Sara Afzal is ProPublica's Communications Assistant. She has been a freelance journalist since 2010, and her writing has been featured on Mashable, The Guardian, The Huffington Post, and more. She has a strong interest in U.S. foreign policy, human rights, social media activism, and Iranian culture and politics. She graduated in May 2014 with a dual master's degree in Journalism and Middle Eastern Studies from New York University.
