Hertz plans to turn the former Capitol Aquarium store on 29th Street in Sacramento into a car rental car outlet, according to an application the company submitted to the city.
Hertz would occupy 3,250 square feet of the 7,656-square-foot building at 1920 29th St., and also add an exterior sign and make other improvements.
Outside, Hertz would re-stripe the parking lot for 10 to 15 rental vehicles, and rehab the inside for a counter, customer service area and restrooms. The business would not have any automotive repair work done on site for rental vehicles, according to the project narrative in the application.
Between inside and outside, Hertz will have about 20 vehicles for rent at the outlet.
The building is owned by Hong Quang Nguyen of the HQ Nguyen Dental Corporation, based in Citrus Heights. The project narrative notes Hertz will share the parking lot with an dental office that will occupy the remainder of the building, at the southern end.
Capitol Aquarium, originally opened in 1959, moved to the location at T and 29th streets in 1978. Citing a tough economy, the owners closed the store in 2011.
