US Airways Express plane nearly collided with a drone in Florida

A US Airways regional plane nearly collided with a drone nearĀ Tallahassee Regional Airport. in Florida in March, according to media reports.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the incident. USA Today also wrote about it.

Jim Williams, head of the Federal Aviation Administration ‘s unmanned aircraft office, told a conference that the pilot of a regional US Airways flight on March 22 saw a camouflage-painted drone fly so close “he was sure he had collided with it,” according to USA Today. An inspection of the plane after landing found no damage, it said.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines, the parent of US Airways, is investigating the incident of the US Airways Express plane, spokesman Matt Miller told me today.

“The safety of our passengers and crew are our top priority,” he said.
