What Is a Humbug?

In the grand scheme of Dallas’ holiday offerings, we have everything from big and bright lights to restaurant feasts with leftovers provided. But there are certain things that must be done on the annual: cruising Highland Park’s Christmas lights, visiting the ultimate natural Santa at NorthPark, visiting the Operation Kindness' Santa because — well, pets, and seeing the Dallas Theater Center take on Dickens. The actors of DTC don’t just get on the stage in this version of A Christmas Carol; they perform all around the audience. There’re elaborate special effects, including one festive element we’d never want to spoil for first-timers. And unlike the rather dour, classic films with George C. Scott and Alastair Sim, this live show offers more lively carols and choreography alongside the life lessons learned by Ebenezer Scrooge (played by Chamblee Ferguson). Experience the transformation of a man, and create a new tradition for the family, at the Wyly Theatre, 2400 Flora St, through December 27. Standard show times are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays, 8 p.m. Fridays, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturdays, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays. Check for special show times and darkened holidays online.
