Aaron Isherwood is the coordinating attorney for the Environmental Law Program. His responsibilities include helping chapters and other Club entities obtain approval for proposed litigation. He graduated from the University of Chicago and the University of Oregon School of Law. After graduating from college, Aaron spent a summer on the "slime line" in an Alaskan cannery, and eventually landed at Greenpeace in Chicago, where he worked for over 3 years. Aaron decided to go to law school when he learned from a prominent forest activist that court injunctions have saved more ancient forests than tree spikes. Before joining the Sierra Club as an associate attorney in 1999, Aaron clerked for the honorable Robert Durham of the Oregon Supreme Court, and also worked for the San Francisco-based law firm Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger.

Gloria Smith is a managing attorney currently advocating for renewable energy and coal plant retirement before public utility commissions and courts nationwide. Gloria received her BA in environmental science at the University of California, Santa Barbara and her JD and certificate in environmental law at Lewis and Clark College of Law in Portland, Oregon. Before joining the Sierra Club, Gloria worked for four years in the Department of Interior's solicitor's office in Washington, D.C. where she represented the Fish and Wildlife Service and National Park Service before FERC. In 2001, she found herself a very reluctant participant in Dick Cheney's energy task force, and knew it was time to return to the West and make amends. Gloria spent several years prior to joining the Club honing her trial skills at a plaintiffs' litigation firm in Burlingame, CA. Recently, Gloria switched from backpacking to whitewater boating on grounds that the latter offers more expansive food and drink options without compromising wilderness and wildlife opportunities.

Joshua Stebbins is the managing attorney in the Washington DC Office. He has practiced environmental law at Meyer Glitzenstein & Crystal and previously at Wilmer Hale. He graduated magna cum laude, Order of the Coif from New York University School of law, and clerked for the Hon. Joseph. A. DiClerico of the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Johns Hopkins University. In his spare time Josh enjoys hiking, garlic, and mostly being a dad.

Kristin Henry is a senior attorney currently advocating for coal-fired power plant retirements and increased renewable energy and energy efficiency in the central part of the United States. Kristin has led successful actions to block regulations promulgated under the Bush Administration’s healthy forest initiative, to prevent the construction of new coal-fired power plants, such as the Taylorville Energy Center, and to retire aging coal-fired power plants that harm public health and the environment, such as the Big Sandy power plant in Kentucky. Her current docket focuses on bringing lawsuits that force utilities to internalize the true societal costs of burning coal. Kristin graduated from Boston University and received her law degree from Golden Gate University School of Law. Kristin lives in San Francisco with her husband and two boys and enjoys being known as one of the few environmentalists who would never be caught wearing Birkenstocks.

Andrea Issod spent two years at the Sierra Club as an environmental law fellow and returned to the Club in June 2008 as a staff attorney. Following graduation from UC Berkeley School of Law in 2003, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Ecology Law Quarterly, Andrea clerked for the Honorable Gary L. Taylor, United States District Judge for the Central District of California. She also spent a year and a half litigating large tort cases involving groundwater contamination at a small plaintiff's firm. Andrea obtained her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering, but found herself significantly more interested in her environmental law and policy electives. During the summer after her junior year, she gave campfire talks and manned the visitor center at the Kaibab National Forest on North Rim of the Grand Canyon and confirmed her desire to pursue a career in environmental protection. Now that there is one in the White House, Andrea is prouder than ever to say she was also a community organizer in Camden, NJ with the goal of empowering communities to improve urban water quality.

Casey advocates for renewable energy and energy efficiency throughout the central region of the country, and works on U.S. EPA rulemakings including the effluent limitation guidelines for coal plants and the Clean Power Plan. During her first few years at Sierra Club, she handled litigation involving coal-fired power plant in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Minnesota. Before she joined Sierra Club in 2011, Casey was a fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council, representing endangered fish in California rivers, and at Altshuler Berzon LLP, working on labor union, low-wage employment, and civil rights litigation.
Casey received her JD from the University of California, Berkeley in 2007, where she was the Editor-in-Chief of Ecology Law Quarterly and worked with Communities for a Better Environment and Shute, Mihaly & Weinberger. Following law school, she clerked for Judge James Parker in the District of New Mexico, and Judge Diana Murphy on the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. Casey received her BA from Rice University in biology and public policy and then worked as an environmental policy consultant in Cambridge, MA. Outside of work, she enjoys cycling, cooking, and everything to do with mountains.

Doug earned his B.A. from the University of Colorado at Boulder and his J.D. from Vermont Law School, and clerked for the Honorable Jane Tidball of the Colorado District Court. During law school, he worked at the Environmental and Natural Resources Law Clinic and the Vermont Natural Resources Council, and spent a summer in rural El Salvador helping to challenge a proposed gold mine in the country's most important watershed. Aside from his work at the Club, Doug's all-time favorite job was a four-year stint as a ferry boat captain on Jenny Lake in Grand Teton National Park. Doug now works in the Boulder regional office, where he focuses on litigation involving dirty fuels and resilient habitats.

Jessica focuses her work on mining, coal exports, and supporting rail infrastructure. She received her J.D. from the University of California Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall) where she was an editor of the Ecology Law Quarterly and the California Law Review. Jessica earned her B.A. from Carleton College where she focused on international relations and environmental studies. Following college, Jessica worked as a field organizer on Tim Johnson (D-SD)'s U.S. Senate race (a 524 vote victory!), was awarded a Fulbright fellowship to Peru to complete a project on public participation in making decisions about mining projects, and worked at the Federal Trade Commission. Before joining the Sierra Club, Jessica was an associate in the civil litigation group at Weil, Gotshal and Manges, clerked for Judge John Munter, and spent time during law school working for the Earthjustice International Program and Shute, Mihaly and Weinberger. During her free time, Jessica enjoys making up new recipes, traveling, hiking, and learning to garden.

Joshua D. Smith is a staff attorney currently advocating for clean energy and the retirement of coal-fired power plants. Prior to joining the Sierra club, Josh spent two and a half years working in Earthjustice's Florida office litigating issues related to water quality, public land use, clean energy, phosphate mining, and endangered species. Josh also served as a judicial law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge James A. Redden in Portland, Oregon after graduating from Lewis and Clark Law School. In his spare time, Josh enjoys cycling, tennis, playing guitar, and exploring all that the San Francisco Bay Area has to offer with his wife and his three young boys. He also enjoys day dreaming about sleeping in on Saturdays without being woken up at the bottom of a dog pile and travelling--and hopefully doing both at some point within the next ten years.

Peter Morgan joined the Sierra Club in September 2008 as an Environmental Law Fellow. Peter's work with the Club focuses on combatting the destructive practice of mountaintop removal coal mining. Peter received his JD from Stanford Law School, his MS from Stanford's Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources, and his BA from Middlebury College. Before coming to the Club, Peter completed a clerkship with Justice Walter Carpeneti of the Alaska Supreme Court. Peter has also worked for the Nature Conservancy, where he managed the Massachusetts Islands Program, and with the Natural Capital Project, a joint venture of TNC, the World Wildlife Fund, and Stanford. Peter enjoys running, cycling, hiking, cooking and exaggerating stories about his encounters with charismatic megafauna.

In October 2010, Zack Fabish joined the Sierra Club as a project attorney, focusing his efforts on coal retirement in the northeast. Before joining the Club, Zack did civil litigation work for a bay area law firm. Zack earned his BA from Whitman College, and his JD from Stanford Law School. In his spare time, Zack enjoys backpacking, glassblowing, and a small handful of other gerunds generally fitting into the larger category of "outdoors-y noncompetitive".

Andres joined the Sierra Club in 2013 as an associate attorney. He focuses his work primarily on advocating for strong national rules and regulations to combat air pollution and climate change. Andres received his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he served as a senior article editor for the Harvard Law and Policy Review. From 2010 to 2012, he was a Beagle Litigation Fellow at the Natural Resources Defense Council, and subsequently clerked for the Honorable Eric N. Vitaliano on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He is somewhat fanatical in his love for pub trivia, crossword puzzles, used bookstores, and curating his large collection of LPs and CDs.

Originally from Chicago, Elly moved to Northern California in 1999 to attend Stanford University. After earning a B.A. in Human Biology with a focus on environmental policy, she moved to San Francisco and worked as a Program Assistant at the Sierra Club Environmental Law Program. Inspired by the work there, she decided to attend law school. After earning a J.D. from Yale Law School, Elly worked as a litigation associate at Bingham McCutchen LLP in San Francisco. In 2012, she returned to the Sierra Club. Elly takes the Club's mission to heart: when not in the office working to protect the planet, she spends her time exploring and enjoying it.

Greg is an Associate Attorney at the Sierra Club.  Before coming to the Club, he clerked for the Honorable S. James Otero on the Central District of California, and served as Deputy Director of the Center for Climate Change Law at Columbia University.  Greg earned a joint bachelors degree in Evolutionary Biology and International Relations from UCLA, and a J.D. from Stanford Law School, where he served as editor-in-chief of the Stanford Journal of Law, Science, and Policy.  He also earned an M.S. in environment and resources from Stanford's School of Earth Sciences.  Greg has done his fair share of policy work focused on domestic and international climate/air regulations, but he is happy to have (re)joined the front lines of the environmental movement with the Sierra Club.  He is also happy to be back in the chilly-but-pleasant embrace of the San Francisco Bay area and its inexhaustible collection of bike lanes, hiking trails, and artisanal coffee shops.

Sunil is an Associate Attorney working to move the country Beyond Coal. Before joining the Sierra Club, Sunil was an associate at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati where he helped clean technology companies with their efforts to combat climate change. Sunil earned a B.S. in Biological Systems Engineering with minors in Environmental Engineering and Environmental Science & Policy from Clemson University. Prior to attending law school at the University of California, Berkeley, Sunil worked on environmental, civil rights, and civil liberties campaigns with Greenpeace and People For the American Way, among other organizations. On a typical Saturday, Sunil enjoys an incredibly short stroll on the beach, mostly to justify the consumption of an inordinate amount of greasy food, which subsequently elicits intense and emotional satisfaction (also, regret), followed by the most amazing nap the world has ever known.

Kathleen Krust is a paralegal at the Sierra Club Environmental Law Program. A native of New Orleans, Kathleen moved to San Francisco after graduating from U.C. Santa Barbara with a degree in Law and Society. She formerly worked as a paralegal in a San Francisco law firm before joining the Sierra Club in August 2001. When not doing her best to save the environment, Kathleen enjoys travel, soccer, hiking, and anything else that has to do with the outdoors.

Anthony graduated from Williams College in June 2012, where he studied Economics and Political Science, and concentrated in Environmental Studies. In 2010, Anthony received a fellowship from Williams to study the effects of climate change on subsistence-based communities in rural Alaska, which first piqued his interest in a career in public interest environmental law.  After graduating, Anthony headed south to Chilean Patagonia, where he taught English to middle school students with the United Nations Development Programme.  Anthony came to the Club after deciding to defer from Columbia Law School, where he hopes his legal education will allow him to continue pursuing his passion for environmental work.  In his free time, Anthony enjoys running in the Marin Headlands and San Francisco’s great parks, and sampling all of the amazing dim sum in the Richmond neighborhood.

Isabelle is the legal assistant in the Washington, DC office. She graduated from the George Washington University as a double major in International Affairs and Environmental Studies. During her time as an undergraduate, she served as the President of GW’s largest environmental student organization, Green GW, which fostered her love for environmental activism and organizing. Expanding on her campus involvement, she interned at the White House Office of Correspondence, Green America, Heal the Bay and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Isabelle originally developed an interest in environmental issues while growing up in Los Angeles, where she became increasingly concerned about air pollution, coastal water quality and environmental justice issues. In her free time, Isabelle enjoys cooking, swimming, hiking and traveling. Her proudest accomplishment to date at the Sierra Club is co-founding FABIO in the DC office.

Kadie is a recent graduate from the University of Michigan with an Environmental Science degree and specialization in Environmental Law & Policy. As a participant in the Graham Institute for Environmental Sustainability Undergraduate Scholars Program, Kadie spent a summer in Jackson Hole, Wyoming studying fossil fuel dependence and alternative energy solutions. She kept her distance from the moose. A summer internship at the Environmental Protection Unit of the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office further solidified Kadie’s passion for environmental law. Outside of work, Kadie enjoys cooking, Zumba, and learning to play the ukulele.
