The Wittliff Collections reading room is located on the seventh floor of the Alkek Library on the campus of Texas State University-San Marcos. Research with the manuscript, photograph, and book and journal resources housed in the Wittliff Collections is open to the public and free of charge. All of the materials are non-circulating and must be used in the reading room during the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Mondays through Friday.

The Wittliff Collections houses an extensive collection of published works, archival collections, and photographs.

  • Published materials: Books, journals, CDs, and DVDs in the Wittliff Collections are cataloged with searchable records available in the Alkek Library’s online catalog.
  • Archival collections: Complete finding aids for the manuscript collections in the Southwestern Writers Collection are available online. For a list of collecting areas, click here.
  • Photographs: A list of the photographers whose works are represented in the Southwestern & Mexican Photography Collection is available online.

The Wittliff Collections staff is available to provide assistance and answer questions.
