Food delivery services provide convenience for students

The delivery service in Denton has been growing, as more businesses have opened offering students a chance to have food from restaurants all across Denton delivered straight to their door.

For a small delivery fee, this can benefit many students who don’t have access to transportation or may not be in proper condition to drive to these restaurants.

The oldest and most successful business so far has been Entrees Denton, but another two businesses started up a few weeks ago, Eat Greedi and Deliver Me Denton.

Entrees Denton

The key to Entrees Denton’s success has been its ability to deliver from restaurants that don’t provide the service themselves, Entrees Denton owner and operator Jon Holliman said.

Entrees Denton provides food delivery from many restaurants around Denton, such as Chili’s, Fuddruckers and Fuzzy’s Taco Shop. It opened in 2004 and also delivers to Corinth and Lake Dallas.

Approximately 30 percent of Entrees Denton’s customer base is UNT students, Holliman said. They don’t have any contract deals with the restaurants they deliver from. All agreements are by handshake.

Eat Greedi

Eat Greedi opened just a few weeks ago and has the distinction of being run by a UNT student. Business senior Dominique Bookman started the business along with his partner Nyalls Carlton. Eat Greedi offers the option of ordering specific food items from several restaurants for a single order.

“We offer the customers a variety of restaurants,” Bookman said. “Our goal is to be delivering from every restaurant in Denton.”

Bookman credits the success so far to Eat Greedi’s excellent service.

“Most customers say we have the best service,” Bookman said.

Eat Greedi conducts its business with the restaurants it delivers from through contracts, offering a small commission to them for their service. UNT students play a large role in the business’ success, as around 85 percent of its customers are college students, Bookman said.

Deliver Me Denton

For the late-night crowd and those who aren’t in the proper condition to drive, Deliver Me Denton offers several different fast food restaurants for its customers to select from. For those who have always wanted a Big Mac from McDonald’s and fries from Whataburger and maybe something from Taco Bell as well, Deliver Me Denton makes that possible.

Max Eckert opened Deliver Me Denton a little less than a month ago. Currently, the business is only run by Eckert, with his friend C.J. Gonzalez helping with deliveries, and Eckert’s girlfriend Rachel Bailey acting as a receptionist.

Eckert’s service is only open on Friday and Saturday nights. This skews customer base, which is comprised almost entirely of UNT students, Eckert said.

“We focus on restaurants that are going to be open late,” he said. “There’s no other delivery service that runs this late on weekends.”

Deliver Me Denton focuses on getting the food and delivering it without interaction with the owners. Eckert said he would like to eventually expand the business and hire more drivers.
