A lot of swooshes ended up in shopping bags on Black Friday.

New data from SportScanInfo shows Nike and its Jordan brand racked up more than $725 million in U.S. footwear sales in November. Nike sales climbed nearly 9 percent compared with last year to $537 million. Jordan sales were up 33 percent to $188 million.

Germany-based Adidas, which has its North American headquarters in Portland, had $58 million in sales, 46 percent below last year's November sales.

East Coast rival Under Armour had $26 million in November footwear sales, a 53 percent jump.

SportScanInfo tracks sales at various U.S. retailers.

On the apparel side, Nike remained No. 1 with $325 million in sales, an 11 percent gain. Under Armour came in at No. 2 with $257 million, up 18 percent. Adidas ranked No. 4 (after The North Face) with $50 million in sales, a 17 percent decline.

Sterne Agee analyst Sam Poser said the data show a strong start to the holiday shopping season.

"Athletic footwear sales in November accelerated as the month progressed," Poser said in an analyst note. "The holiday launch schedule is strong and basketball sales will accelerate, boding well for fourth-quarter results."
