TSA Pre Check center at D/FW Airport to move July 10

(Terry Maxon/Dallas Morning News)
This TSA Pre Check center inside security at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport is to be replaced next week.

We wrote on June 20 that the Transportation Security Administration would be relocating its Pre Check enrollment center to the non-secure side of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport in early July.

But we didn’t say exactly when, because we didn’t know because TSA officials didn’t know.

Now we know.

We dropped by the TSA center at the airport’s Terminal D on Tuesday afternoon, and were told the new center opens next week – Thursday, July 10.

In doing so, it’ll move from its present location near the Gates 22-23 security checkpoint to north of the Gate 30 checkpoint, north of the American Airlines ticket counters in that part of Terminal D.

At present, the center is located inside the secured area. That means someone has to be traveling that day with a boarding pass, or able to secure a gate pass to allow them through TSA security. There were snafus.

With the change, applicants for the Pre Check program can come to the airport and visit the center without going through a TSA security lane. That should make many people happy, just from the lesser hassle factor.

They’ll take walk-ins, but they advise and we advise applicants to apply on line and get an appointment date and time. A reader told us yesterday that the wait for an appointment was at least 45 days.
