiley face icon and how do I upload a picture of my own? #

That happy face is the default portrait that shows up on your profile until you add your own. We encourage you to replace this image with your own portrait to personalize your profile.

To add your portrait, click on the Settings button from your profile, then select the Profile tab. You'll see two options within the Portrait section allowing you to either upload an existing image from your hard drive, or use your computer's web cam to take a new photo. If you choose to upload a pre-existing image, please make sure it is a JPG, GIF, or PNG file. Images sized to 300x300 pixels are best, because they won't need to be cropped.

You can upload several different portraits and choose one as your primary picture. If you'd like to delete a portrait, simply hover over it and click on the red X in the top right corner. If you only have one portrait uploaded, you'll need to upload a new one before you can delete the existing portrait.

Can I edit my portrait once it has been uploaded to Vimeo? #

You sure can! Our portrait editor allows you to apply sexy filters to your images right here on Vimeo.

To start editing, head to your Profile Settings page, hover over your portrait, and click on the blue pencil icon in the upper right hand corner. As you toggle between our nine filters, keep in mind that you can adjust the intensity of each one by clicking the little gear icon. Once you've perfected your image, click Save Portrait.

Your edited portrait will now appear alongside the original version. Select it, click Save Changes, and bask in your newfound radness!

Once you've selected your Featured Videos, be sure to click Save Changes, and you're good to go!

Why do I get so many emails from Vimeo? #

Vimeo sends you emails so you can stay up to date with what's happening on Vimeo! If someone comments on your video, or adds you as a contact, we send you an email so you know. Yes! Go to your Channel page and click the 'Settings' button. From there choose the tab labeled 'Videos' and select the way you'd like to arrange your videos in the drop down menu next to 'Always arrange by.' If you choose to arrange your videos manually, you can drag and drop up to 100 videos in the order you'd like. As always, don't forget to 'Save Changes!'

What is the difference between a Group and a Channel? #

A Group is a mini-community within Vimeo that allows people to interact and share with each other. A Channel is user-curated destination to watch videos.

The main difference between the two is that a Group is intended for users to collaborate, share, and discuss videos with other members, while a Channel is intended as a destination to watch videos. We recommend exploring both features before deciding which is best for you. Explore Channels and Groups.

Can I change the name of my Channel? #

Absolutely! To change the name of your Channel, click the 'Settings' button on your Channel page and enter your new Channel Title. Make sure to click 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the page.

How do I customize my Channel and make it look all snazzy? #

To change the theme and logo of your Channel, click 'Settings' on your Channel page. From there select the 'Appearance' tab and snazz away!

How do I find Channels I may want to follow? #

You can search for Channels by using the search box at the top of your screen. We also recommend visiting the Channels homepage for featured Channels on Vimeo and links to categories of different Channels.

How do I stop following a Channel? #

If you want to stop following a Channel, go to that Channel and click the 'x Unfollow' button.

How do I delete my Channel? #

If you'd like to delete your Channel, go to your Channel homepage and click 'Settings.' Select the 'Advanced' tab and click the 'Delete this channel' button.

Why can't I add videos to a Channel? #

If you aren't able to add a video to a Channel, it's likely that the owner of the video chose not to allow their video to be added to any Albums, Channels, or Groups. If you think it's an absolute perfect fit for your Channel, you can always try sending the owner a nice message requesting they allow that video to be added to a Channel.

Can I create a custom URL for my Channel? #

Yes. Click the 'Settings' button on your Channel and enter your desired custom URL in the Shortcut URL field. Save your changes, then take your new custom URL for a spin.

What if I add private videos to a Channel? #

If you add a private video to a Channel, that video will become public within that Channel only. The private video will always retain its privacy outside of the Channel, but adding it to a public Channel means you are giving permission for that video to be viewed in the Channel you add it to.

How does Channel Privacy work? #

You can choose who can view your Channel by clicking the 'Settings' button and then 'Membership' tab. You can select from the following privacy options:

  • Anyone - everyone in the whole world can view your channel.
  • Only moderators — only the moderators you have added to your channel can view that channel.
  • Only moderators and the people I choose — pretty much what it says. You can add people to share your Channel with by clicking the '+Add or remove people' link below these options.

Note: Setting your Channel privacy to anything other than "Everybody" will remove all current subscribers who are not moderators or people you have specifically chosen.

What is the difference between a Channel and my profile? #

Your Channel is a place to collect and showcase videos you upload or find on Vimeo. Your profile is your home base. People will go to your profile to see what you look like, your bio, and any other information you feel like sharing about yourself, whereas your Channel is a video watching destination that you've created.

Why do some Channels look different than others? #

Vimeo lets you change the theme, layout, and logo of your Channel. To change yours, click the 'Settings' button on your Channel page and select 'Appearance.'

What is the Shout Box? #

The Shout Box is a way for other Vimeo users to send you a quick message that will show up on your Channel. You can use the Shout Box to leave a nice comment on someone's Channel, or to let them know about a video that would be perfect for their Channel.

What are Categories? #

Categories are an ever-changing, broad catalog of Vimeo's great content and active communities. Explore Categories to find the videos you like and connect with the people who make them.

How do videos get added to Categories? #

Vimeo Categories are populated automatically using your Channels and Groups. If you moderate a Channel or Group you can choose up to two top-level Categories from the settings tab. Our algorithm will look at videos you've selected and include them in the Category pool, favoring videos, users, and tags that are most active and representative of that Category.

How many Categories can I add my Channels and Groups to? #

Your Channels and Groups can be added to up to two Categories each. If applicable a Vimeo Staff moderator may add your Group or Channel to additional Categories.

I just signed up for Vimeo and purchased Plus. How long will it take for my stats to show up? #

Stats will be available your second day on Vimeo. You should take your first day and explore the site. If you need an idea or some inspiration for uploading your first video, check out our Vimeo Projects!

What is considered a play? #

A play is registered anytime someone pushes the play button on Vimeo or wherever the video is embedded.

What is the difference between a load and a play? #

A load is counted each time the video player loads on any page, either on Vimeo.com or wherever a video is embedded on another website. A play is counted each time someone pushes the play button on a video on Vimeo or embedded elsewhere.

Why can't I see where my video is embedded? #

Only Plus members are able to see exactly where their videos are embedded outside of Vimeo.com. If you're a Basic user, you will need to upgrade your account to Plus to see where your videos are being embedded. Learn more about Plus!

Why are some views being counted from an Unknown place? #

When we record a view or play from a classified location or unknown country code, we count it towards your total under "Unknown."

What is that graph on the homepage? #

The graph on your homepage shows the trends for your videos within the past week. Green represents plays, red represents likes, and blue represents comments.

Why do some points on my Stats graph pulsate? #

These are the high points of your statistics. By clicking these points, you'll see a snapshot of your top five video clips for the data field you're sorting by.

How accurate are Stats? #

Pretty darn good. On occasion there might be a reporting delay, but don't fret, we're always keeping careful records and we assure you that our stats are accurate.

Can I export my Stats? #

You sure can. At the bottom of any Advanced Stats page there's an option to export your data in CSV, XML, and tab delimited formats.

Why do I need the Advanced Stats offered with Plus and PRO? #

Would you like to know how many times your videos were viewed since signing up for Vimeo? Would you like to know what percentage of people who click play, watch to the end? How about the number of people in Finland who watched your latest Five Vignettes?

We give you in-depth statistics about where your videos are being embedded, who your top likers are, overviews for different time periods and much much more. You need Advanced Stats because you need to know!

Why do I not have stats for certain data elements? #

Some of your data may have only recently begun to be recorded by our systems so we can't provide information prior to the that time.

Why do some of my videos have negative likes? #

When someone gives a like, then for whatever reason clicks again to unlike a video, we count this and it shows up as a negative like.

How do I hide my video statistics? #
To hide your video statistics from the public, navigate to your account settings page by clicking the 'Settings' button from your profile page. Click on the 'Advanced' tab and check the option under 'Site Preferences' that says 'I prefer not to share my video statistics with other people.'

Where do I see Stats for my Creator Services videos? #

For a quick glance at your Vimeo On Demand (VOD) and Tip Jar Stats, head to vimeo.com/stats and scroll down below your Weekly Overview.

If you use both VOD and Tip Jar, you'll see an "On Demand Stats at a glance" section, as well as a "Tip Jar Stats at a glance" section. If you only use one of these services, you will only see that section, because DUH! :)

We offer a member block feature for this specific purpose. You can learn all about it in the Member Block section of our FAQ.

Another user is annoying me, what should I do? #

Most of time, negative online behavior goes away if ignored. But if you can't ignore it, try to open a civil dialog with the user. If that method doesn't work, you can block a member, or let a member of the Vimeo Staff know and we'll try to resolve the matter as quickly as we can.

I keep receiving messages or shared videos from users I don't know, how do I stop that from happening? #

Please send that user a message asking them nicely to refrain from sharing videos or sending messages to you. If they continue to share videos or send messages, you can block them on Vimeo or contact the Support Staff.

What is a like? #

A like is quick and friendly way to let a video creator know that you appreciate, like, heart, or maybe even love their video.

How do I like a video? #

Just hover your mouse over the video player screen, and click the heart icon in the top right corner. A large heart will fade in and out very quickly signifying that your like has been registered. It's as simple as that. Go ahead and try it, it feels pretty nifty!

How do I unlike a video? #

Click on the heart logo in the top right hand corner of the video again and your like will be undone.

Where can I see all the videos I have liked? #

Hover over 'Videos' in the top navigation bar, then click 'My Likes'. There you can view every video you've ever liked on Vimeo. We bet there's some good stuff there!

What is the point of liking a video? #

Liking a video is a simple way to let other Vimeans know that you enjoy their videos. Once you look around Vimeo, you'll quickly start to find videos that you enjoy. By liking a video you're helping to promote content to your contacts and followers and you're also giving the creator of the video a warm fuzzy. Liking a video is also a great way to store that video in your 'My Likes' section so you can find them again later.

Can I like my own videos? #

Sorry, you can't like your own videos, but we guarantee that if you spread some likes around Vimeo, they will come back to you. It's all about spreading the love!

What is a widget? #

Widgets make it easy to publish or watch Vimeo videos on other web sites.

What the heck is a Hubnut? #

The Hubnut provides a TV-style viewing experience. You can use a Hubnut to publish up to 100 of your videos, or watch your Vimeo subscriptions on other sites. Hubnuts can be made from your videos, Subscriptions, Channels, Albums, Groups, or Likes.

Please note that Hubnuts will not show private videos, and they are currently flash-based only. This means that you will not be able to view your Hubnut on iPhones, iPads, or iPods.

How do I use the Hubnut? #

Go to vimeo.com/tools/widget and click 'Create a Hubnut,' then follow the instructions to customize your Hubnut. Once you're done, grab the embed code to use on your site. Then sit back and watch the magic happen.

Please note that Hubnuts are currently flash-based only and cannot be viewed on iPhones, iPads, or iPods.

What is a Montage? #

The Montage creates a fun, visual display of your newest videos that you can post on other sites. To create a Montage, go to vimeo.com/tools/widget and click 'Create a Montage,' then choose the number of videos to be displayed and the layout of your liking. Once you've customized it as you see fit, you can use the embed code to post it on other sites.

Can I add information while the video is uploading? #

You bet! While your video's uploading you can add a title, description, and tags as well as add credits for any people who appear in your video or helped you make it.

From the 'Privacy' tab you can set your desired level of privacy for your new video, and under the 'Add To' tab you can add your video to any of your Channels or Groups. Go to the 'Embed' tab to set your embedding settings, and under 'Advanced' you can add pictures from Flickr or Picasa, create a custom URL for your video, and apply a Creative Commons License. Just make sure to save your changes!

My upload stopped or got stuck at a certain percentage. Why can't I upload to Vimeo? #

Make sure you're running the most up-to-date version of your browser, and double check that your connection to the Internet is rock solid. Try not to have too much going on in other tabs or browsers, as long files tend to get hung up if there's too much other activity. If you're still experiencing issues, we recommend you use a hardwire ethernet connection and turn off wifi, and any virus protection, ad block, or energy saving settings!

If those steps don't help, please make sure your video is exported according to our Compression Guidelines. The closer you are to those settings, the more easily your source file will upload to Vimeo.

I am having trouble uploading a video, what should I do? #

Give our Compression Guidelines a try, then upload again using the new settings. If you're still having trouble, visit our Help Forum.

Why is my video taking so long to upload? #

There could be a number of reasons. Be sure you're exporting your video according to our Compression Guidelines , and close any other programs on your computer that might be interfering with your upload.

We also recommend that you upload over a hardwire ethernet, rather than wifi to ensure you have the strongest internet connection possible.

What types of video files does Vimeo allow? #

Check out our Compression Guidelines for the best advice on compressing your videos.

Can I upload a file through my mobile phone? #

Yes, you can also upload videos with our iPhone, Android, and Windows Phone 7 apps.

I uploaded my video but the audio is out of sync, how do I fix that? #

Read over our Compression Guidelines, export your video again, and try uploading your new version. If your video is over 30 minutes, we recommend breaking your video into multiple clips on your video timeline before exporting in order for your video to have multiple references to the audio track.

I uploaded a 16:9 (widescreen) video but Vimeo squished it to 4:3, what gives? #

Vimeo uses square pixels when converting your video. You will need to export your videos with square pixels and manually set your aspect ratio to 853x480 for widescreen DV, or 1280x720 for high definition. Read our Compression Guidelines for more information.

Can I upload a video with any aspect ratio I want? #

Vimeo does its best to accommodate any aspect ratio that you upload. However, there is no guarantee your video will look correct or play properly if you upload an unusual aspect ratio.

Can I upload more than one video at a time? #

Yes! You can upload up to 5 videos at a time, as long as you're within your upload limit.

Can I upload any kind of video I want? #

Vimeo is for personal, non-commercial use. Please only upload videos you created yourself! Unlike some other video sites, we enforce this policy very strictly. Read our Uploading Guidelines.

I have the largest collection of Simpsons videos on the planet, can I upload them all to Vimeo? #

We cannot repeat this often enough: only upload videos you create yourself! Unlike some other video sites, we enforce this policy very strictly. For more uploading rules, please read our Guidelines.

Why are the Community Guidelines so strict? #

We want Vimeo to be a healthy, positive environment for people to share their videos. Please show respect for your fellow users and follow our Community Guidelines.

My video failed during the upload process, what do I do now? #

Read over our Compression Guidelines and make sure you're running the most up-to-date version of your web browser. Once you've done these things, try your upload again.

If you still run into issues, head over to our Help Forum so our friendly support staff can give you a hand!

What happens when there's a video conversion delay? #

For a number of different reasons, video conversion may sometimes be temporarily backed up on Vimeo. When this happens, Vimeo developers immediately jump on the case to help speed up the process and the system usually catches up within a matter of hours.

In these situations, there is no need to replace or re-upload your file. Doing this will actually move your conversion request further back in the queue.

If you're a Plus a PRO member, your videos awaiting conversion will still be at the front of the line and among the first to be converted once the process catches up. Thank you for your patience!

My video has a bunch of horizontal lines in it after it finished uploading, how do i fix that? #

When exporting your video, be sure to chose the option to deinterlace. That will take care of those pesky lines.

Why does my video have black bars around it? #

The width of the video player on all Vimeo.com pages is 960px. Videos that display at a narrower width will need to be pillarboxed on either side to create an overall width of 960px. Videos can be displayed without pillarboxing when embedded on other websites.

Why does my video have no sound? Why does the sound cut out on my video? #

If you're having audio problems, you'll most likely need to export your video again according to our recommended compression settings.

What happens if I upload a video without editing any information? #

If you do not edit any of your information, your video will show up as "Untitled" with no description or tags. We recommend you edit these so people can find your video more easily!

To edit these settings, go to the video page and click 'Settings.' From there you can edit the title, tags, description, and more.

What happened to my fade to black? #

Occasionally issues with black or blank frames being dropped or lost can crop up. This is because editing programs tend to drop the frame rate in clip portions that are black to 1FPS, which can then be interpreted as blank by the Vimeo system and cause sync issues. An easy fix is to insert a "slug" (also known as a black shape or image) to keep the frame rate normal in the editor, therefore keeping your videos and our machines happy!

Why am I getting an error saying my file is too small to upload? #

Your video must be at least 200KB in size in order to upload to VImeo. This is because many people accidentally create "Reference movies" when trying to export from QuickTime and other video editing programs. Reference files don't contain any actual video, just links to the files. When exporting from QuickTime, always choose the "Save as self-contained" option.

Are there any programs that work together with Vimeo? #

Yes indeed! A handful of programs come preset to make your Vimeo experience easier than ever before.

iMovie ’11

Thanks to a feature that allows you to export and upload your video directly from the Share menu in iMovie, getting your video to Vimeo is a breeze. To learn more about this, head over to our in depth tutorial at the Vimeo Video School: vimeo.com/videoschool/lesson/39.

Courier

This app has a clean and simple interface that allows you to “mail” video files directly to your Vimeo account and other social media platforms simultaneously. Simply create an envelope, drag on the “stamps” for the services you want to send files to (Vimeo included), and then drag and drop on the files you want to “deliver”! Head over to the Mac App store to download Courier.

Couch Mode for Chrome

This special new app allows you to watch collections of videos (such as Staff Picks, your feed, your videos, etc.) completely uninterrupted like a TV channel. You can also Like clips, add them to your Watch Later playlist, and get more information about videos and other users. To learn more about the app, check out our FAQ. To download the app, head over to the Chrome Web Store.

Which browser does Vimeo recommend for uploading? #

Although Vimeo supports all major browsers, we recommend using a browser that supports our Advanced Uploader. The Advanced Uploader uses more stable technology to prevent uploads from failing even if your Internet connection is slow or spotty. You can also pause and resume your uploads with the Advanced Uploader.

These browsers currently support Vimeo's Advanced Uploader: Remember to always use the most up-to-date version of your browser for best results!

Should I give Vimeo full access to my Dropbox? #

It's up to you! By default, Vimeo will only have access to /Apps/Vimeo folder in your Dropbox. If you enable full access, you'll be able to select and upload video files from any folder on your Dropbox.

To enable full access, simply check the box next to "Give Vimeo full access to my Dropbox" on your Apps Settings.

How does automatic uploading from Dropbox work? #

After you connect to Dropbox, you have the ability to enable auto-uploading by checking the "Auto-upload" option on your Apps Settings and choosing any folder from your Dropbox.

Once this option is turned on, any video files moved into the auto-upload folder you choose will be automatically uploaded to your Vimeo account minutes after they're added (provided you haven't exceeded your Vimeo upload quota). Auto-uploaded videos will adhere to your Global Video Settings.

Be careful when selecting your folder! If you choose a shared Dropbox folder as your auto-upload folder, anyone with access to that Dropbox folder will be able to add videos to your Vimeo account. To keep things simple, we recommend creating a folder called "Vimeo" somewhere in your Dropbox and using that.

Can I move or change the Dropbox folder that I automatically upload from? #

You can choose a different folder to auto-upload from by clicking the "Change?" link next to the auto-upload option on your Apps Settings. If you've given Vimeo full access to your Dropbox, you can select any Dropbox folder to use as your auto-upload folder. If you have not given Vimeo full access, you can only select Dropbox folders under /Apps/Vimeo.

If you move your auto-upload folder to a different place in your Dropbox, this will disable auto-uploading. To re-enable, select a new folder from your Apps Settings.

Does uploading via Dropbox count against my Vimeo upload quota? #

Yes, every video uploaded to Vimeo is counted toward your upload quota.

If the size of the file(s) in your Dropbox auto-upload folder exceeds your current quota, your auto-uploads will be queued up until your quota resets.

If you’re a Vimeo Basic member and 500MB/week isn’t cutting it anymore, try upgrading to Vimeo Plus to boost your quota to 5GB/week.

Where can I see the status of the videos I uploaded from Dropbox? #

You can see the status of your Dropbox uploads by clicking the "+ Dropbox upload status" link on the right side of vimeo.com/upload.

A status window will open, allowing you to navigate through all of the Dropbox folders you’ve given Vimeo access to. You will see a status message next to all of the videos in your auto-upload folder and any videos you've manually uploaded.

I enabled downloads on a video uploaded via Dropbox. Why can’t visitors download my original video file? #

If you uploaded a video through Dropbox and you want to enable visitors to download your original file, you’ll need to keep the original video in the same place within your Dropbox. If you move, delete, or alter the file by saving a new version or renaming it, it will no longer be available for download. However, users will always have the option to download the encoded version(s) of your videos that appear on Vimeo.com if you enabled this option on your video's settings page.

If you want to re-enable downloading of your original file after you’ve modified the file on Dropbox, use Vimeo’s replace feature to replace the file that was originally uploaded from Dropbox with one uploaded directly to Vimeo.

How do I disable Dropbox uploading? #

You can disconnect your Vimeo account from your Dropbox at any time on your Apps Settings. Simply click the "Remove Access" button on the Dropbox section.

Removing this connection will not affect the Vimeo videos you uploaded via Dropbox, but it will prevent visitors from downloading your original video files.

What is HD? #

HD stands for high definition. HD video is richer, clearer, and more life-like than standard TV and even DVDs. It’s a major leap in technology that doesn’t take an expert to appreciate.

Is Vimeo HD the same as HDTV? #

Vimeo presents HD in the 720p format, exactly the same resolution (1280×720) used by major broadcast, cable, and satellite networks.

Plus and PRO users can also upload 1080p videos and have them play back in extra-high definition.

How can I start watching Vimeo videos in HD right now? #

Visit the Vimeo Staff Picks Channel and watch any of the videos in full screen mode. You'll quickly see why HD is amazing.

Can I upload in HD right now? #

Yes! Standard HD resolution is 1280x720, but videos come in all different shapes and sizes. Vimeo uses the overall area of the video to determine whether or not a HD version will be created. If the area of your video is greater than 720x720 (518400 pixels square), an HD version of your video will be generated.

Our servers will make a standard quality version first, then a little later your clip will appear in HD.

Can you recommend some encoding settings for HD? #

We sure can! You can watch exporting tutorials for Vimeo and read our full recommended compression settings here.

Should I deinterlace before I upload? #

It's almost always a good idea. If you're outputting 1080i, deinterlace and resize to 1280×720 before you upload. In many cases if your final outcome is a progressive medium (web, HDTVs, Blu-Ray, etc.) you might be better off deinterlacing before you even start editing.

What happens when I upload an anamorphic (non-square pixels) video? #

All videos uploaded to Vimeo will be converted to square pixels. Regardless of format, all videos will be displayed at the correct aspect ratio.

Does Vimeo support 1080p HD? #

1080p footage will be downscaled to 720p by default.

However, Plus and PRO members have the option to upload and display footage at 1920x1080. This option can be found in the Video File tab from your video's Settings page. Please keep in mind that some older computers and mobile devices cannot properly run or display footage at such high resolutions.

Can I watch HD in its native resolution without scaling? #

Yes, click the full screen button in the lower right corner of the player, then click the button that says "Scaling is on" to turn scaling off. Your preference will be saved for all HD videos you watch.

Do I need a fast Internet connection for HD videos? #

Most residential cable and DSL connections should be more than adequate. If HD feels slow to load, try turning off any background applications that could be using up bandwidth. Or push the play button in the player and then pause to let the video buffer before viewing.

Is my monitor capable of showing HD? #

All modern computer monitors are similar in resolution to HD, if not better. Your computer is a sleeping HD beast; Vimeo will rouse it from its slumber.

Will Vimeo HD work with my HDTV? #

Absolutely. If you can connect your computer to your HDTV (for example, using an inexpensive DVI to HDMI adapter) Vimeo will look gorgeous in full screen, comparable with broadcast digital TV. Once you've done that, why not make some popcorn and give Couch Mode a shot?

Vimeo is also available on many devices, set-top boxes, and Internet-enabled TV sets. See if your device is on our Vimeo Everywhere page!

My HD video did not convert to an HD version on Vimeo, what should I do? #

Vimeo allows Basic members to upload one HD video per week, so if you upload two HD videos within the same week, only the first will show in HD, the other will appear in SD. Plus and PRO members can upload as many HD videos as will fit within their quota limitations.

If an unusual amount of time has passed, and the HD version is still not available, make sure you are using our recommended compression settings and try again. Please be advised that in order to receive the HD treatment, the overall area of the video must be greater than 720x720 (518400 pixels square).

I just have a point and shoot pocket camera, can I still upload HD videos? Do I need a special camera to upload HD? #

Point and shoot cameras that can take video in 1280x720 resolution are becoming more common these days. Check the specifications on your camera for details.

Other sites have HD video and it's free, why should I use Vimeo? #

Because Vimeo is the awesomest!

These days, HD is becoming more and more common. What sets Vimeo apart from all the other sharing services is our amazing features for your videos and our wonderful community. You're not going to find a bunch of TV clips or video ads on Vimeo, but you will find creative videos and friendly people that you won't find anywhere else. Add to that an uncluttered design, tons of privacy options, great embedding features, amazing Channels and Groups for all sorts of interests, and friendly staff members who you can actually communicate with. Why not join Vimeo?

I have a great idea for a feature! How can I suggest it? #

We love new ideas! To suggest a feature to the Staff, post a thread in our Feature Requests forum and tell us all about it. Make sure to search the forum before posting your idea in case there's already a discussion about it.

To avoid having people use your video without your knowledge, we recommend that you disable downloading for your video. You can find instructions for disabling downloads here.

To submit a formal DMCA take down request, please read the required information listed here.

I've found my videos on someone else's website and don't want them there, what do I do? #

We recommend contacting the site administrator and asking them nicely to remove your videos. Another option is to make your videos private using any of the available privacy settings.

Or if you want total control, you can choose which specific sites can embed your video, a tool available with Vimeo Plus.

What is the Vimeo API and what can I do with it? #

The Vimeo API, or Application Programming Interface, is a way for developers to gain access to certain parts of the Vimeo website in order to create an application using data from Vimeo. The Simple API is a very simple interface to access lots of data from Vimeo. You can get data via JSON, XML, and serialized PHP. You do not need a Developer API Key to use the Simple API.

The Advanced API is more complicated than the Simple API, but you can get a lot more data from it. You will need a Developer API Key to use the Advanced API. If you want to test out the Advanced API, head over to the Sandbox.

Full documentation on the Advanced API

To ask questions or discuss the Vimeo API, visit the API Forum.

Can I have HTML in my posts on Vimeo? #

Please refrain from using HTML, as it can interfere with our site. Thanks!

What are the system requirements to use Vimeo? #

Vimeo requires a fairly fast internet connection and computer to load and view videos. Any computer made within the last three years should work fine on Vimeo, but there will always be times when you may experience difficulties loading and playing videos.

What browser can I use with Vimeo? #
We support Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Opera, and Internet Explorer. Whichever browser you prefer, please use the most up-to-date version available to ensure that everything on the site works smoothly — like butter! You can update your browser(s) here:

The site is acting weird! Things aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. What gives? #

If something doesn't work, try again! Sometimes the best way to fix a problem is just to give it another shot. If your problem doesn’t improve after multiple attempts, try holding down the shift button on your keyboard and pushing the reload button on your browser. This will reset the cache in your browser, which will often clear up any problems. If this method still doesn’t work, quit your browser and reopen it and try again. You may also try signing out of your Vimeo account and signing back in. If the problem still persists, try looking in the forums for answers.

Help! My videos say they are temporarily unavailable. Where did they go? #

Don't worry, they're still there! This message just means that Vimeo may be experiencing some technical difficulties and your videos will be available again soon. If you receive this message for longer than a few hours, try clearing your browser cache (shift+refresh) and try loading the video again. If that doesn't clear it up, try searching the forums to see if other users are experiencing similar problems.

You've asked me to clear cache on a page or the browser, how do I do that? #

To clear the cache in your browser hold down the shift button and reload the page. This method resets the information about the page that's stored in your browser.

You've asked me to disable browser extensions, how do I do that? #

We all love browser extensions, they can add much needed functionality and make our day more enjoyable and productive. However sometimes these extensions (also known as add-ons) can interfere with the way a website is designed to work. The Staff may ask you to temporarily disable extensions when troubleshooting, in case they're the cause of any issues. Take a look at the respective article below for instructions on how to do this in your browser.

I'm having trouble logging in to Vimeo. Help me! #

I really need to talk to someone, who can I contact for help? #

You can also email us at support[at]vimeo[dot]com. Please note that sending us more than one support ticket may cause a delay in our response. It may take us up to 72 hours to receive a response, so please be patient.

I have a question that was not answered in this FAQ. What should I do? #

If you have a question that was not answered here, please look for the answer in our forums.

What is my feed? Why do videos show up there? #

Your feed is a neverending supply of fresh videos determined by the things you follow on Vimeo. Any time you follow a member, their videos and the videos they like will show up in your feed. Similarly, when you follow a Channel or join a Group, videos added to those will show up in your feed. To help keep you well stocked with amazing videos, you automatically follow our Staff Picks, but you can unfollow at any time.

How do I discover more videos I might like? #

There are lots of places on Vimeo to discover great videos! First you can start on the Discover tab. The Discover tab highlights the most 'liked' videos from the week.

Explore Channels to find videos curated around certain themes that might interest you. If you find Channels that look cool, follow them and those videos will show up in your feed whenever they're updated. Explore Channels!

Groups are also a great place to explore videos. Groups are communities within Vimeo that you can join and share videos with. There are TONS of Groups on Vimeo and we encourage you to join Groups to meet new people and find the great videos people are creating for that Group. Joining a Group also means any video added to that group will show up in your feed so you can always see what gets added! Explore Groups!

As soon as you find videos that you like, we encourage you to explore the rest of that users' videos to see if you want to follow them. Following someone automatically subscribes you to his or her videos and the videos he or she 'likes', which will show up in your feed.

The Activity tab on your homepage is also another great way to discover videos that people are liking and commenting on right now. You can sort that activity by all users or just the people you follow, to see what everyone's watching and talking about.

We recommend exploring the site and you'll find even more great ways to discover new videos!

My video isn't showing up when I search for it? #

The best way to have your video show up in search is to tag it appropriately in your video's settings. If it still doesn't show up, try adding more information in your description.

How can I get my video in the Staff Picks Channel? #

The best way to have your videos chosen for Staff Picks is to make good videos! Then, post a link to your video in the shoutbox of either of those channels and the staff will try to watch them. Please DO NOT send messages to staff members asking them to watch your videos, that doesn't work very well.

How do I stay current with news about Vimeo? #

The best way to stay current with Vimeo is to read our Blog! Not only is it a thrilling literary masterpiece, its also where we update the community with news about Vimeo. Subscribe to it via an RSS reader on the Blog page.

How do I switch between the HTML5 player and the Flash player? #

What changed from the previous versions of the Vimeo iPhone app? #

Here are some of the changes in our latest Vimeo iPhone app:

  • Brand new tab-based iPhone UI
  • Quickly view and browse videos via the brand new Feed view
  • Native Twitter and Facebook sharing of all videos
  • Automatically share your video to Twitter and Facebook after uploading
  • Upload your videos in the background via the new upload UI
  • Manage your Watch Later queue
  • Removed Projects and Stats
  • Please note that most of these changes have not yet been applied to the iPad version of the iOS 3.0 app, but stay tuned!

Why can't I edit videos in the Vimeo iPhone app anymore? #

We streamlined our iPhone app to make it easier to watch, create and share Vimeo videos on the go. If you had unfinished projects saved in previous versions of the iPhone app, read below for instructions on exporting your projects.

How can I save projects that I started in previous versions of the Vimeo iPhone app? #

All projects you started on earlier versions of the iPhone app are archived in the new app. You can find the projects by signing in, tapping on Me, and then tapping on the orange banner. From there, you'll be able to export the projects to your camera roll or simply delete them.

What can I do with the iOS app on the iPad? #

We've packed the app with tons of features and tools! You can upload, edit, manage and watch your videos right from your iPad.

Currently, our app features an easy-to-use video editor that allows you to:

  • Capture video with focus control and grid alignment
  • Combine, edit, and trim your videos
  • Add transitions, titles, and effects
  • Add music and recordings
  • Control volume levels
  • Save edited videos to your camera roll or upload directly to Vimeo

We also offer you the whole Vimeo experience by allowing you to:

  • Watch and manage all your existing Vimeo videos and download them to your camera roll
  • Easily upload raw video shot on your iPad or edited creations in HD or SD
  • Pause/resume uploads and get reminded when a video is paused
  • Add your clips to your Groups, Channels and Albums

And of course the basics:

  • Watch videos from your Vimeo feed, Watch Later queue, or videos you have liked
  • Easily like, comment and add videos to your Watch Later queue
  • Discover new and interesting videos in the Featured Videos tab

Why does the Vimeo iOS app need access to my Photos and Videos? #
If you want to upload video or shoot video within the app, you'll need to give permission to access your Camera Roll. If you deny permission, you may lose any video you've shot using the app, and you won't be able to upload video from your Camera Roll. That would be sad! :(

How do I make sure the Vimeo iOS app has access to my Photos and Videos? #
From the home screen, go to Settings > Privacy > Photos. Change the Vimeo setting to "ON."

Why does the Vimeo iOS app need to access my location? #
If you're on an older device or you're still using iOS 5, you'll be asked for permission to access your location. This is only required because location data is saved with the photos and videos you shoot. Vimeo does not collect or use use your location information.

Is there a Vimeo Android app? #

You bet! You can download it for free over here.

Is there a Windows Phone app? #
Absolutely. Both the Windows Phone 7 and 8 versions can be found here.

Why is my video taking so long to upload from the Windows Phone app? #
If you record your video with 1080p, the file size will be pretty large. If you’re experiencing slow uploads from the app, we recommend uploading your video over WiFi and connecting your phone to its charger.

Why can't I access the videos from my camera roll in the Windows Phone 8 app? #
Currently, the app can only upload videos shot using the app itself, sorry about that!

Why does Vimeo have a Music Store? #

We wanted to provide a place where our users could find music to put in their videos. Unlike music that you might download from a store for personal listening purposes, the Music Store allows you to find music that you can license for use in your videos.

How do I add music to my videos? #

You can download tracks from Music Store and add them to your videos with your video editing software, or you can automatically add these tracks to your Vimeo videos with our nifty Enhancer.

Need help getting started with editing tracks in your video? Check out these Video School lessons:

How do I search Music Store? #

You can search Music Store by typing in a Genre, Tempo, Theme, Mood, or a specific instrument. Our awesome search bar will automatically start guessing tags as you type. Simply press the tab key when the term you want is highlighted to select it as a tag to search by. You can add as many tags as you want to get super specific!

For more control, you can apply our advanced search filters. Click the Advanced Filters link that appears below the search bar to filter by duration, price range, license type, provider, and vocal type. You also can enable or disable safe search.

How do I clear tags from the search bar? #

Simply press the X next to each tag name to remove it, or press the X next to the search button to clear the entire search.

What is SmartSound? #

SmartSound offers customizable, royalty-free tracks for your videos. SmartSound tracks offer customizable track duration, and you can choose the mood or track variation that best suits your video.

How can I add SmartSound tracks to my videos? #

You can search for SmartSound tracks by clicking the Advanced Filters link that appears under the search bar and selecting SmartSound from the Provider drop-down menu.

SmartSound tracks will show a gear icon where you would normally see the song length, as well as a gear icon where you would see a shopping cart or download icon for other tracks. You can click the Play button to preview a track, and clicking on either of the gear icons will take you to the track page where you can customize it to your liking. With SmartSound, you can choose the arrangement or mood that suits your video, and customize the track duration as well.

To add a SmartSound track to your video, you can either purchase and download the track from the Music Store to use in your own editing software, or use our Enhancer to add the track to your video right here on Vimeo!

How can I get my music on Vimeo’s Music Store? #

The Vimeo Music Store sources tracks from our partners at Audiosocket, Free Music Archive, and SmartSound. If you have an account with any of those sites, your music should appear in Music Store when searching the appropriate tags. Otherwise, feel free to get in touch with one of our partners to explore the possibility of adding your music to their catalogs:

How do I search for only free tracks? #

Click the 'Advanced Filters' link under the search button to expand the menu. There you’ll find a slew of options including 'Price range' where you can select free tracks. Save some money and some music!

What does the star next to the tracks mean? #

When hovering over a track, a star will appear on the left hand side over the track number. Pressing this will allow you to add that track to your 'My Saved Tracks' list so you can find it later!

Featured tracks are chosen by the Vimeo staff. If we like something and think it would be a good song for someone to use in their videos, we feature it!

How does the Recommendations tab work? #

This tab contains a full list of all of our featured tracks. It shows you the best of the best, at least until we update it!

What is the Music Store refund policy? #

All sales are final in the Vimeo Music Store.

Can I share tracks I purchase with my friends? #

When you purchase a track with a personal or commercial license, you’ve purchased the right to use it for your projects only. If a friend wants to use that track they’ll have to purchase their own license from the Music Store.

Why do I have to name my project to download some tracks? #

Audiosocket requires this information to generate your music license. If you don’t have an official title, you can describe your project.

Why can’t I find Lady Gaga’s music? #

Music Store gets tracks from Audiosocket, SmartSound and Free Music Archive. These sites are filled with awesome creators just like Vimeo, and don’t contain music from mainstream recording artists.

What are the license options for paid tracks? #

We offer two licenses for paid tracks for each of our paid providers (Audiosocket and SmartSound). Audiosocket offers a Personal License and an Indie Filmmaker/Small Business License. SmartSound offers a Personal License and a Commercial License. Please make sure you read each license before completing your purchase.

What if I lose the music file I paid for? #

No worries! Just check the 'My Downloads' tab. You’ll always be able to re-download tracks you’ve purchased in the past.

Each track is licensed by the individual artist.

What is a Share Alike license? #

If you’re using a track that is subject to a Creative Commons Share Alike license, the work that uses that track must also be made available to the public under the same license. For example, if the track is governed by an Attribution Noncommercial Share Alike license, any video that incorporates the track must be licensed to others under the same license. This means that others will be able to adapt your video for noncommercial purposes so long as they provide attribution and license any adaptation under the same terms.

What if I want to use my video with music licensed under the Audiosocket Indie Filmmaker/Small Business License beyond web distribution? #

For two (2) years following your License purchase, Audiosocket will provide perpetual, worldwide licenses for the following media and uses at the following rates:

What is the Enhancer? #

The Enhancer lets you add Hollywood-style Looks and Music Store tracks to your videos, all right here on Vimeo.

What are Looks? #

Looks are visual effects that can be applied to any of your videos through the magic of Vimeo's Enhancer. They range from simple color overlays that modify the mood of your clip to robust visual effects that will make your work look — to use an industry term — totally badass.

Vimeo’s Looks engine is powered by Vivoom, the visual enhancing platform built on the same cutting-edge technology used by Top TV and film production studio such as SONY, Warner Brothers, ESPN, and more. Visit vimeo.com/enhancer to browse our extensive library of visual treatments and find the Look that's right for your video.

How do I add Looks and music with the Enhancer? #

To get started, click the Enhancer link in the Create menu on any page, or head straight to vimeo.com/enhancer. Your journey begins with a single click of the "Start enhancing now" button.

Under “My Videos,” choose the video you'd like to enhance. From there, you can enhance your video with a Look, a soundtrack, or both. If at any time you need some extra explanation, click “I Need Help” underneath the “Enhance” button and we’ll walk you through every feature on the page.

Adding a Look

After you select a video, our library of Looks will be open and ready to browse. Flip through our Recommended Looks for a curated selection, or browse by category, including genre, mood, color, and more.

Clicking on a Look will apply a preview to the video you selected. As you test out different Looks, save the ones you like by clicking on the star icon below the Look thumbnail. This will give you quick access to that Look in your Saved collection. Click on the grid icon (next to the star icon) to see more Looks similar to the one you chose.

Preview the Look on your video in real time by clicking the Play button on the video player. Use the slider below the preview to apply the Look to a portion of your video instead of the whole shebang. You can adjust the strength of your Look using the Intensity slider to the right of your preview. Make it range from “subtle and smooth” to “whoa, chill out.”

Adding Music

To add a Music Store track to your video, click the Add Music link below the video preview. Scroll down to browse our recommendations or search by defined genres, moods, tempos, and more. You can add your favorites to the My Saved Tracks section for future use, or revisit tracks you've already downloaded from the Music Store in the My Downloads tab.

Once you've found the track you'd like to use, click the blue film reel icon to add it to your video preview. If the video is longer than the track, drag the dashed bar that appears directly below the preview to select the portion of the video where you'd like the track to play.

If the selected track is longer than the video, drag the highlighted area that appears on the audio waveform to choose the portion of the track you'd like to apply to your video.

The volume adjusters to the right of the video player control the levels for the video's existing audio as well as the newly added track. Set Fade In and Fade Out points to smooth out the transition between when your track begins and ends.

Finishing Up

Click the Play button to preview your enhancements. To finalize, click the green Enhance or Buy & Enhance button and specify whether you'd like to replace your existing video or save a new version.

After a brief period of processing (i.e., a team of microscopic elves massaging your video from their home inside your computer), your enhanced video will be available to watch!

I'm not happy with my newly Enhanced video. Can I revert it back to the original version I uploaded? #

When you Enhance a video, you have two options:

  1. Replace your existing video with the Enhanced version
  2. Save a new version of your video with the Enhancement, leaving your original video untouched in your account

If you chose option #2, you can simply delete the Enhanced version. If you chose option #1, there is unfortunately no way to "undo" the Enhancement. You can instead use our handy replace feature to re-upload your original file.

Can I block other members on Vimeo? #

Yes, we enable you to block other members on Vimeo. Connecting with people can be one of the best parts of the Vimeo experience; however, we feel it’s good to have control over your connections.

Please note that you can only block logged in members of Vimeo. People that are not logged in cannot be blocked.

How do I block someone on Vimeo? #
To block a member, log into your account, point your mouse to “Me” in the navigation bar at the top of any page, and then click on “My Settings.” On your Settings page, click on the “Advanced” tab and find the “Blocked Members” section. Click “Block a member” and enter a member’s user ID or profile page URL. Then click “Block member.” When you are done adding blocked members, click the “Save all changes” button.

What happens when I block a member? #

When you block someone on Vimeo, they can’t:

  • Follow you on Vimeo
  • Like your videos
  • Comment on your videos
  • Add your videos to their Albums, Channels, or Groups
  • Send you messages
  • Share your videos (when logged in to Vimeo)

In addition, blocking someone will:

  • Delete their likes and comments from your videos
  • Remove your videos from their Albums, Channels, or Groups
  • Unsubscribe them from your Channels and delete their shouts
  • Remove them and any forum topics they have created from Groups you created or moderate

Finally, when you block someone, you automatically unfollow them and they automatically unfollow you (if applicable). Please note that blocked members will still be able to view your profile page and watch your videos — they just can’t interact with them.

Do I have any options besides blocking? #
In addition to blocking a member, you can unfollow a member (which automatically happens if you block someone), or flag a member’s video if you feel its content is not appropriate for Vimeo.

Will a member be notified if I block them? #
No. Members are not notified when they are blocked. However, they may find out they are blocked if they can’t follow you, send you messages, or access the actions available to them before they were blocked.

Can I unblock someone? #
Yes. If you change you mind, go to your blocked members list and click “Unblock” next to the member’s user ID or profile page URL.

Is there any way that I can find out if I’ve been blocked by someone? #
There is no official way to find out if you have been blocked by another member. But if you notice that you are no longer following a member, or perform actions that were previously available to you, you may have been blocked.

How can I get a job at Vimeo? #
Well, you can start by applying for one. All of our open positions are listed on the Jobs page. And if there’s no open position that matches what you’re looking for, you can try winning us over with baked goods and/or sending a persuasive email to jobs@vimeo.com.

What kind of experience should I have? #
Most of our job descriptions list out the necessary experience, but in general, if you’ve ever ridden a bicycle with no hands, you’ve probably got what it takes.

Do I need a degree from an elite university? #
No. We prefer degrees from the School of Hard Knocks.

What can I do to make my application stand out? #
Start by writing us a special cover letter from scratch — don’t use the same generic one you send to every other company. If you know how to juggle or play the autoharp, be sure to mention that.

Do you need an intern? #
Sometimes. We have an apprentice program, which is sort of like an internship program, only much cooler. Any open apprentice positions will be posted on the Jobs page.

How can I find people I know on Vimeo? #
You can use the digital connections you already have to find friends on Vimeo. You can find friends using your Gmail and Yahoo! address books, your friends on Facebook, and the people you follow on Twitter. Simply visit this page and we’ll walk you through it.

How does finding friends work? #
When you find friends through Vimeo, you give us permission to access your contacts in your email address book or social profile. We compare your contacts there to the people on Vimeo, and when we find a match, we suggest it to you. Finding friends is the easiest way to keep up on what your friends are posting and liking on Vimeo.

Ok, I found some friends. Now what? #
When you find friends, you can choose to follow them and stay up to date on their Vimeo activity. If you don’t want to follow them, that’s fine too.

What if I can’t find any friends? #
That means your friends are just a lot less cool than you are. Seriously though, you can still get your friends on Vimeo — just send them a friendly invitation.

What is following? #
Following is a simple way to keep up with people and activity on Vimeo. When you follow someone or something, you will receive updates on that person or thing in your feed on your homepage. Following updates appear in your feed in real time, and you’ll also see any new updates whenever you log in to Vimeo.

What can I follow on Vimeo? #
You can follow people, a.k.a. other Vimeo members, as well as their likes and appearances. You also can follow Channels and tags to find out when a Channel is updated or when a tag that interests you is applied to a new video.

Why should I follow people? #
For four reasons:
  1. Following is an easy way to stay connected to what others are doing on Vimeo.
  2. When you follow others, you increase your chances of discovering videos you’ll enjoy.
  3. Following is a sign of social goodwill — it shows the person you follow that you are a fan of what they do on Vimeo.
  4. Following makes sharing simpler. The people you follow are the first to show up when you want to share something you find on Vimeo.

How do I follow someone or something on Vimeo? #
It’s easy — just click the “follow” button on a person’s profile page, or anywhere else it appears.

What happens when I follow someone or something? #

When you follow someone or something, you will receive updates on that person or thing in your homepage feed. Updates happen in real time, and you’ll also see any new updates whenever you log in. You can control what appears in your feed using your feed manager.

In addition, you’ll be able to send messages to the people you follow.

If I follow someone, do they automatically follow me as well? #
No. The person you follow will be notified that you are following them, but they will follow you only if they choose to do so.

Can I follow someone without them being notified? #
No. When you follow someone, they will receive a notification in their feed.

Can I follow anyone on Vimeo? #
Yes, you can follow any person on Vimeo, unless that person has blocked you. Read more about blocking members.

How can I see whom I follow on Vimeo? #
When you are logged in to Vimeo, visit the “Following” page, found in the navigation bar at the top of any page.

How can I see who follows me on Vimeo? #
On your “Following” page, there is a tab for “Followers.” Click it to see who keeps up with you.

How can I find people to follow? #

We built a special page to help you find your friends on Vimeo. You can use Facebook, Twitter, or your email address book (provided you use Gmail or Yahoo! Mail) to search Vimeo for people you already know. And when you find your friends, you can follow them right away.

You can also browse Channels to find others who are interested in the same things you are. You can even follow Channels themselves.

Is it okay to follow someone if I don't know them? #
Sure. When trying to decide whether to follow someone, ask yourself this fundamental question: Do I want to watch this person’s videos? If so, follow them! And maybe leave them a message telling them what you think of their videos. Following is a way to bookmark the people you like on Vimeo, as well as a way to keep up to date on the videos they upload and enjoy. Keep in mind that not everyone you follow will follow you, and that following thousands of people does not mean thousands of people will suddenly start watching your videos.

Is there a limit to how many people I can follow? #
To ensure optimal performance, you are limited to following 1,000 people. Beyond that, we’d have to load excessive amounts of data and the site would be slow and you’d be unhappy.

Can I stop following someone? #
Yes, you can. It’s called “unfollowing,” and you can do it by going to a person’s profile page and clicking the “Unfollow” button.

If I unfollow someone, will they be notified? #
Nope — a person is not notified when you unfollow them. So you’re in the clear! Unless of course the person you unfollow goes through their list of followers and sees that you’ve mysteriously disappeared. Then you might have some explaining to do.

Can I stop someone from following me? #
Yes. You can block members from following you (and doing other things that apply to you on Vimeo) in the “Advanced” tab of your settings. Read more about blocking people on Vimeo.

What is Tip Jar and how does it work? #
Tip Jar allows your fans to show their appreciation for your videos with small cash payments to you. When Vimeo Plus or Vimeo PRO members activate it on a video, viewers will see a “Tip this video” button below the player on the clip page. They enter their tip amount and credit card information, and you get paid. Simple!

Where do I see Stats for Tip Jar? #

Get the juicy details by shimmying over to vimeo.com/stats.

Below your Weekly Overview section, you'll see your "Tip Jar Stats at a glance" section, providing a quick overview or recent performance. Dive deeper by clicking the "+ View your Tip Jar Stats" and "+ View your Tip Jar Dashboard" links.

Why should I use Tip Jar to tip a video creator? #
A tip is the ultimate expression of appreciation, and the easiest and best way to support the creators you love. With a tip, you're not only telling a creator how important their work is to you, you're also giving them the resources to make more of it. Whether we're viewers or creators, we're all members of the Vimeo community, and we can help it thrive.

How can I add Tip Jar to my videos? #

The first step is to activate Tip Jar by connecting your Vimeo account to a PayPal account.

If you’re a Vimeo Plus or Vimeo PRO member, you can activate Tip Jar on your Account Settings or from any of your videos’ Advanced Settings. Scroll down to the Creator Services payments section of the page and check the box next to “Connect my PayPal account.” You’ll be prompted to sign in to PayPal (or create a new PayPal account) and then connect your PayPal account to Vimeo.

Once you’re connected to PayPal, you can activate Tip Jar on individual videos in their Advanced Video Settings. Simply check the box next to “Activate Tip Jar” and then click “Save Changes.” Once Tip Jar is activated on a particular video, a “Tip this video” button will appear underneath the video player on Vimeo.com, allowing viewers to leave tips!

How do I use Tip Jar to leave a tip? #

If Tip Jar has been activated on a particular video, you will see a “Tip this video” button below the video player. The process is simple: Click the button, enter the amount of your tip (anywhere between $1 and $500), then enter your credit card information or click "use PayPal" to make a payment via PayPal.

Be sure to double-check the amount you entered before confirming your payment. Tips are not refundable!

Who is eligible to receive Tip Jar tips? #

Vimeo Plus members and non-commercial Vimeo PRO members in good standing can use Tip Jar.

You will need a verified PayPal account in order to withdraw your tips. (Learn more about PayPal’s account verification process in their FAQ.)

Who can leave a Tip Jar tip? #
Anyone with a valid credit card or PayPal account can leave a tip. You can leave a tip even if you don’t have a Vimeo account, or are logged out of your account.

Are there any restrictions on using Tip Jar? #

You cannot accept tips on commercial or political videos, nor can you use Tip Jar to solicit or accept donations for a political cause or payment for goods or services.

Please be aware that any violations of the Tip Jar restrictions mentioned above, the Vimeo Guidelines, or our Terms of Service may result in the suspension of Tip Jar on your account. Learn more.

How do I collect my Tip Jar tips? #

Any tips you receive on your videos will be accrued throughout the calendar month and then transferred to your PayPal account in one lump payment, minus a 15% service fee. Payments are processed 30 days after the end of the month. (For example, a payment for all the tips you receive in the month of June will be transferred from Vimeo to your PayPal account on July 30th.)

When the payment is processed, a statement reflecting the amount paid will be sent to the email address associated with your Vimeo account.

You will need a verified PayPal account in order to withdraw your payments. (Learn more about PayPal’s verification process in their FAQ.)

Please be aware that the payment will not necessarily appear in your PayPal account immediately – it may take up to 30 additional days for the payment to appear in your account after it has been processed by Vimeo. Please contact PayPal to inquire about the status of any pending payments after Vimeo has processed them.

Why was Tip Jar disabled on my account? #

If Tip Jar has been disabled on your account, it means that Vimeo moderators have found at least one of the following violations on your account:

  • You enabled Tip Jar on commercial content.
  • You solicited tips in exchange for goods, services, or political donations.
  • You uploaded content that does not comply with the Vimeo Guidelines and/or Terms of Service.

If you believe that Tip Jar was disabled in error, please contact us.

What happens if Tip Jar is disabled on my account? #

If Tip Jar is disabled due to a violation of our terms and guidelines, you will no longer be able to accept tips on your videos. In the case of severe violations, your Vimeo account may be removed.

If Tip Jar is disabled, all pending tips will be refunded to the individual tippers and you may be asked to return any payments you have already received.

Where can I view my Tip Jar tips and payments? #

You will receive an email for each tip as well as a monthly summary of all the tips you collected during the month.

Your all-time total is listed on the Tip Jar section of your Account Settings page.

To see a summary of tips made on a particular video, click the “Tip Jar” button underneath the video player or visit your video’s Advanced Settings page.

I just received a tip via Tip Jar. Why isn’t it listed? #
It takes tips 3 hours to process. After 3 hours, you’ll see the tip listed on your video page and the video’s Advanced Settings page. You’ll also receive a confirmation email.

Why can’t I add Tip Jar to my video? #

If you’re a Vimeo Basic member, you will need to upgrade to Vimeo Plus or Vimeo PRO to activate Tip Jar.

If you’re a Plus or PRO member, follow these instructions to activate Tip Jar.

Even if you’re a Plus or PRO member, Tip Jar may be suspended or disabled for violations of our Tip Jar policies. Learn more.

Can I enable Tip Jar for private videos? #
You can enable Tip Jar on for private videos. Of course, if you’ve selected “Only me” or “Hide this video from Vimeo.com” as your privacy setting, no one else will be able to view your video or leave a tip. So that might not be the most lucrative decision you’ve ever made.

Can I enable Tip Jar for embedded videos? #
The Tip Jar button is not embeddable. Tip Jar-enabled videos can still be embedded elsewhere, but visitors can only leave tips by visiting the video page on Vimeo.com.

Can I get a refund for my Tip Jar tip? #

Tip Jar payments are not refundable.

However, tips may be automatically forfeit and refunded to the tipper if Tip Jar is disabled on the tip recipient’s account due to a violation of our Tip Jar policies.

If you believe that someone else used your credit card or PayPal account to make a tip without your permission, please file a report with your credit card issuer or PayPal directly.

What are Content Ratings? #
Content Ratings are a way to keep Vimeo accessible to as many audiences as possible. We ask creators to tell us if their videos contain nudity, violence, profanity, or illegal substances, and based on the categories they select — or don't select — one of the following badges will appear next to a video's title: All Audiences, Mature, or Not Yet Rated.

How do I rate my video? #
You can rate each video from the Advanced tab of its Settings page. Simply choose the appropriate rating ("All audiences" or "Mature"), select one of more of the Mature content categories if applicable, then save your changes.

If all of your videos can be categorized similarly, you can set a default rating for all your videos in your Global Video Settings. Under the heading "What is the content rating of your videos?" select the appropriate rating. Once you click Save as Default, the rating will be automatically applied to every new video you upload. Check the box next to "Apply to ALL my videos" if you want to apply the rating to all your videos currently on Vimeo. You can change the ratings of individual videos after applying a default rating.

Why should I rate all of my videos? #
Though often essential to artistic expression, so-called "mature content" can be decidedly less essential for certain audiences, such as children, office workers with their computer speakers turned up too loud, and people who’d rather not encounter particular things. Ratings give your viewers a heads up about what to expect from your videos, helping them make informed decisions and helping you avoid negative comments and complaints.

How can I figure out the rating of a particular video? #
When you're watching videos on Vimeo.com, the rating of each video appears next to the video's title, right underneath the player. Depending on what category the creator chose (or didn't choose), you'll see one of the following badges: All Audiences, Mature, or Not Yet Rated.

How can I filter out mature, explicit, and unrated content on Vimeo? #
We don't offer an option to filter out mature content at this time, but we're working on it. In the meantime, check the badge next to each video's title before you press play. If you're concerned about nudity, violence, profanity, or illegal substances, stick to the videos rated "All audiences."

Why do I have to specify the types of mature content my videos include? #
In the future, Vimeo will use these designations to help viewers decide which types of mature content they want to see and which they'd like to filter out. Giving your content a detailed and accurate rating now puts you ahead of the curve, ensuring that your videos will appear in all relevant search results.

What will happen if I enter an incorrect rating for one of my videos? #
If a Vimeo moderator comes across a misrated video, we may change your rating and lock in the new rating. If we believe that you're intentionally misrating your videos to shock or confuse people, your account may be closed or restricted. But you'd never do that, right?

Why has the end of my video been cut off? #

When a video appears to be "cut off" on Vimeo, it is usually due to some kind of corruption with the source file. To start, try watching your original source file on your computer (in a program like Quicktime or VLC) to ensure that it plays back without issue. If everything looks good, re-upload the file and see whether the new version is still truncated. (Keep in mind that you can delete videos uploaded during your quota week to return that space to your account.)

If the issue persists, export a fresh version of the file from your editing or encoding software and upload this new file to Vimeo.

Following the steps above almost always fixes this problem. That said, if none of the above resolves the issue, please let us know and we'll be happy to take a closer look.

I uploaded an HD video on Vimeo and it didn't show up in HD, what gives? #

First things first, make sure you uploaded an HD video. Standard HD resolution is 720 x 1280, but videos come in all different shapes and sizes.

Vimeo uses the overall area of the video to determine whether or not a HD version will be created. If the area of your video is great than 720 x 720 (518400 pixels square), an HD version of your video will be created.

Vimeo allows Basic members to upload one HD video per week, so if you upload two HD videos within the same week, only the first will show in HD, the other will appear in SD.

If an unusual amount of time has passed, and the HD version is still not up, make sure you are following our Compression Guidelines and try again.

The audio is out of sync on the video I uploaded. How do I fix that? #

If you notice that some of the videos you uploaded are out of sync on Vimeo, it probably means that one or more of your compression settings are off. Here are the most common causes for a loss of audio sync:

  • Your video is encoded with a variable frame rate. Solution: Re-encode your video with a constant frame rate.
  • Your video is encoded with a frame rate we don't support. Solution: Re-encode your video at 23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, or 30 fps.

Read more about frame rate encoding settings in our Video Compression Guidelines.

If you followed all of our recommended Video Compression Settings and your videos are still out of sync, contact us and we'd be happy to take a look. Before you do that, please take the following steps to figure out where the sync issue is occurring.

(1) Check your source file (the one you uploaded to Vimeo initially) and make sure it is in sync. (2) Download the Vimeo-encoded HD and SD versions of your video. Watch both and make note of whether or not they are in sync. (3) On the video page, switch between the Flash and HTML5 players on a compatible browser such as Google Chrome, and then refresh the page. Check to see if the video is out of sync in one, the other, or both versions of the player.

Once you've collected all of that information, contact us with all of the details we asked about above, along with a link to the video(s) in question and description of the places in the video where the loss of sync is especially apparent.

Why didn't my video convert successfully? #

If your video isn't displaying correctly or you're seeing a weird error message following the conversion process, it may mean that the video you uploaded includes a video or audio codec that Vimeo does not support.

Go2Meeting, Canopus HQ, and Apple Intermediate Codec are examples of codecs that Vimeo does not support. These files will need to be re-encoded before you upload them.

To ensure your videos will convert beautifully, re-compress your video so that it matches our Video Compression Guidelines.

Is Vimeo On Demand right for me? #

The short answer is: It depends! On what you make, how you want to distribute, and a few other things.

Vimeo On Demand is designed primarily to help creators sell films and episodic series. If you make those, Vimeo On Demand can definitely help. However, we don’t restrict the type of work you can distribute, with the exception of explicit content, which is not permitted. If you have a question about whether your work is suitable for Vimeo On Demand, please contact us and we’ll talk you through it!

Also, as you may have suspected, Vimeo On Demand is strictly a digital distribution platform. It can’t burn DVDs and send them to festivals on your behalf. :)

How do I sell my video using Vimeo On Demand? #

VOD makes self-distribution simple for Vimeo PRO members. Once you are a PRO member, head to Creator Services, select Vimeo On Demand, then click “Get Started.”

From there, you can upload videos into a customizable On Demand page, which you can design to perfectly match your work. Add a trailer, extra features, and a poster. Set the price for your video (anything from $.99 to $500) and decide how long your video will be available to watch — it’s all up to you. To start distributing, click “publish” and your On Demand page will be live on Vimeo.

Spread the word by telling people about your Vimeo On Demand page via your favorite social media channels, email, flyers stapled to telephone poles, skywriting, and whatever other methods you devise. The marketing part is up to you, so make sure to get the word out! When someone makes a purchase, we’ll let you know.

Want some more guidance for setting up your On Demand page? Check out our best practices guide.

How do I manage my Vimeo On Demand pages? #

Once you’re logged in, head to your profile and click the VOD link in the upper right.

There you’ll find all of your published and unpublished On Demand pages. Click the Settings gear icon in the upper right hand corner of the VOD template you wish to edit, then make any desired changes.

I got an error when connecting my PayPal account to my On Demand page. What gives? #

First of all, make sure your PayPal account is verified — if it’s not, you will not be able to connect it to your Vimeo account.

You will also need to make sure that you entered your first and last name exactly as they appear on your PayPal account.

How do I get paid through Vimeo On Demand? #

Any purchases you receive will be accrued throughout the calendar month and then transferred to your PayPal account in one lump payment approximately 30 days after the month’s end. (For example, a payment for all the purchases you receive in the month of June will be transferred from Vimeo to your PayPal account on or around July 30th.)

You keep 90% of revenue after transaction fees, and we cover all delivery costs. When the payment is processed, a statement reflecting the amount paid will be sent to the email address associated with your Vimeo account.

You will need a verified PayPal account in order to withdraw your payments. (Learn more about PayPal’s verification process in their FAQ.)

Please be aware that the payment will not necessarily appear in your PayPal account immediately — it may take up to 30 additional days for the payment to appear in your account after it has been processed by Vimeo. Please contact PayPal to inquire about the status of any pending payments after Vimeo has processed them.

Do Vimeo On Demand uploads count against my PRO storage space? #

Yes. Once you upload content to your Vimeo On Demand page, the size of your video file will be deducted from your overall storage space.

If you need more space, additional storage packages can be purchased at vimeo.com/pro.

How large can my Vimeo On Demand video files be? #

As Vimeo PRO member, you can upload video files up to 25GB as long as you have enough space in your storage quota.

If you don’t have enough space, additional storage packages can be purchased at vimeo.com/pro.

We strongly recommend exporting your video files according to our Video Compression Guidelines before uploading them. This will maximize your storage space and ensure that the videos will look awesome on Vimeo.

How do I set up a custom domain for Vimeo On Demand? #

You can sell your Vimeo on Demand (VOD) videos directly through vimeo.com/ondemand and/or on a custom domain on your own website.

You can use a domain that you already own (http://my-rad-site.com), set up a sub-domain on your existing website (http://movies.my-rad-site.com), or purchase a new domain to use (http://my-new-site.com). If you

Step 1: Set up your domain

Purchase a domain from a registrar such as DreamHost.com, name.com, or 1and1.com.

Alternately, you can set up a subdomain on your existing site. (Contact your registrar or hosting service for instructions.)

Step 2: Update your A-Record or CNAME Record

If you want your VOD page to live on your top-level domain (http://my-rad-site.com), follow your domain registrar’s instructions to set the domain’s A-Record to 74.113.233.155.

If you want your VOD page to live on a subdomain (http://movies.my-rad-site.com), you will need to follow your registrar's instructions for updating your CNAME Record so that it points to vimeopro.com.

Note: It may take up to 72 hours for these changes to take effect across the Interwebs.

Step 3: Update your VOD Settings

On the Advanced tab of your VOD Settings page, enter your domain or subdomain into the "Enter Domain" field, then save your changes.

Step 4: Test your new VOD page

Open a new browser window and navigate to the domain or subdomain you just set up. You should now see your VOD page! If you don't see your page, and it has been more than 72 hours since you updated your A-Record or CNAME Record, contact your domain registrar for further assistance.

Someone left a bad rating on my video. Can I delete it? #
It’s not possible for you to delete ratings. However, if you feel that someone has left an off-topic, irrelevant, or abusive comment on your video, please contact us so that we can take a look.

How are transaction costs calculated? #

Transaction costs range from 4% to 17%, depending on factors such as the purchaser's payment method and the price you set for your work. Please note we do not charge you for hosting or bandwidth costs. We are always working to make transactions more favorable for creators.

What currencies does Vimeo On Demand support? #

All VOD transactions are processed in US dollars.

I want my video to be available only in certain regions. How do I do that? #

Head to the “Basic Info” tab in your VOD Settings and scroll down to the “Viewing Options” section. Under “Available regions” you’ll be able to choose where you want to distribute your work. We strongly recommend worldwide!

Please keep in mind that Google Analytics will track traffic only on your custom-hosted VOD page. Google Analytics will not track stats for VOD pages hosted on Vimeo.com.

I'm a Vimeo Plus member, but I really want to use VOD. What should I do? #

In order to use Vimeo On Demand, you’ll need to become a PRO member. But don’t worry; being a PRO member is totally rad!

If you’re farther into your annual Plus subscription, contact us and someone from our Support Team will help you make the transition.

How should I compress my videos for VOD? #

Please make sure you’ve compressed your videos according to our recommended settings: vimeo.com/help/compression. Not only will getting these settings right make it easier for you to upload your video, it ensures that your video will look its absolute best on Vimeo!

What dimensions should I use for my VOD poster? What about the thumbnail image? #

You’ll have the best results uploading a JPG or PNG poster that is 500px by 750px. Your thumbnail should be a JPG, GIF, or PNG file that is the same resolution as your video.

Can I make my video available for download? #

Absolutely. Just head to the “Basic Info” tab in your VOD page settings and scroll down to the “Viewing Options” section. Under “Allow download?” choose “Yes,” then save!

If you select this option, viewers who buy your movie will be able to download a copy of movie onto their computers at any point during their viewing period.

I made a mistake! How do I delete a Vimeo On Demand page? #

Shoot us a note! We’ll help you get rid of it.

If I add one of my existing videos to a VOD page, what will change? #

Adding an existing video to a VOD page means the video is no longer available to be viewed for free. Its video page will be accessible only to you, meaning all the likes and comments it received previously will be hidden from the world. However, your VOD page will start gathering likes and reviews of its own!

Can I customize my Vimeo On Demand page? #

Of course! Head to the “Appearance” tab in your VOD page settings to select your theme and choose a color scheme to match your video. From here, you can also upload a background image, if you’d like.

Does the "Buy All" option give viewers access to videos added after their purchase? #
If you add a "Buy All" option to your VOD page, it gives buyers access to any videos you've added to the VOD page as well as any additional videos you add during the specified viewing period.

Where do I see Stats for my On Demand videos? #

You've got options! Head to the Stats sidebar on your Feed to peep an overview of your numbers for the week, or get the juicy details by shimmying over to vimeo.com/stats.

Below your Weekly Overview section, you'll see your "On Demand Stats at a glance" section, providing a quick overview or recent performance. Dive deeper by clicking the "+ View your On Demand Stats" and "+ View your On Demand Dashboard" links.

Can I see Stats on videos I've removed from my Vimeo On Demand pages? #
When you delete a VOD work or remove a work from your VOD page, you will see a line item on your VOD Stats pages for "Purchases of removed videos." Here you can see the total number of plays, purchases, and revenue associated with all videos that have been removed from that VOD page.

Why do my Vimeo On Demand Stats show more Loads and Plays than Purchases? #

Don't worry, this is normal! When a viewer purchases your work, they are able to watch your video as many times as they like during the viewing period that you have specified. During the viewing period, some folks may refresh the page, or choose to revisit it later.

Each time a viewer revisits or refreshes one of your Vimeo On Demand pages, another Load is counted in your Stats because the video player is re-loaded on the page. Whenever a viewer clicks the play button, whether it is to rewatch the video entirely or simply revisit a certain part that they particularly like, another Play is counted.

How do I find videos available for purchase on Vimeo? #

You can find most of the videos available through Vimeo On Demand (VOD) at vimeo.com/ondemand.

Click on any title to read a full description, watch a trailer, and purchase.

You can watch your purchased video right away or anytime within the specified viewing period. Simply log in to Vimeo and find the video in the VOD tab on your Feed.

How do I watch the Vimeo On Demand videos I purchased? #

All Vimeo on Demand (VOD) videos you purchased will appear under the both the Watch Later and VOD tabs of your Feed. Simply log in to your account and then chose one of those options.

Click the play button to watch the video instantly within your feed, or click the video title to watch it on its own page. Click the icon in the lower right corner of the player to watch the video in full-screen.

You can also watch the videos on your smartphone, TV, and other connected devices. (More on that below!)

Can I watch the Vimeo on Demand videos on my smartphone, TV, and other devices? #

Vimeo on Demand (VOD) videos can be watched on almost any device or app that gives you full access to your Watch Later list. This includes all of the Vimeo apps and connected devices mentioned on Vimeo Everywhere, with the exception of Android and Windows Phone devices. (We'll soon support those platforms as well!)

Simply log in to your Vimeo account, navigate to the Watch Later section, and locate the VOD video you purchased.

Why isn't this Vimeo On Demand video available in my region? #

Some videos may be have different distribution agreements for different global regions. For this reason, some of the videos on vimeo.com/ondemand are only available for purchase in certain countries.

If the video you want to watch isn't currently available in your region, you're welcome to reach out to the creator for more information. They may be able to tell you where you can watch the video in your country.

If I "Buy All" the episodes in a VOD series, will I be able to watch videos that get added after my purchase? #
When you select the "Buy All" option, you're buying access to any videos that have already been added to the VOD page, as well as any additional videos that are added during your viewing period.

If I "Buy All" the episodes in a VOD series, will I be notified when new videos are added? #
We don't currently have automated notifications in place for new episodes, but this is a feature we'll be adding soon!

Why did my Vimeo On Demand review get deleted? #

Reviews are a way for members who have watched a particular Vimeo On Demand work to share their honest opinions in a respectful manner.

Reviews cannot be deleted by the VOD creator, but they may be deleted by a Vimeo moderator if they:

  • Don't pertain to the work itself (e.g., "I'm upset that this video isn't available in my region")
  • Don't follow the Community Guidelines (e.g., "You suck!")
  • Are promotional or off-topic (e.g., "Cool vid. PS: Check out my website!")

What is the Vimeo mobile site? #

The Vimeo mobile site enables you to enjoy Vimeo on — you guessed it — your mobile devices. To use it, just point your Internet thingies and Palm Pilots to vimeo.com/m

What can I do on the Vimeo mobile site? #

You can like videos, comment on videos, follow other members, and upload videos, just like on the desktop site. You can also play from your Watch Later list, edit video Settings, and share videos via email and social networks.

For anything else (Groups, Channels, Widgets, Portfolios, etc.), you'll need to access the desktop version of the Vimeo.

Which platforms and devices is the mobile site compatible with? #

You can access the mobile site when using iPhone, iPod Touch, and many Android devices. Windows Phone compatibility is coming soon!

Does the mobile site work on tablets? #

Nope! Tablets use the desktop version of Vimeo.

My videos won't load on the mobile site. What gives? #

Not all videos can be played on mobile devices. You'll need a Plus or PRO account to create mobile-compatible versions of your videos.

How do I view the desktop version of Vimeo on my mobile device? #

While on the mobile site, you can switch to the desktop version of Vimeo by tapping the menu button in the top right corner and selecting "Desktop."

The desktop version of Vimeo is loading on my mobile device. How do I switch to the mobile site? #

Scroll to the bottom of any page and tap on "Mobile Version." Some pages, like Groups and PRO Portfolios, don't have mobile versions yet.

Please also note that the mobile site is not currently compatible with Windows Phones, but we're working on it! For the time being, Windows Phones will load the desktop version of Vimeo.

I created a mobile version of my video. Why isn't it playing on my mobile device? #

Some devices can play videos without a mobile version, but to be sure that everyone (including you!) can watch your video:

  • Make sure you have created mobile versions.
  • Confirm that you have installed the latest version of iOS, Android, or other mobile operating system.

  • Check that your mobile browsers are up-to-date.

Some mobile browsers have a preference that allows you to load the desktop version of websites instead of the mobile version. To ensure that you can access the mobile versions of your videos (both embedded videos and on-site), make sure your browser's preferences are set to load the mobile versions of the websites you visit. The easiest way to check this is to type in vimeo.com/m — if the desktop site loads, check your browser preferences for a "Request Desktop Site" setting.
