Dozens of retailers in the South Street Headhouse District have decorated their windows to the Christmas nines in order to drive retail and holiday traffic. (See photo gallery.)

The display windows will be part of an annual competition called the Winter Wonderland Window Competition, and will include retailers and restaurants from South Street, Fabric Row, Queen Village and Society Hill.

"It's a way for our businesses to show off their products and personality," said Michael Harris, executive director of SSHD. "The majority of the businesses in the district are independently owned and operated, and each window reflects the personal touch of the business owner."

SSHD estimates thousands of visitors will visit the district to see the window displays and, as a result, stop into and shop in the stores.

"It has been a very successful business development strategy, and has gotten a lot of attention for existing businesses that have been around for decades as well as newly opened shops," Harris said.

SSHD has each window photographed and posted on its Facebook page for a fan favorite voting, which ends at 6 p.m. on Dec. 7. (Vote here.)
