Harvey E. Najim has agreed to contribute $100,000 to help support multiple area Teaching Gardens in 2015 throughThe Najim Family Foundation.

The American Heart Association will adopt gardens located at Pre K 4 SA–West Campus, Pre K 4 SA–East Campus and the San Antonio Food Bank to provide a robust teaching curriculum for family and kids of all ages to encourage better nutrition and healthy living.

Studies show that healthy behavior positively impacts learning. The goal of the American Heart Association's Teaching Garden program is to improve children's health.

Najim, president of the Najim Family Foundation, explaining his support for the gardens, said "the health of San Antonio's children is important to our city's future."

"Through this program, we want to inspire teachers, students and parents to live healthier lives, and let them know that it's feasible with planning and creativity," he added.

The Teaching Garden program was created using American Heart Association science and nutrition guidelines, coupled with information from gardening and education experts.
