Development Intern

 

Truthout seeks a Development Intern to assist our Development Director and Publisher in fundraising.  

 

In this 3 to 6 month paid internship position, you will learn non-profit fundraising techniques and strategies at a fast-paced online publication. The Development Intern will work 20 hours a week, Monday through Friday. This is a position with opportunity for growth and professional development, and comes with a stipend of $870 a month (in addition to an internet reimbursement and Truthout cell phone or phone reimbursement stipend).

 

This position would suit a college student or recent graduate with strong editing, writing and data management skills, a love of politics and an interest in online publishing and nonprofit fundraising.

 

This is a work-from-home position, and applicants are welcome from anywhere in the United States. People of color, women, queer and gender-nonconforming people are encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities:

 

Working alongside the Development Director, the successful candidate will participate in many aspects of Truthout’s fundraising activities, including assisting in grant research and grant writing, helping with email and social media fundraising campaigns to readers, maintaining donor databases and spreadsheets, and working on other development-related projects.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Dependability, enthusiasm and passion for Truthout’s work.

  • Ability to adapt and multi-task, working both independently and as part of a small team.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a very high level of detail.

  • Ability to complete tasks as assigned and meet deadlines.

  • Experience working with Excel and Google Docs.

  • Familiarity with broader non-profit fundraising landscape and/or broader independent media field.

  • Must have reliable access to internet during specified work hours.

Preferred:

 

  • Some experience working in nonprofit fundraising.

  • Knowledge of fundraising using social media or other use of social media to promote campaigns or causes.

  • An understanding of fundraising best practices.

  • Experience with a Customer Relationship Management tool such as Salsa.

  • Experience working with Content Management Systems such as Joomla!
