The nomination process

C-level executives should be the nominators for this prestigious award, however it is not required. Nominations are due on or before July 10.

Our categories include both large and small, public and private companies as well as not-for-profit organizations. You may nominate an individual director, a board committee or an entire board. The organizations must be based in North Texas, but individual directors do not have to live in the area. For the individual category, nominees should be neither employees nor majority shareholders of the company.

The following questions may be helpful as you consider nominations:

  • Did the nominee(s) lead the company/organization through a crisis?
  • Was there a successful succession at the top?
  • Were new, innovative compensation programs initiated?
  • Was there a compliance or key risk consideration?
  • Did the organization implement a major new strategy or complete a significant transaction?
  • Did the nominee provide key oversight of a major initiative?
  • Is there a director who is approaching retirement whom you would like to recognize for his or her leadership or body of service?

These are some of the areas you may wish to consider, but there may be others. All nominations are welcome, and the process is relatively simple.

After the nomination close date, the Dallas Business Journal and an independent panel of judges will select the honorees based on commitment to and impact on the boards they serve. Nominators will be contacted if their candidates are selected, and honorees will be announced prior to the event.

Program details

The 2015 Outstanding Directors will be honored at a special celebratory awards dinner on September 24, 2015. All Outstanding Director honorees and a C-level representative of the nominating company are invited to attend. Committee and full-board award winners must have at least some members attend.

Each of the honorees will be invited to a video and photo shoot to be used in the awards program and a special publication featured in a weekly edition of the Dallas Business Journal.
