A flight from D/FW Airport to Australia had to land in Los Angeles this morning after a medical emergency on board.

Passengers on Qantas Flight QF8 were put up in a hotel after landing at LAX about 3 a.m. Dallas time, according to the Sydney Morning Herald. They will continue on to Sydney today and should arrive early Saturday.

Airport spokeswoman Nancy Castles says the Fire Department transported the sick passenger to a hospital for treatment. The nature of the illness was not disclosed.

“It could be anything from a bad stomach bug to a heart attack,” Civil Aviation Safety Authority spokesman Peter Gibson told the Sydney newspaper.

Passengers were scheduled to depart again for Australia at 11:05 p.m. Dallas time.

The flight from Dallas to Sydney is the longest route in the world, at 8,700 miles.
